823KEYPROJECT: A Community of Reverie

823KEYPROJECT: A Community of Reverie feature
Dear Pretty Much Amazing readers: A message from The Confluence. Read on for a remix goodie-bag.

Every now and then, out of pure frustration and exhaustion comes an idea that is unique and inspiring. I’d like to introduce you to the lovely 823KEYPROJECT. It is pretty simple, after giving a friend of his who was having a tough time a skeleton key necklace he made, offering the well known catch phrase, “when one door closes, another opens,” Trevor Hubbard thought everyone could use a key. 823KEYPROJECT launched two weeks later as a way for 823 people to purchase vintage, one of a kind, skeleton key neckpieces. To date, the 823keyproject has done nothing but spread the word to friends and watch it grow. 259 keys have been sold in 8 countries in just about 5 months.

The money goes into a fund and when the last key is sold, the fund is unlocked and up to $25,000 in grant money is available for artists to apply. Applying artists can be from any medium, discipline, background. This process will be repeated 26 times or as many letters there are in the alphabet. When Trevor began the project his goal was to bring together 823 people and the work of many enterprising artists of a common pulse, a thread that links the contribution and purchases of many to the creation of one vision for a better world and community through almost any medium or vision.

This is how it breaks down. Continue reading →

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 6

Gossip Girl beats 90210 once again and I’m quickly running out of reasons to keep this thing going.

Gossip Girl has displayed a menagerie of great music in the past — however, New Haven Can Wait’s musical playlist feels a little dull. One beautiful gem almost smothered by the selection of lackluster songs, is the Section Quartet’s arrangement of my favorite Muse song, “Time Is Running Out.”

This song alone is worth voting for Gossip Girl.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 6 listen

Gossip Girl – New Haven Can Wait (aired 10-13-2008 to 3.34 million viewers)
The Submarines – The Wake Up Song
The Friendly Fires – White Diamonds
The Duke Spirit – Wooden Heart
The Section Quartet – Time Is Running Out [if you have the mp3 PLEASE share. I want this so bad]
(Muse – Time Is Running Out)
Jamie Blake – Dragstrip Girl (who? what? where? sorry, I could not find an mp3 to share)

90210 has always done great with mixing up the Top 40 sounds (P!nk) while still keeping its indie-cred. 90210 has also pushed a couple of artists I’ve never listed to before (Senor Happy, Natalie Walker). A well rounded list, as per usual. Maybe this time, 90210′ comprehensiveness is enough to overthrow Gossip Girl’s undying charisma.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 6 listen

90210 – Model Behavior (aired 09-30-2008 to 4.9 million viewers)
N.E.R.D. – Windows
Mates of State – Now
P!nk – So What
CSS – Reggae All Night
Senor Happy – Got You
Keane – Spiraling
Jem -Got It Good
Natalie Walker – With You

New Keane – The Lovers Are Losing (CSS Remix)

New Keane The Lovers Are Losing (CSS Remix) mp3Now that CSS are done remixing themselves, they’ve decided to hit Keane’s underwhelming “The Lovers Are Losing” and transformed it to something that that deserves my otherworldly fascination. I really didn’t like Keane’s latest effort (I gave them three shots to grow on me — FAIL!) but this is just a breathe of fresh air.

Another cool tid bit, CSS came to the realization that their remixes make the regular blog rounds, so they decided to give then one away, officially.

New CSS – Beautiful Song (CSS Remix)

New CSS Beautiful Song (CSS Remix) mp3 This remix was “exclusively” available at Let’s Glow. Nothing is really exclusive on the internet, right? Anyway, Let’s Glow is written completely in Portugeuse so I had no clue what they were saying but thanks to Google’s Translate tool, I was enlightened a bit. Instead of written something up myself, I figured it would be fun to post Google’s translation. It’s quite humorous.

Look at the CSS giving the air of grace here again! Now with a novelty that has left many fans and happy! The band most capable of Brazil out there (yes, it is my opinion and does not complain) came back with remixes of your page on MySpace. “He? How so? “.

