Dress Up As Kanye West, M.I.A., Lil Wayne This Halloween, Otherwise Known as Pretty Much Amazing’s Official Halloween 2008 Post, Part 2

If you’re anything like me (hopefully you’re not), you still have no idea what/who to “be” for  this year. Hopefully this helps out a little.  and . have always been some sort of trendsetters when it comes to fashion — , well he’s a little rebel, a rebel who’s had a monstrous year. Then there’s ’s hair — now, that shit is legendary.

Anyway, so PMA-endorsed Costume No. 2:

The M.I.A. costume consists of 4 things
1. The Wig
2. The Threads
3. The Short Shorts
4. The Paper Planes

Finding a neon colored wig on Halloween might be tough, but I’m sure not all hope is lost.

For the threads, I suggest you raid your American Apparelled out closet, if not, hit your local AA store.

You’ll need:
1. Shiny T
2. Shiny Leggings — I recommend these
3. Accessories — My Picks: Shades | Fake Jewerly | Scarves

The Short Shorts are extremely important, that’s why they didn’t get bunched together with the other “Threads” — these shorts have to be legendary. I think these would be a great.

Last but certainly not least, the Paper Planes. What the “Stronger” shades are to Kanye, the Paper Planes are to M.I.A. Not only was “Paper Planes” her breakthrough smash single, but it has become an international phenomenom. Something as idiosyncratic as this is a MUST HAVE for your M.I.A. costume — and the cool part is that they’re free! Just make a ton of them and throw them out all night!

Here’s a little guide on how to make a great paper plane. Get your friends to help you make at least 30-50 of these!

Dress Up As Kanye West, M.I.A., Lil Wayne This Halloween, Otherwise Known as Pretty Much Amazing’s Official Halloween 2008 Post, Part 1

If you’re anything like me (hopefully you’re not), you still have no idea what/who to “be” for Halloween this year. Hopefully this helps out a little. Kanye West and M.I.A. have always been some sort of trendsetters when it comes to fashion — Lil Wayne, well he’s a little rebel, a rebel who’s had a monstrous year. Then there’s Lil Wayne’s hair — now, that shit is legendary.

Anyway, so PMA-endorsed Costume No. 1:

The Kanye West costume has three vital components:
1. The well fitted suit.
2. The heart.
3. The “Stronger” shades.

You can find a well fitted suit in your closet, if not ask a friend. Still no luck? I’m sure your local Good Will has some cheap selections. The heart is a bit more tricky. But this is what I think you should do.

1. Get one piece of red construction paper and a sharpie.
2. Cut a heart out of the construction paper and color it black going across (refer to the image above if you need some inspiration)

Presto! You have your 808’s and Heartbreak heart.

The “Stronger” shades are definitely what MAKE the look. As you can tell, it transends ordinary sunglasses — lose the lense and throw in some shutters! Brilliant. And they’re available at your local mall. Trust me, you’ll find some. And all the cool kids wear them:

Holler-ween Week

Holler ween Week uncategorized

Tragically the real holiday is mid-week, but for those who celebrate Halloween with gusto, this past weekend was the week to dress up as your fave-to-love (or hate) celebrity, a slutty anything, or childhood hero. Granted, the good part about having Halloween in the middle of the week is that the celebration is not over yet! And it won’t be over until Thursday morning when you show up to work hungover and full of sugar from last night’s candy binge.

A friend introduced me to to the Chicago based band He Say, She Say. Not only am I digging this song “Modesty is Key,” but I love Drea’s yellow pumps. Vivacious!

Funny thing about Vampire Weekend: we all graduated from Columbia this past May (sigh, miss college life!). Somewhere between senior year boozing and studying, these four kids created a very good band. Unfortunately I didn’t know these guys while we were at school (although, I did do a pre-orientation program with Chris, who’s sniffing the flower), nor did I even know they were in a band! I really like this song “Walcott.”

I’ve also been listening to Locksley, a band from Wisconsin (some Midwestern goodness). I love “Don’t Wait On Me;” it’s one of those songs that upon listening to the first ten seconds, you know it’s gonna be good. The song begins with an excited guitar, which only gets more more excited as the song introduces vocals which sing “One look is all it took!” Easy rhymes and vibrant and rapid guitar strumming coupled with a happy melody makes for a dancey, tasty musical morsel.

(note: sorry that I am unable to let you guys play the mp3s right off the website, because I too like to listen to songs before I download them, but I have yet to find another website that lets me link directly to the song, not just to a page where you can download the mp3).

Happy Monday!
