Kid Cudi on LCD Soundsystem, Diplo on Groove Armada

Kid Cudi on LCD Soundsystem, Diplo on Groove Armada listen

Kid Cudi – Can I Be

So how cool is Kid Cudi, right? I’m sure he probably thinks he’s so indie right now. First he sampled Band of Horse’s “Funeral” on “The Prayer” and now he’s jumped on LCD Soundsystem’s nu-classic “Someone Great.” It makes me cringe to hear Cudi say “pop that pussy hole” over a song like “Someone Great” — couldn’t he find another song to sample? There are just some things you don’t mess with. Maybe next time he will talk about poppin’ pussyholes over a Radiohead song. Oh wait, that’s been done (although, with much more taste). “Can I Be” comes from Cudi’s upcoming mixtape, Back 2 the Basics. Listen to it below: Continue reading →

Diplo Remixes Britney Spears’ Circus

Diplo Remixes Britney Spears Circus mp3

Twice! Sort of.

His latest offering was anything but impressive, but with Britney’s quite fantastic “Circus,” Diplo has definitely re-exalted himself. Word around the rumor mill is that this is THE OFFICIAL remix of Britney’s explosive hit. Diplo adds a little grime to the slice of pop heaven to the point that if it weren’t for the sparse moments where he throws in Britney’s vocals,  it would almost be unrecognizable.

The first remix, “Diplo’s Alt Clown Remix” is the most accessible of the two, clocking in at 3:12, just like circus’ album version. The mix features some impressive drumloops, reminiscent of Britney’s criminally underrated “Toy Solider.” The instrumentals on here would have fit nicely in any of the M.I.A. albums (hey, you creative types, why don’t you find a suitable M.I.A. verse and prop it in there?).

The second and main remix, simply tagged as “Circus (Diplo Remix)” is, by far, my favorite. This is the only remix that even comes close to the original track — and at some points, I think it even surpasses the original. Believe it or not, this mix is a slowburner and the build up is phenomenal. Diplo, once again, drops some sexy drums here. BIG, sexy drums. This is one of 2009’s first great remixes. New MGMT – Time To Pretend (Diplo Remix)

New MGMT Time To Pretend (Diplo Remix) mp3[Trans Musicales]

This remix has been around for a while, but here it is, finally, in its mp3 glory. Sadly, it’s pretty damn awful. It makes sense that MGMT denied the remix — it reminds me of a bad rip off of Soulwax’s “Kids” remix. This is probably so upsetting because I actually like Diplo. A Diplo and MGMT combo should be stellar… this, definitely, is not. But anyway, the cat is out of the bag, so enjoy it if you do, or dislike it, whatever is fine with me. Continue reading →

New Kanye West – Sky High Mixtape

New Kanye West Sky High Mixtape mp3

I think I will always underestimate what kind of impact releasing a mixtape before an album drops will have on sales and general reception of the album. It can’t be too bad — Lil Wayne basically releases a few dozen of them before each of his records; and Kanye West is no stranger of mixtapes, either. Didn’t he release his Graduate mixtape a little bit before Graduation saw its release?

This Sky High mixtape, somewhat narrarated by DJ Benzi and Plain Pat, doesn’t really feature anything from Kanye West’s 808’s and Heartbreak (save from a “Love Lockdown” remix), but features some of the best Kanye remixes around. Every top-notch producer showed up for class today; we’ve got Diplo, A-Trak, Kickdrums, and Benzi in attendence. Man, even Kanye dropped the school-related puns. I just can’t let something die, huh?

Catch the mixtape and a few highlights below! Continue reading →

New Radiohead – Reckoner (Diplo in a Trainwreck Remix)

New Radiohead Reckoner (Diplo in a Trainwreck Remix) mp3

So this is Diplo’s second stab at Radiohead’s brilliant “Reckoner.” I’m just not feeling it guys. I wasn’t feeling it until the perfectly battered Thom Yorke vocals came into play. It only gets better from there. Catch it down there

‘R.I.P. Paper Planes’ – Yeah Right, Diplo.

R.I.P. Paper Planes Yeah Right, Diplo. listen

Over at Mad Decent, Diplo had this to say about a new “Paper Planes” copycat remix:

La Fonda – Paperplanes <—- Gross
It had a really good run, but it’s over now.

M.I.A. – Paper Planes (La Fonda remix)

Yes, this remix IS completely horrible and should have never been recorded, but I doubt “Paper Planes” is going anywhere. It’s still hot on iTunes — it’s currently sitting at #14 and it’s still in the Top 10 in the US. If this Jigga and M.I.A. joint (“Boys (remix)”) ever hits radio the way “Paper Planes” has, we’re going to listening to M.I.A. clear through 2009.

All this mainstream success has brought M.I.A. out of retirement; she is prepping to do a cheapo re-release of her sophomore album Kala fully-equipped with some high rolling bonus tracks.

But what can we expect from LP number three? More rappers? Of course. What about high profile rappers? I’m afraid so. It doesn’t have to be a bad thing — listen to this:

M.I.A. – Boyz (Jay-Z Remix)

Not bad right? I just hope not every track on LP3 will sound like that Timbaland collaboration.

New Radiohead – Reckoner (Diplo Remix) / (Ring Trick Mix)

New Radiohead Reckoner (Diplo Remix) / (Ring Trick Mix) listen
Did you know Radiohead have kicked off another remix competition? Well… they did. I love this sort of thing. For a couple reasons:

1. Our favorite DJs and producers (see: Holy Fuck, DIPLO) usually end up winning these contests.

2. We usually end discovering cool, new DJs, producers, and artists (see: Hipster Runoff).

Here, I have the audible proof of why these remix competitions are so damn great. For one, we have Diplo’s erratic remix of this In Rainbows favorite (falls under #1). I also have a copy of Ring Trick’s remix (and now we have #2). Both are dramatically different, but darn good. I thought I’d be partial to Diplo’s remix, but I am finding myself enjoying Ring Trick’s remix more. I guess you can make your own decision. Catch these remixes below. Continue reading →

New John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix)

New John Legend and Andre 3000 - Green Light (Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix)
Quite a while ago, I posted a hard-hitting MSTRKRFT remix of John Legend’s and Andre 3000’s fantasic “Green Light”. Since then many remixes have spawned up and made the usual rounds, but none have caused a commotion quite like Diplo only can. Last weekend, Diplo aired his new “Green Light” remixed (also know as the Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix) — it’s just as good as you’d expect a Diplo remix to be, especially after that Top Ranking much of amazing.

New Justice (ft. Daft Punk, Kanye West, Diplo, A-Trak) – Fortisphere (Immuzikation Blend)

New Justice (ft. Daft Punk, Kanye West, Diplo, A Trak) Fortisphere (Immuzikation Blend) listen

Pretty Much Amazing favorite Immuzikation is always hot on the trail of the freshest buzz around the blogs. He wasted no time blending and molding Justice’s superhyped “Planisphere” with some Daft Punk, KanYeezy, Diplo, and Ye’s bud A-Trak. This guy is one busy DJ — thats why we like him so much.

A pat in the back? No, this guy deserves a medal.
