John Legend – Everybody Knows (RAC Remix)

John Legend Everybody Knows (RAC Remix) mp3
PMA favorite RAC is back with a remix of John Legend’s latest single, “Everybody Knows.” John Legend is no stranger to singing over an electronic beat. He recently lent his voice to MSTRKRFT’s latest single, “Heartbreaker.” Both “Heartbreaker” and RAC’s remix feature a piano loop that will catch you instantly, but the latter definitely has more longevity.

What makes RAC’s remix of “Everyone Knows” better is the subtlety of the instrumentation. There is a certain delicacy in Legend’s voice and MSTRKRFT’s production overpowers it in the most unflattering way. It seems like AAA knows how to take care of a gift like that.

The original track is lead by a deep penetrating bass and a barely-there guitar that moves the song forward. Alone, “Everybody Knows” is top-class R&B single — but I can’t help but feel that RAC’s remix is strikingly better, while still keeping true to the aesthetic of a John Legend tune. Listen to it here: Continue reading →

MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (ft. John Legend)

MSTRKRFT Heartbreaker (ft. John Legend) listen
“Heartbreaker” is MSTRKRFT’s newest single from their Fist of God album. Featuring vocals by the very talented John Legend, “Heartbreaker” is an instant highlight on the album.

A highlight it may be, but by the song’s end, “Heartbreaker” is still a bit stale and monotonous. This sounds a lot less like a MSTRKRFT single and more like MSTRKRFT’s attempt at remixing John Legend. Continue reading →

New John Legend and Kanye West – It’s Over

New John Legend and Kanye West Its Over listen

At the heels of John Legend’s floppy first single, “Green Light,” he’s quick on the draw to pull the a chart-secured second single featuring Hip Hop’s and Pop’s favorite rapper. Kanye West has pulled 3 Top 10 singles this summer with the help of his vocoder (”Put On,” “Swagga Like Us,” and “Love Lockdown”). I really wish all these rappers would just stick to rapping, you know? It’s definitely not a good look. But this song is pretty decent, Kanye does little to add to it — let’s face it, he isn’t the best vocalist in the world. His affiliation with this song should be enough for a miniature iTunes hit, though.

I have a feeling someone doesn’t want this single leaked — so zShare this one! Continue reading →

New John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix)

New John Legend and Andre 3000 - Green Light (Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix)
Quite a while ago, I posted a hard-hitting MSTRKRFT remix of John Legend’s and Andre 3000’s fantasic “Green Light”. Since then many remixes have spawned up and made the usual rounds, but none have caused a commotion quite like Diplo only can. Last weekend, Diplo aired his new “Green Light” remixed (also know as the Diplo Dade Count 1988 Mix) — it’s just as good as you’d expect a Diplo remix to be, especially after that Top Ranking much of amazing.

John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (MSTRKRFT Remix)

MSTRKFRT
Before this remix, I didn’t even know John Legend and Andre 3K had collaborated. I’m glad I caught wind of this joint! Remix or not, “Green Light” is a fantastic song! For a very long time, I have thought that Andre 3000 is one of the best MCs in the game today. All I’m waiting for is another fantastic, hard-hitting, non-soundtrack Outkast album.

Also, MSTRKRFT are really getting themselves around in the whole popish urban scene aren’t they? I really loved their Usher “Love In This Club” remix and their Kylie Minogue “Wow” remix. I wasn’t a huge fan of their Jesse McCartney “Leavin’” remix though. Their next pop music conquest? It better be Rihanna’s phantasmagoric new single “Disturbia”, or maybe Ne-Yo’s equally fantastic “Closer”. That would really, really make me happy.

John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Usher – Love In This Club (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Kylie – Wow (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Jesse McCartney – Leavin’ (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Rihanna – Disturbia (MSTRKRFT Remix) Please?
Ne-Yo – Closer (MSTRKRFT Remix) Or This One?

Estelle Shines With John Legend and Cee-Lo

Estelle Shine

One of my favorite songbirds at the moment, Estelle, is prepping her new LP Shine for a late April release. She has been getting some press for her current single, “American Boy” with Kanye West, but I just don’t think people get how great she is. Here are a couple of tracks that have been floating around these interwebs that I found to be quite exquisite. “You Are” is Estelle’s lovely duet with John Legend, and the latter, “Pretty Please…” features vocals by Cee-Lo (from Gnarls Barkley).
