Some Remixes on a Sunday #2

Some Remixes on a Sunday #2 mp3

Continuing this from last Sunday.

Listen up. I’ve got a whole lotta new shizz for you and your granny. No, I really do. I’m just completely swamped. If I had a bit more time this week, almost every single one of these remixes would have seen its own post. But, alas, life doesn’t work out that way. Maybe some of you can help me?

Beyond normal life stuff, I have been pretty busy watching movies. Award season is upon us and I am still severely behind. While most of the theaters around here are playing what I want to see, I am having scheduling issues. My big priorities this week are: Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler, and Gran Torino. I say that in confidence because I already wasted this weekend watching some pretty shitty guilty pleasure movies.

Yes. I watched Bride Wars and The Unborn this weekend, instead of catching up on films I know I would enjoy. Bride Wars wasn’t too bad — I didn’t expect much in the first place, but The Unborn was just insulting. Hopefully now I’ve had my fill of cheap Hollywood escapism. I need to focus on cheap-yet-affluent escapist movies now. But before I throw away $100 this week in movies (and movie-related expenses), have any of you seen Rachel Getting Married, The Wrestler, or Gran Torino? Are either of those films that I may not need to watch at the theater? Would the comfort of my own home suffice? Can you point me in the right direction of the torrent?

Damn, and I still have to watch The Reader, I’ve Loved You So Long, Frost/Nixon, Defiance, Che, and Good.

Now, my mom raised me right. I won’t ask for something without giving you another something in return. Here are 10 Remixes. But before you listen… isn’t that a cool pic up there?

Kings Of Leon – Use Somebody (Dolby Anol Remix)

I’m not going to comment on every remix, but this first one is just splendid. I can’t begin to tell you how much I like this one. Great use of this particularly great KOL track. Continue reading →

Ana’s Best Albums, Songs, and Movies of 2008

Anas Best Albums, Songs, and Movies of 2008 best of 2008

Best Album

Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago: This album will never get old for me. It’s so simple and beautiful … or simply beautiful!

Girl Talk – Feed the Animals: I love nostalgia and so much of this album was a trip down memory lane … just fused with this year’s radio hits. Plus, anyone that can mix Jay-Z with Radiohead and not fuck it up deserves some cred.

MGMT – Oracular Spectacular: Is this not on anyone’s list?

Calexico – Carried to Dust: My first taste of Calexico and I was super impressed. I love the variety of influences and styles you hear in their songs.

Lykke Li – Youth Novels: It really didn’t take much for me to get into Lykke Li. I heard “Tonight” and instantly wanted more. It’s been love ever since.

Randi’s Best (and Worst) of 2008

This year has been pretty great. I started it off in Costa Rica for 10 days, and I finished it with 5 in Florida. The music wasn’t too bad either… we were introduced to great new bands, but lost legends like Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Bo Diddly, Isaac Hayes, Richard Wright, Odetta, Eartha Kitt, and George Carlin (who I know shouldn’t count under music legends but I adored him). I must say I’m really looking forward to next year’s selections (Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Chris Cornell, Lily Allen, The Decemberists… and that’s just what’s coming out Jan – March). I’ll also be studying in London from mid-January to mid-May (& *fingers crossed* L.A. mid-August to late-December), and I can’t wait to discover hundreds of more bands across the pond!

So without further ado, here’s my favorites and least favorites of this year – songs, covers, remixes, albums, TV shows, videos & movies [in that order]. Quick sidenote: when you look at my favorite songs, make sure to factor in the songs that I put as my favorite songs of the album in my favorite albums section. I just didn’t want to repeat myself, even though after re-reading this paragraph I’m not sure if I made myself any clearer. Anyway, I loved most of this year’s music, and here’s what I loved (and hated) the most.

I like to get the worst out of the way first, like ripping off a band-aid. So without further ado…

Least Favorite Songs (Or Songs That Made Me Hate Music)

10 – Flo Rida ft Will.I.Am – In The Ayer

9 – Rihanna – Take a Bow

8 – Kid Rock – All Summer Long

7- Miley Cyrus – See You Again

6 – Britney Spears – Womanizer

5 – Katy Perry – Ur So Gay

4 – Katy Perry – Hot N Cold

3 – Lil’ Wayne – Hot Revolver

2 – Soulja Boy – Yahh

1 – Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl

Somehow #1 and #8 on my Most-Hated list made it to #18 and #20 on Rolling Stone’s BEST Of list, which makes me more than a little sick. But I digress. Moving on…

Favorite Songs (Just in Alphabetical Order and Probably Missing Some)

PMA Celebrates Thanksgiving Too! Viewer Discretion Advised

PMA Celebrates Thanksgiving Too! Viewer Discretion Advised mp3

I really do heart turkey and the sleepy euphoria it brings.

So, Happy Thanksgiving from Pretty Much Amazing, everyone! I hope you enjoy your turkey and pie. I will.

These songs aren’t very Thanksgiving-y but it’s what I’ve been listening to all day, so it’s even better than random songs with “Thank You” or “November” in the title:

New Kings of Leon – Closer

New Kings of Leon Closer listen
The new Kings of Leon album, Only By The Night, is almost upon us. The album will be released via Columbia Records on September 23rd. Before the album becomes annoyingly ubiquitous, I wanted to share the amazing album opener titled “Closer” — if read incorrectly, this song title would be totes ironic (haha). This little song sets the mood of the (so-far) brilliant album. Granted, it’s a little song, but it packs a punch. Along with first single “Sex on Fire,” and most of the album, this track is so good it’s retarded.

New Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire

Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon

So Kings of Leon has posted a new song up on their Myspace page– in case you didn’t already see the blog storm it has caused in a little over 24 hours. “Sex on Fire” is a helluva lot different than anything we heard on Because of the Times and it really did it for me, in terms of putting their September 23rd release Only By The Night on my anticipation list. “Crawl” really didn’t do that for me.

Listen to both songs below:-

Kings of Leon – Sex On Fire
Kings of Leon – Crawl
