Justin Timberlake discovered Esmee Denters through Youtube and based on her debut single, you can tell why.
When Donnie Klang released his debut album, Just a Rolling Stone, he received criticism for cribbing JT’s style and now it seems like Esmee is cribbing the style of Ciara (there are parts in the song where she sounds just like Ciara) and Danity Kane.
The song isn’t terrible by any means, in fact, it sounds very late 2000s but you have to wonder why JT would sign a fresh talent he discovered on the Internet and make her sound like so many people that came before her?
The truth is, almost any other female singer out right now could have released this as their third or fourth single but it doesn’t really do much to announce the arrival of a fresh new talent. Listen to “Casanova” after the jump Continue reading →

“Since U Been Gone” will probably go down in history as one of the early 00’s best pop songs, along with other pop gems like “Toxic” and “Umbrella.” Like “Toxic” and “Umbrella,” “Since U Been Gone” is no stranger to the cover scene. Since it’s induction into chambers of pop royalty, Robyn, The Gossip, Ted Leo, the Aquabats, and Fucked Up have all covered the song.
Keri Hilson, on many occasions during her stay on Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveShow, covered Kelly Clarkson’s trademark single and Timbaland and JT have taken the vocals from her live performances put them over a generic Timbo/JT beat. The cover only runs a minute and 31 seconds, but it gives “Since U Been Gone” a nice r&b flavor to it, something I never imagined I’d enjoy. Continue reading →

Justin Timberlakes makes Ciara cool again! Don’t even try to argue with that. You will risk sounding retarded
Well I think we’ve all heard this song before, right? I mean before Ciara put her so-2004 vocals on it. I wonder if this is what will become of all of the Justin Timberlake demos that have leaked over the months. Even if the thought of being farther and father away from listening to new JT material isn’t a pleasant one, “Love & Sex & Magic” is one fantastic piece of pop music, even if it does sound like “Sexy Ladies” off his FutureSex/LoveSounds. Everything Justin Timberlake touches is always so damn irresistible. Continue reading →

Andy Samberg and company have finally released a full-length album- and it is just as funny, absurd, and car-shaking, rim-rocking, and pulse-pounding as you expected. So pop a cold Santana Lite and enter the world of Incredibad.
Let’s start off discussing the “greatest hits,” which comprise about half of the album. They are many- “Dick in A Box,” “Jizz in My Pants,” “Space Olympics,” “We Like Sportz” (recently released on YouTube, a sequel to “Just 2 Guyz”) and “Natalie’s Rap” to name a few. Of course, we then have the original SNL classic (“Lazy Sunday”) along with the newest hit (the T-Pain-boosted “I’m On A Boat”). Since all of these have corresponding music videos, you may be wondering what’s so fantastic about hearing them again in song form. You’ll be surprised- without the studio audience laughing, it’s easier to hear the slick production value, awesome beats, and more of the lyrics. “Sunday” sounds particularly impressive. All of the tracks that have previously aired on SNL or YouTube are funny, making Incredibad already a great album. Does the new material meet the challenge? Continue reading →
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know that the GRAMMYs were last night. It was a great show, one of the best GRAMMY Ceremonies in years. This year we enjoyed great performances from Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Robert Plant & Allison Krauss, U2, M.I.A., Kanye West, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, T.I., Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder… the list goes on and on. The performances were so good that I just had to list my 5 favorite performances of the night! Don’t forget to tell me about your favorite performances of the night in the comments.

I may not be the biggest country fan around, but I think Jennifer Nettles’ vocal delivery was fantastic, and you know what, the song isn’t so bad either. It’s great to hear beautifully sung music, regardless of genre. And Adele’s followup performance was amazing too. Highlight: Sugarland joining Adele on stage towards the end of “Chasing Pavements.”

Happy Super Bowl Sunday. Ready for the fifth episode of the pmaCAST? Grrreat! Continue reading →

Who would have thought that we’d be listening to a new Justin Timberlake leak on his birthday? Happy JT’s B-Day to you: I give you “Better Not Together.”
Actually, all props go to Big Mike and DJ Neptune and their Kings of R&B Part 2 mixtape which also wields a new Rihanna track. Is this song new? It’s hard to say. The JT fan in me tells me that “Better Not Together” sounds like something out of the Justified outtakes. Yet, Big Mike and DJ Neptune claim this is a “world premiere.” But hey — it can always be a world premiere of an old demo right? I’ll let you decide for yourselves.
What I do know is that “Better Not Together” has a lovely R&B throwback feel to it, that we sometimes enjoy from JT. This new leak has nothing on the previous one, “Bigger Than The World,” which I have hardcore love for. However, I don’t think either song accurately depicts the JT album that we will be hearing later this year. But you should still listen to it below: Continue reading →

That Rihanna leak wasn’t impressive, but this sure is. Justin Timberlake has always been a shining beacon for pop music salvation, and “Bigger Than The World” is as beautiful as pop music can get. The all-too-familiar production (some kind of “Lovestoned” and “Until The End of Time” mesh) and Justin’s sweet, sweet melodies make for a warm welcome and hopeful 2009 for Justin as true pop royalty.
I’m excited about this one and I’m hoping to God this cut get’s a sexy revamp (and a proper lyrics change — take this great song JT! don’t sell it!) and makes it to his upcoming album. Here’s to one of the best entertainers in the world. Continue reading →
