Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Style (ft. Kid Cudi)(Zuper Blahq Remix)

Black Eyed Peas Boom Boom Style (ft. Kid Cudi)(Zuper Blahq Remix) favorite songs
[rating:74/100]
Warning: You’re about to see the music chart geek side of me
This is not so much a remix, as it is an entirely fresh(?), independent thought, or what I’m calling “Boom Boom Pow, Pt. 2.” Think of Usher’s “Love In This Club.” It sat at the number one spot for a couple of weeks, what did he (and his label) do? He recorded “Love In This Club, Part II” with two sure-fire chart-hitters Beyonce and Lil Wayne (fact: “Love in This Club, Part II” peaked at number 18 on Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart).

I can’t imagine why this version of “Boom Boom Pow” wouldn’t be will.i.am & co.’s creative way to make sure “Boom Boom Pow” stays in the charts for as possible to maximize, exploit, and inflate possible first-week album sales for their upcoming LP, The E.N.D. It goes without saying that this remix will do exceptionally well in urban and rhythmic radio formats (the same formats that helped T.I. take control of the first two spots on the Hot 100 for weeks with “Whatever You Like” and “Live Your Life”). It’s also notable that Kid Cudi’s “Day N Nite” is currently sitting at No. 6 on iTunes, and “Boom Boom Pow” is sitting at No. 1 almost a month after its release. The BEP and Cudi lovechild has almost-insured iTunes and radio success.

All this may actually come to pass on May 5th (my birthday by the way) when the Black Eyed Peas release their Invasion Of Boom Boom Pow EP. This EP is where this Zuper Blahq-produced, Kid Cudi remix comes from. The EP will also come packed with Boys Noize remixes featuring 50 Cent and Gucci Mane, and a David Guetta Remix. I have received my promo copy, and I like it.

Kid Cudi – Higher Up

Kid Cudi Higher Up listen
I know as much as Pigoens and Planes about this track. Don’t know if it is new or old, but I do know that it’s a bit short, running just over 2 minutes. I also know that Cudi is doing his thing over the Dr. Dre produced “Imagine” (no not that “Imagine” dummy; the Snoop Dogg song).

My guess is that this was an outtake from his “A Kid Named Cudi” mixtape. It wouldn’t have been a bad idea to include it in there though. I always like Cudi best over a slow beat, and nobody does slow like Dre. Gotta love them keys. Download this after the jump Continue reading →

Chiddy Bang – Day and Night (Chiddy Bang Remix)

Chiddy Bang Day and Night (Chiddy Bang Remix) listen
[rating:74/100]
Chiddy Bang are making some serious noise thanks to their infectious tracks and their excellent use of our favorite songs. If you read this blog, you know that I love covers and remixes — and you will come to learn that new school sampling is my religion. However, I am still a strong proponent to originality in music; I like to hear new and exciting things, and Chiddy Bang fits the bill.

We last left Chiddy Bang tweaking out to some MGMT, and this time they’re back sampling the master-class new school sampler, Kid Cudi. We’ve all heard “Day N Nite” done a million which ways and I’m pretty damn tired of it. Chiddy Bang does a great job keeping “Day and Night” familiar while giving the song its own identity.

Check out Chiddy Bang’s myspace page for dates for their upcoming Kung Fu East Coast Tour. Also, if you’re in the NYC area on May 13th, Chiddy Bang will be hitting up Southpaw in Brooklyn — this is a show you must check out!

Kevin Rudolf – Welcome To The World (ft. Kid Cudi)

Kevin Rudolf Welcome To The World (ft. Kid Cudi) listen[rating:64/100]

“Welcome To The World” is Kevin Rudolf’s answer to those calling him a one-hit-wonder. His massive hit (but somehow, still understated) single with Lil Weezy, “Let It Rock” has seem acclaim worldwide, has been certified platinum by the RIAA, and has reached Top 5 glory, it inevitably started to fizzle down.  Since then, Rudolf dropped the hopeful second single, “Welcome To The World” featuring Rick Ross. As far as I know, that wasn’t working out for him too well. But maybe now that he has the recently un-retired Kid Cudi on the track, coupled with both of their first-single success stories, maybe “Welcome To The World” can become the big second single Kevin Rudolf hoped it would be. Kid Cudi Retires After A Soon-To-Be-Big OH-9

Kid Cudi Retires After A Soon To Be Big OH 9 listen
It’s not April 1st yet, so why is KiD CuDi, or what his fans effectionately call him, Cudders all-caps blogging about retiring from the game after his debut album drops later this year? At least Lupe Fiasco had the balls to stick it out for 3 albums…

In his infuriatingly improper rant, the Kid says the “drama” that comes with being a star is worse than the stuff he had to deal with while he was piss broke. And because of said drama, he wants to drop out of the game before his peers (and his suppressors) “crucify” him. Cudi also asks his fans and judges to not think of his leave of absence as quitting, because apparently, he has accomplished his goal. His goal was to 1) establish a fanbase, 2) have multiple big records, and 3) receiving critical acclaim from the tastemakers all before releasing a full album.

What kind of career goals are those? That sounds like a bullet-proof dream start to a fantastic and long career, not something that encompasses Kid Cudi’s full potential — and believe me, he has enough potential to spare.

But all this is okay because it’s all bullshit. Right? Read on for Kid Cudi’s entire tirade. Continue reading →

Kid Cudi – Sky Might Fall (Prod. Kanye West)

Kid Cudi Sky Might Fall (Prod. Kanye West) favorite songs

Here’s that track Kid Cudi let the Transformers people use for their trailer. It’s pretty chill, but I’m nowhere near impressed. I’m not a huge fan of recycled beats. It’s cool when a song gives slight nods to others, but Kanye’s production on “Sky Might Fall” sounds just like “Welcome To Heartbreak.” Maybe now I understand why Kanye West thinks that Cudi’s album is a classic in a making — it’s going to use the same beats he used on 808s. Ha, sneaky Kanye.

But seriously, Cudi can do better than this, even as a lyricist. I’ve been revisiting A Kid Named Cudi late at night for a few weeks now — this song would not stand out at all in that mixtape. It’s good Friday listening though. Continue reading →

Little Boots – Day N Nite (Kid Cudi Cover)

As Pigeons And Planes pondered when they posted this yesterday, how is this not all over the internet? Regardless, Little Boots has an excellent, piano-based cover of Kid Cudi’s hit, “Day ‘N’ Nite” up on Youtube. Check it out right here at PMA.
