GIVEAWAY: ZARIF @ THE LAST DAYS OF DECADENCE 4/08

Zarif

Bringing together the classic songwriting of Stevie Wonder with the 80s pop sensibilities of Cyndi Lauper, North London based singer songwriter Zarif creates her own brand of quirky retro-tinged soul. After being featured on hip-hop production duo The Nextmen’s critically acclaimed album, “This Was Supposed To Be The Future” including the single, “Something Got You,” Zarif had a busy 2008 touring with the Nextmen, playing countless festivals like Glastonbury and Bestival, and supporting Taio Cruz on his UK tour. Billboard has called her “Winehouse with Madonna’s pop flair,” and The Guardian says she’s “the next big thing in British soul.” She even caught the attention of the Grammy award winning John Legend, who she performed a duet with at this year’s Tommy Hilfiger Sessions. Lykke Li – First Unitarian Church – January 30th, 2009

Lykke Li First Unitarian Church January 30th, 2009 live performances

While I haven’t been to many concerts, I never thought I’d be standing in a church or sitting in a pew listening to a girl singing about she keeps her legs apart. Nor did I think I’d be watching an artist sing or dance by candlelight. I also never thought I’d hear a Swedish singer rapping to Lil’ Wayne’s “A Milli.” Lykke Li performed last Friday at the First Unitarian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and did the unexpected. When I first found Lykke, I thought she was a little weird and too “adult contemporary” for me to enjoy. After buying (yes, actually purchasing) Youth Novels at Best Buy on a whim, I fell in love. The album is full of amazing sounds and lyrics, leaving me wondering why she didn’t receive album of the year.

If you want the tickets, subscribe, email me, hope for the best. (Yes, in that order!)

My good friend Austin is hooking me up with 6 tickets (4 will be given out) for Chromeo’s show in LA @ El Rey (5515 Wilshire Blvd.). Door opens 7PM.

Watch Kate Nash and Lupe Fiasco Tonight! 01/14 mp3

ATTN: LA Readers! I have extra 5 tickets in my hands right now. 3 will let you in to see the glorious and beautiful Kate Nash, and the other 2 will allow you to hip(ster) hop away with Lupe Fiasco. Both shows start at 7pm. Kate is playing at the Troubadour in West Hollywood. Lupe is playing at the House of Blues in Anaheim. If you’re still clueless as to my predicament, look at this and this. Yes, the venues are a good 1+ hour car drive apart. So if you want the tickets, RSVP with your request (email me, genius) and meet me at this Starbucks at 5pm sharp. I will wait for 30 minutes, then leave to see Miss Nash down the street. I know, sounds like a pain, but I promise, it will be worth it. Please make sure you follow my rules and subscribe to PMA before you even think of asking me for tickets. Fair trade, I think.

Now hurry, email me.

MP3s

Win a Pair of Tix to See Kate Nash in NYC!

Win a Pair of Tix to See Kate Nash in NYC! mp3

Imagine my surprise when I checked my email earlier today. Thanks to a couple of contacts, I have 2 tickets to see Kate Nash live at the Bowery Room in New York January 9th.

Since I don’t live in New York, I saw this an a perfect opportunity to do a giveaway type thing. Since it’s so close to Christmas, my brain is fried and my creative chords are shot, so to win the tickets, just email me telling my why your 2008 will be meaningless without the chance to see the fabulous Kate Nash. Send your sob stories to pma(dot)editor(at)gmail(dot)com. Before you even think of emailing me, you MUST subscribe to PMA’s feed. That’s the catch, I know, its shameless, but I don’t really care!

Contest ends Jan. 5
