Thom York vs Trent Reznor: Chi-Town Take Over

Radiohead vs Nine Inch Nails

Yesterday, Chicago Sun-Times blogger, Jim DeRogatis leaked the entire lineup for what looks like 2008’s best summer music festival, Lollapalooza. The first four artists on the roster get your blood pumping, but two in particular caught my attention. Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails.

Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails have been taking turns giving the music industry the big finger. The Brits made headlines last October for releasing In Rainbows without the control support of a record label, and Trent Reznor’s Nine Inch Nails followed suit with last month’s Ghosts I-IV.

The two bands have also been busy one-upping each other with their innovative promotion strategies. Life was happy having two brilliant bands continuously providing for innovative and buzzworthy ways to distribute digital media, simultaneously help digging record labels’ graves. That is, until Reznor accused Radiohead of ripping their fans off by selling them low-quality files.

Wired has come up with a 10 round face-off between the bands, and looking at the people’s votes, it seems Nine Inch Nails has got Radiohead beat in terms of innovation. Now we pose this question, who will take over Chi-Town this first week of August (Aug 1-3)?

The official lineup is found below

Pretty Much Amazing vs Elbo.ws

Rock The Vote

Before the blog-blockage of last weekend, I wrote up a PMA vs Elbo.ws vs Hype Machine post comparing the top artists of each respective party. That was fun and games, but I think it all really comes down to the songs. Its basically the meat between the two breads, if you ask me.

So lets get this cracking. Pretty Much Amazing’s Top Songs:
1. Radiohead – Bodysnatchers DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
2. Duffy – Ready For The Floor (Hot Chip cover)
3. Gnarls Barkley – Run DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
4. Portishead – Silence
5. MGMT – Time To Pretend
6. Does It Offend You, Yeah? – We Are Rockstars
7. Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
8. Vampire Weekend – A-Punk
9. Black Mountain – Tyrants
10. Radiohead – Electioneering

Elbo.ws Top Songs:
1. The Notwist – Good Lies DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
2. Tokyo Police Club – In A Cave
3. The Breeders – Bang On DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
4. Colin Meloy – We Both Go Down Together
5. Gutter Twins – Idle Hands
6. The Ruby Suns – Tane Mahuta
7. The OaKs – The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter DOWNLOAD | LISTEN
8. Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks – Cold Son
9. French Kicks – Abandon
10. Shearwater – Rooks

As I was writing this up, I got a brilliant idea. What about I make this into some sort of poll. Kind of like the Gossip Girl vs Chuck posts (that have somehow disappeared from my interests… for now). Alright good people, I want you to vote on music taste. Does elbo.ws (meaning the “music blog community” as a whole) have better taste than good ole Luis?

47 Best Songs of January 2008 best of 2008

Wow, the first month of 2008 is officially over. We survived it guys, give yourself a pat on the back. Now, I am looking forward to February and all, but I am kind of sad to see January leave. New Gnarls Barkley – Run

New Gnarls Barkley Run mp3
I am not usually on top of music leaks like this (at least not anymore), but I have got to admit, I was damn excited when I found this little track in my inbox. I was wondering when Danger Mouse was going to make enough time to work on Gnarls Barkley, but I am happy he did. This new track is called “Run” and it’s off of their sophomore album cleverly titled The Odd Couple. Once again, info on the album falls short, so keep your eyes open for this one.

Gnarls Barkley – Run

The song is kind of like a cross between “Smiley Faces” and “Go Go Gadget Gospel”, and thats not a bad thing!