For those who do not know, the band had a page of remixes that has been excluded because, supposedly, they had no rights over their own remixes (which were all remixes’ contract ‘). But now we are back in the air and there is a self-remix for the song “Beautiful Song,” which you can find for download only here in Let’s Glow.

PMA College Music Project: NYU – New York City, New York

PMA College Music Project: NYU New York City, New York college music project

Earlier this week I ran an idea passed everyone. To my endless gratitude and surprise, I received many submissions for the PMA College Music Project! Three from students who live or dwell with NYU students and have embraced the 10 quintessential NYU dorm party songs many times. I really hope more college students continue to email me with their School’s Top 10 songs played around the halls and at parties. I really want to keep this weekly feature up. Remember, emailing me makes you the Office PMA Ambassador of your respective school (doesn’t that sound fancy)!

Without further ado, here is NYU’s Top 10 Songs (According to 3 entries)

Bloc Party – Mercury
The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name
CSS – Left Behind
The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go
MGMT – Electric Feel
Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes
Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down
Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
The Ting Tings – Great DJ
Madonna – Give It 2 Me

Download: PMA College Music Project: NYU [60 MB .zip]

Does anyone else think NYU is totally obsessed with The Ting Tings? But we all know there’s nothing wrong with that. I also love the presence of the Best Worst Song of 2008 (”I Kissed a Girl”) and Madonna’s best song since she was a cowboy (”Give It 2 Me”).

New CSS – Move (Cut Copy Remix)

CSS
This wonderful Cut Copy remix just surfaced early this morning, this time the Aussie electro-kings took on “Move,” a highly underrated track off CSS’ sophomore slump album, Donkey. Like I’ve said before, Cut Copy have a knack of transforming mediocre subjects into highly dancable joints.

When Coffee Dreams, It Dreams of Chocolate.

When Coffee Dreams, It Dreams of Chocolate. listen

So I just forced to got around to trying out this Hershey’s and Starbucks love child at work this morning… and they’re DAMN GOOD. It’s like dramatic good, almost over-dramatically good. You know that kind of good that’s sort of pretentious-bitchy, but you love it anyway? Yeah that kind. My personal favorite is the Mocha Dark Chocolate bar, but the Milk Chocolate Chai Truffle is also delicious. They also have chocolate covered coffee beans, stay away… they’re kinda weird. Just weird. It may be that I’m sort of a chocolate snob and I harp on milk chocolate a lot (unless its blended with chai, of course).

I strongly suggest you grab yourself a box of these goodies… oh and they’re also a great gift!

The reason I brought them up in the first place was that I love listening to music while devouring (yes, devouring) goodies. I kind of hand-picked the next few tracks (with help of the Hype Machine) to help savor my chocolate, and I was bored.

Beck – Orphans
Bloc Party – Mercury (hey, it’s a grower)
Black Kids – Partie Traumatic
CSS – Move
The Kooks – One Last Time

Thom York vs Trent Reznor: Chi-Town Take Over

Radiohead vs Nine Inch Nails

Yesterday, Chicago Sun-Times blogger, Jim DeRogatis leaked the entire lineup for what looks like 2008’s best summer music festival, Lollapalooza. The first four artists on the roster get your blood pumping, but two in particular caught my attention. Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails.

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have been taking turns giving the music industry the big finger. The Brits made headlines last October for releasingIn Rainbows without the control support of a record label, and Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails followed suit with last month’sGhosts I-IV.

The two bands have also been busy one-upping each other with their innovative promotion strategies. Life was happy having two brilliant bands continuously providing for innovative and buzzworthy ways to distribute digital media, simultaneously help digging record labels’ graves. That is, until Reznor accused Radiohead of ripping their fans off by selling them low-quality files.

Wired has come up with a 10 round face-off between the bands, and looking at the people’s votes, it seems Nine Inch Nails has got Radiohead beat in terms of innovation. Now we pose this question, who will take over Chi-Town this first week of August (Aug 1-3)?

The official lineup is found below
