This week’s Q&A Friday is brought to you by Starbucks Chocolate! If you answer the questsion, you are entering yourself to win a Starbucks Chocolate Gift Package! Remember to enter your name and email address in the given fields.

2008’s album sales have been anything but great, despite this year’s big releases, like Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. But, as usual, the fourth quarter of the year is filled with some blockbuster gems. We’ve already seen what affect high-profile, old-school rockers like AC/DC (784,000 sold in first week) and Metallica (sold 490,000 in 3 days) had on the fourth-quarter album charts. It doesnt end there, with releases by Beyonce, The Killers, Kanye West, and Britney Spears this winter, we’re in for one hell of a finale for music in 2008.

Here’s a release guide for the fourth quarter most exciting albums. Continue reading →

New David Cook – Light On

New David Cook Light On listen

David Cook’s first single, “Light On” hit iTunes this morning. I guess I failed to catch this one when AOL Music supposedly premiered it. David Cook will probably always be in the shadow of the American Idol 7 runner-up — little David Archuleta — because, quite frankly, Archuleta’s music is a lot more marketable. Whether or not Archuleta’s music is better or not is still debatable.

But seriously, how terrible is David Archuleta’s “Crush”? How terrible is David Cook’s “Light On”? Not even Rob Cavallo’s GRAMMY-winning talent and David Cook’s talent ability to make soccer moms vote could have saved this Daughtry x Nickelback infused ballad. Undoubtedly, “Light On” will see the same radio success “Time of My Life” saw. At writing time, “Light On” is sitting at No. 33 on iTunes Top 100 Songs chart — making its digital debut today. I won’t be surprised if this song is in the Top 10 my tomorrow morning… hell, by tonight.

David Archuleta First Single – Crush | Be Afraid David Cook

David Archuleta First Single Crush | Be Afraid David Cook listen
Lets revive that old David vs David showdown we were all into last May.

American Idol runner-up, David Archuleta, visited New York’s z100 to premier his fantastic first single “Crush”, does this mean his album will be released before David Cook’s? Well given that Idol/Jive is letting him promote it already seems to indicate that he will.

While David Archuleta is releasing what can definitely be this fall’s biggest hit, Cook is ready at work with songwriters from Collective Soul and Our Lady Peace to beef up his inaugural album. Judging by Cook’s semi-omnipresent Idol single “The Time of You Life” and by listening to Archie’s “Crush”, it looks like Hot Adult Contemporary charts are going to be Idoltastic again! Listen to David Archuleta’s first single below:

American Idol Top 12: Now I Start Watching

I have a dirty little secret. I like American Idol. Why? Well because I like talent, and the people on American Idol are usually talented. But after the first few seasons I got really annoyed during the first few weeks, so I made a promise to myself, I will only watch American Idol after the Top 12 have been announced. And that’s what I have been doing for the last 4 years or so.

So last night’s Top 12 Performances were nothing short of breath taking, for the most part. Some (stop to click the link) were freaky (click again), though. Here are my premature picks at the top 3.

David Archuleta. Is this a surprise to anyone? Even, I, who have been trying to stay away form AI till now, have heard of this kid. He is like the new Sanjaya, but with immense talent, boyish good looks that can make your grandmother blush, and the kid drips of charisma. Even though he messed up a bit last night, he was still killer. His voice is great, he dresses even better.

Amanda Overmyer. This nurse has the best voice in American Idol history, no doubt. The “bad girl” vibe is surrounding this songbird, reminiscent of Duffy or Amy Winehouse. We need a Wino in America guys! She’s it!

David Cook. Well look at this, another Daughtry. But this one sounds as if he might be more than a Nickelback clone. Listen to the MP3, its just perfect. An Alt. Rock interpretation of “Eleanor Rigby” — stupendous.

But when it comes down to it, who’s gonna win? David Archuleta. No doubt in my mind about that.
