pmaCAST #21: Looking Better, Shining Brighter Than You Do

pmaCAST #21: Looking Better, Shining Brighter Than You Do musicThe twenty-first episode of the pmaCAST is here. The new episode runs a little bit over an hour and fifteen minutes and features some of my favorite songs of the moment. I’m pretty confident that you all will like this one.

There are two ways I want you guys to get the pmaCAST: the easiest way is to subscribe to the podcast via iTunes, for free of course. Every time I upload a new episode onto iTunes, it will automatically download onto your computer. The version of the episodes found on iTunes are enhanced with chapters (you can skip to whichever song you want), if you have an iPod or iPhone.

For those iTunes-impaired people out there, you can still download the .mp3 version of this podcast by clicking here. Read on for the tracklist of this episode. Continue reading →

Karen O and The Kids’ Where The Wild Things Are OST is an album that is impossible to consider abstracted from the movie it is destined to accompany. Unlike some soundtracks merely meant to advance the plot, provide suspense, or fill the void left by a lack of dialogue, this soundtrack embodies everything the movie is. The film’s characters make appearances, the themes of the songs match those of the book and movie, and the soundtrack’s parabola parallels that of Where The Wild Things Are’s plot.

So it is ironic, then, that I find myself reviewing this album prior to ever seeing the film. I feel, in many ways, that I’ve heard a sneak preview – that what I’ll see on the screen will simply be the music videos I’ve been imagining accompanying this album all along. And the fact that the film will likely exceed the expectations that this soundtrack creates fits with everything else related to the media blitz that has been WTWTA. Continue reading →

Karen O. and The Kids – All Is Love

Karen O. and The Kids All Is Love listen

“All Is Love” is a single from the soundtrack for Spike Jonze’s new film Where The Wild Things Are. The song is sung by Karen O. and a children’s choir that takes the lead on vocals. “All Is Love” is full of the energy and playfulness which the movie’s trailer easily conveys.

If you are looking for nothing more than a happy song to sing along to that will help you get through the day then you should definitely go ahead and download this song. A lot of respected indie artists are helping out on the soundtrack for the children’s book which was adored by many of us as kids so the entire soundtrack should be something to look forward to. UUVVWWZ – Castle / Shark Suit

UUVVWWZ Castle / Shark Suit listen
UUVVWWZ (read double U double V double W Z) is an indie rock quartet from Lincoln, Nebraska and they have just released their self-titled debut album on Saddle Creek. UUVVWWZ somehow got a hold of the ambitious, raw energy that seemed to be lacking in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ It’s Blitz.

“Castle” is a wonderful, multifaceted track; one that ties UUVVWWZ together and one that will certainly stick in peoples’ minds. “Shark Suit” dissects and transforms noise into palatable fuzzy-punk sounds, reminiscent of tricks worn brightly by Karen O and the gang.

N.A.S.A. – Strange Enough (ft. Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Fatlip) (Mr. Oizo Remix)

N.A.S.A. Strange Enough (ft. Karen O, Ol Dirty Bastard & Fatlip) (Mr. Oizo Remix) mp3
When I first heard Mr. Oizo’s remix of N.A.S.A.’s “Strange Enough,” I was a bit disappointed with the way his cuts seemed to delude Karen O’s fantastic hook on the song. By the second time around, Karen O’s hook felt deluded no longer — in fact, Mr. Oizo’s synth chops felt warm and joyous.

Indeed, it’s the choppy synth that really makes this remix shine. Only at first do they sound a bit awkward and ill-timed and it goes without saying that the discombobulation dies there. Mr. Oizo has always been a ball of fun and he has made this N.A.S.A. fan proud. Listen to his remix here Continue reading →

N.A.S.A. ft. Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, & Fatlip – Strange Enough

N.A.S.A. ft. Karen O, Ol Dirty Bastard, & Fatlip Strange Enough listen

The N.A.S.A. album may or may not have leaked this morning… but I do have that song everyone’s been dying to listen to. This song, along with “Whatchadoin?” are the only tracks that come close to “Gifted” and its immense perfection.

This song really makes me really yern for that new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album they keep promising. Grab “Strange Enough” down there. Continue reading →
