Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone

Calvin Harris Im Not Alone listen

Calvin Harris’ new single, “I’m Not Alone” is truly fantastic! He’s really stepping away from his “Acceptible int he 80’s” on this album, and showing everyone that he can do more than what he’s already put out there. His last album was full of sweet, bubble gum dance grooves that put him on the map high enough to be able to drop stuff like this, and not be labeled a wannabe Tiesto or something 14 year old myspace boppers would be into (Basshunter). I’m sort of hoping that is the case with Sam Sparro.

This is a legit dance tune, albeit a lot different than his previous funky disco, but this is a song that anyone can get into. You don’t have to be an American Apparel’d hipster drunk out of your mind to get into this Calvin Harris track. Listen to it for yourself. Continue reading →

Calvin Harris – I’m Not Alone (Radio Rip)

Calvin Harris Im Not Alone (Radio Rip) listen

“I’m Not Alone” is Calvin Harris’ first single from his sophomore effort. Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1 show premiered it on Friday night. To be quite honest, this song is really fun. The sounds on it sound pretty damn cool and unique. Yeah, seriously.

Calvin Harris blogged about his first single on his Myspace Blog saying:

Obviously I hope you like it, it’s had some interesting reactions so far – a lot of them good, some of them bad!
For those hating, please be aware that what i’m trying to do is make memorable music, and given that i have already made songs that sound like Acceptable in the 80s and The Girls, and indeed ‘Dance Wiv Me’ it’s time to move on and keep it interesting, which involves taking risks, one of those risks being that perhaps nobody will like it…!
But i would much rather that be the case than i make some cut up distorted blog house tune, i think there is enough of that around at the moment.
So give it a chance won’t you?
Thanks
Calvin x

This is a very interesting direction he is going in. Download the Radio Rip below Continue reading →

No, seriously, check this out, this is what one of the ADN DJ’s told me in an email–

I guess what we’re going for is an independent, rough around the edges show (jn that we play whatever records we want, we’re hobbyist DJs, not pros), but one that doesn’t sound like it was recorded in a mate’s bedroom with a couple of crap mics. It’s professionally recorded here in London (we use a major London radio station’s studios) and we think we’re onto something good.

There are no ads and no restrictive playlists – most of the time you’ll hear indie, acoustic, electro and hip hop, although we do try and throw anything and everything into the mix. We also feature one unsigned act each week, with an accompanying interview.

It streams here: http://adn.webradioworld.com

The show streams on a constant loop and is fully licensed – it’s not downloadable, as that infringes on copyright laws. To find out more and see previous tracklists, check us out on facebook (search ‘ADN Project’) or at www.myspace.com/adnproject

Check out their latest episode’s tracklisting:
1. Chemical Brothers – Burst Generator
2. MGMT – Electric Feel (Justice Remix)

Late Half-Birthday

Late Half Birthday mp3

It has just occurred to me that last Wednesday was my half birthday. This is me kicking myself for wasting such great opportunities. I could’ve gone to Red Robbin and demanded a 50% discount on my meal, apposed to the free meal I’d get on my birthday. Or maybe an ice cream cone half-off, at least.

On a lighter note, PMA! has been shown some serious love from the Hype Machine. Twice this week has a track featured on this blog reached the No. 1 spot, putting the tally for No. 1’s from PMA! up to 6. Pretty sweet. Also a PMA! mention on BBC and New York Magazine made my day (week?). I’ve also a few tracks in my hands that have made my week, thank you elbo.ws!

The first one is pretty self-explanatory, Hot Chip and Diplo. Cue the ZOMG!!!!oneone!!!eleventyone!!!’s, no really, they’re in order. Maybe throw in a few OMGWTFBBQ!’s too. Don’t by shy, say it. This is Diplo. End. Of. Story. Mmkay?

Hot Chip – Shake A Fist (Diplo Remix) (YSI)

And here’s one that rocked my world earlier this summer. Courtesy of the magical Party Ben, here is one of the raddest mashups you will ever hear in your life. True story. Benny does a bang up job meshing one of the biggest songs of 2007 with one of everyones favorite 80’s kickback. You know what it is :)

Rihanna vs General Public – Tender Umbrella (YSI)

Calvin Harrris barely qualifies for my iPod (gr! my iPod Touch only holds 8GB –
thus, I’m effing selective), and ‘Merrymaking at My Place’ is one of those “I like it but I don’t at the same time” songs but this mix makes it lean towards the likable side of the spectrum. Just a bit. I could live with it being shorter though.

New Calvin Harris – ‘Colours’

New Calvin Harris Colours mp3

Calvin Harris has started to evolve into a sort of King Midas for the nu-rave generation. While he may look like he’s wandered in after a heavy night on the set of Skins and dress in enough lurid neon clothes to have Klaxons turning their noses up, this hasn’t prevented Kylie and Sophie Ellis-Bextor knocking down his door for a helping hand on their new records. The ginger ‘MySpace sensation’ appears to have his fingers in all the right pies at the moment. All he needs is for Madonna to come knocking and have Paris Hilton fawning over him and he’ll pretty much
have reached the pinnacle of modern celebrity. It’s curious then why Harris has suddenly decided to release new single ‘Colours’, which stutters and shunts its way along without ever greasing itself up into the frenzy that saw previous singles ‘Girls’ and ‘Acceptable in the ’80s’ ram-raid the charts. For a chap who lists the likes of David Bowie, Outkast and Funkadelic as influences, this single is surprisingly bland and predictable. It’s funkless, soulless and
lacking in panache and pizazz. Its synths sound like they’ve been dragged through a sewer and the bleeps and beats are straight out of a dodgy Amiga computer game. Maybe Harris needs to stop playing the good Samaritan for the pop community and start issuing some quality control
on his own work. (AF)
