I think it’s safe to say that one can’t properly critique/review an album without being familiar with the artist’s previous work (assuming they have any). So as I sit here with Common’s post-’94 discography stacked on my desk, I can’t help but feel disappointed by Universal Mind Control—his eighth LP released earlier this week. It’s not the kind of disappointment one gets from having high expectations, but one from having low expectations actually met. After Common released his 4th LP, Like Water for Chocolate, his style significantly changed. You could argue he became more “mainstream,” or go so far as to say he “sold out,” but it’s always easy for us reviewers to judge. After all, a brotha’s gotta eat, right?

Straight outta Common’s upcoming Universal Mind Control is this Kanye West collab, “Punch Drunk Love.” While “Punch Drunk Love” sounds like a fun cruising track — the absolute best part of it is that we have our old stuck up, confident Kanye back for about 4 minutes — even if its just a looped chorus hook.Â
But really, all this thrown up on a sick Neptunes beat? It’s hot.Â

2008’s album sales have been anything but great, despite this year’s big releases, like Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. But, as usual, the fourth quarter of the year is filled with some blockbuster gems. We’ve already seen what affect high-profile, old-school rockers like AC/DC (784,000 sold in first week) and Metallica (sold 490,000 in 3 days) had on the fourth-quarter album charts. It doesnt end there, with releases by Beyonce, The Killers, Kanye West, and Britney Spears this winter, we’re in for one hell of a finale for music in 2008.
Here’s a release guide for the fourth quarter most exciting albums. Continue reading →

I guess I caught on late with this one, but I just found it via elbo. Either way, I don’t think many of you have it, or even know if its existence (like me!), so enjoy! It’s pretty decent.
Kanye West – The Stalker Song (Never Lettin’ Go)
and here are some other random unreleased Kanye cuts.
Kanye West, Common & Lupe Fiasco – Southside
Kanye West & Lil Wayne – Breakin’ My Heart
Kanye West & Jay-Z – Never Leave Me Down

2007 was a great your for turntablist DJs, Diplo and Switch had a grand time with M.I.A., Timbaland was pop’s maestro for almost 2 years straight, James Murphy proved LCD Soundsystem was not a fluke & blew us all away, and then there’s A-Trak. You and 160,000 other people might have caught A-Trak nastiness on Kanye West’s set. Oh, you know, the part when Kanye just walked off the stage and let A-Trak take over? As cliché as it sounds, the crowd went wild! A-Trak is seriously one of the illest people in the game. He has some serious talent and he ain’t scared to flaunt it, some of the craziest remixes this year have been cooked up by A-Trak.
Simian Mobile Disco – Hustler (A-Trak Remix) (YSI)
Kanye West ft. Common – Get Em High (A-Trak Remix) (YSI)
Lil Wayne – Fireman So Cold (A-Trak Remix) (YSI)
UPDATE:
Since always the emirates airlines have offered cheap flights to new york. This is the reason why it is included in most of the travel deals along with cheap car rental and sometimes even travel trailer. Now even kingfisher airlines is following this suit.

This mixtape is in response to the “5 Pop Acts You Are Allowed To Like” post I made earlier this week. The post was well received and I had some requests of making a rap version of it. Instead of picking 5 Rap Acts those Pitchfork fanboys are allowed to like without ruining their indie cred, here’s a mixtape of some of the great rap artists of recent times. I enjoy rap music, it great chill, angry, and mind bending music — wrapped together with a bow (err chain?) on top.
On this mixtape, you will find some Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and others. What you WILL NOT find are those rap songs I like to call “ringtone rap”. “Ringtone crap”, rather. I’m talking about those extra catchy songs that seem to be made for simple minded people with a short attention span. You know and loath them alright; “Party Like A Rock Star”, “Crank That”, “Laffy Taffy”, “This Is Why I’m Hot”, ring any bells?
Mhm.
Now before we start this, I already admit this may be Kanye West beefed because, well I’m a hopeless Kanye sheeple, but you know what? Fuck Off ![]()

Britney Spears has given horny nerds and teeny-bopers’ a challenge to flood Google and Perez Hilton alike. Britney Spears and/or her team of promoters chose Labor Day Weekend to “accidentally” leak her Comeback album’s 1st single “Gimme More”, and over the passed couple of days, 5 new songs (not all to be included in her new album) leaked.
“Why do we still care so much about Britney Spears? Not sure. We’re drawn to the crazy! And there’s no one quite like her.”
-Perez
Only one of the five leaked tracks is officially going to be included to her new album, the rest are promotional demos recording in 2005 and were reportedly leaked by Jive Records, oh and we can expect 18 more demos to become available throughout the next few weeks, SOURCE. FUCKING SHOCKING isn’t it?! The collection of tracks leaked definitely have a electro-rave quality to them (MP3: Everybody, Been A While, Your…), while the rest remind me of something that didn’t make it onto Shock Value. The best track of the bunch is without a doubt, Everybody. The predominately bubbly-electric sounding track pulls a Kanye and experly samples Eurythmics classic “Sweet Dreams”. Decidedly, “Everybody” is pretty good, and it doesn’t need a “…for Britney” suffix. I do smell 2nd single.
Been A While, and Your… are cute and fun, but they’re no “Toxic” or “Gimme More” for that matter. One thing I do love about Spears is the fact that I can’t say her shit sounds like everything else. If Britney Spears can do something right, it is sounding unique (not sure if thats a good thing or not). From what I’ve heard so far, Britney’s comeback is going to be a riot! The still untitled comeback album will officially hit stores November 12th worldwide, but Americans and their brothers to the North will have to wait until the next day to purchase the album. For a fun list of recent Britney leaks, check out the Hype Machine. In other Britney news, MTV reports that Britney will indeed open up this year’s VMAs, and they promise a disappointment-free performance — so what? Is she going to please the haters too, well then I guess its safe to say, “Watch Britney perform ‘Gimme More’ perfectly while embarrassing herself for the cameras”!

Hey sorry for the massive lack of updates! School, work, and life in general have gotten in the way, I don’t expect this to change anytime soon. Huge shout out to the people who keep on coming back! Here is a large update of Pretty Much Amazing’s favorite tracks released/ leaked over the passed few weeks.

GIMME MORE – Britney Spears is back y’all! It ain’t the best track ever but FUCK — ITS BRITNEY BITCH! I must’ve played it 200 times already! I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about Ms. Spears’ comeback, but now I see that there is hope. If Britney can pull this off, maybe I can finally cure World Hunger or AIDS. Hmm… Anyway, another track off of Spears’ comeback has leaked (Cold As Fire), no recommendations there folks, stick to ‘Gimme More’. UPDATE: Hot fake ‘Gimme More’ Remix featuring T.I. available here.

PMA has been gushing about KANYE WEST > 50 CENT for a while, and I still believe Kanye kicks ass. Make sure to grab a copy of Graduation September 11th.
