La Roux’s Elly Jackson Might Be Psychic

So, we’re (almost) pretty sure it’s not us, but Elly Jackson of La Roux fame seems to tend towards the short and sweet when asked a question. We guess she likes to keep it simple, and that’s cool, because we at least know we won’t be bored to tears with any long winded answers. You as the reader should be happy that not much of your time is going to be taken up reading this.
Also, we think she might be psychic. Just a little bit. She notes an eerie, unintentional prediction she made once that had us wondering. We know she’s a tease because a few of her short and sweet answers are a bit cheeky, as they say. Go ahead and take a look and see if you’re not even more intrigued than you were before going in over what this elusive and charismatic ginger pixie is all about.
Is she a fashion icon? A throwback to an era we dancing fiends find ourselves yearning to recapture in the music we listen to and the clothes we wear? Who’s she into and what does she do when she’s not on stage wowing us with her awesome? We tried to get these answers out of her and came out both grinning like idiots and scratching our heads. La Roux- I’m Not Your Toy (Music Video)

This old news to some of you, but we’re finally coming around to “I’m Not Your Toy” being La Roux’s new single (we prefer “Tigerlilly,” thanks). The words in La Roux’s latest single “I’m Not Your Toy” seem fitting for its futuristic Great Gasby like video. Continue reading →

pmaCAST #17: True Blood
pmaCAST #16, better known as the PMA Summer Playlist, was ridiculously long and overwhelmingly popular. It was 120mb of summer fun and was downloaded over 4400 times so far, making it the most downloaded episode of the pmaCAST. This 17th episode of the podcast is an extension to the Summer Playlist, in honor of the Senate passing the $2 Billion Extension for the “Cash For Clunkers” Program. Ok, that’s not true. But please get your hunk of junk off our roads. ![]()
Anyway, this new podcast was somewhat inspired by a True Blood season 1 marathon and is made up of a mix of current and old favorites. Hopefully you’ll discover or rediscover something here.

823KEYPROJECT: A Community of Reverie

Dear Pretty Much Amazing readers: A message from The Confluence. Read on for a remix goodie-bag.
Every now and then, out of pure frustration and exhaustion comes an idea that is unique and inspiring. I’d like to introduce you to the lovely 823KEYPROJECT. It is pretty simple, after giving a friend of his who was having a tough time a skeleton key necklace he made, offering the well known catch phrase, “when one door closes, another opens,” Trevor Hubbard thought everyone could use a key. 823KEYPROJECT launched two weeks later as a way for 823 people to purchase vintage, one of a kind, skeleton key neckpieces. To date, the 823keyproject has done nothing but spread the word to friends and watch it grow. 259 keys have been sold in 8 countries in just about 5 months.
The money goes into a fund and when the last key is sold, the fund is unlocked and up to $25,000 in grant money is available for artists to apply. Applying artists can be from any medium, discipline, background. This process will be repeated 26 times or as many letters there are in the alphabet. When Trevor began the project his goal was to bring together 823 people and the work of many enterprising artists of a common pulse, a thread that links the contribution and purchases of many to the creation of one vision for a better world and community through almost any medium or vision.
This is how it breaks down. Continue reading →

pmaCAST #16: For Summer Only
There are many reasons why I feel that summertime is the best time of the year, and most of them are here on this playlist. Spanning thirty-six songs (!!), this 16th pmaCAST — and our longest podcast ever, clocking in at over 2 hours and 10 minutes — is all about the tunes that make a perfect summertime listen. Download this here or on iTunes (via the links above), put it on your iPod, put it on a mixtape-shaped flash-drive (seriously, buy one) and give it to your friends, play it at a beach party — do something with it!

La Roux – Tigerlily/Farewell To The Fairground (White Lies Cover)

La Roux is often overshadowed by the more accessible and likable Little Boots, and to be honest, neither of her new singles (In For The Kill, Not Your Toy, Bulletproof) have had any staying power on my iPod — not like their debut single “Quicksand.” Now that La Roux’s debut album has been splattered all over the internet, I’ve had a chance to poke my head in search of a song of “Quicksand” caliber. After a handful of listens, “Tigerlily” seems to be a good candidate. It’s by no means better than “Quicksand,” but it is a lot more interesting than US single “In For The Kill.” Edit: it might just be better than “Quicksand”
“Tigerlily” introduces La Roux’s seductive, sexy side to fantastic result. Elly Jackson’s confined vocals become feral and luring throughout the song; and at one point a remarkably menacing, timely and relevant “Thriller”-esque soliloquy floods the track.
“Tigerlily” precedes “Quicksand” on the eponymous album, marking for one of the year’s most thrilling one, two KO’s, putting it in the company of Little Boots’ “Remedy”-”Meddle,” Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets”-”Moth’s Wings,” Animal Collective’s “Daily Routine”-”Bluish,” and Phoenix’s “Lisztomania”-”1901.” Listen to “Tigerlily” here Continue reading →

La Roux – Quicksand (Mad Decent Remix)

It’s official people, La Roux’s debut album will be out this summer. More specifically, June 26th in the UK. But that’s still a while away, here is more exciting news. I saw this little number at Deathelectro, and I almost peed my pants. I absolutely love the peoples over at Mad Decent and their fun works. Make sure to check out some Mad Decent alumni on the road. Head over to their myspace page for dates and info.
The remix? Well you know how it goes, at first you feel like you expected more from Mad Decent, especially when dealing with a song as awesome as “Quicksand,” but then a handful of listens later you see that with a few drinks, this remix can totally rock your world. La Roux – I’m Not Your Toy & Bulletproof

Electropop outfit La Roux (did you know this was a duo? really? where’s the dude?) finally have more electronic goodies too offer. “In For The Kill” was a fun track, but it didn’t touch her debut single, “Quicksand.” The two new tracks, “I’m Not Your Toy” and “Bulletproof” keep running hard on 80’s nostalgia. I find both of the new songs to be a bit more interesting than “In For The Kill,” which leaves me excited for the rest of La Roux’s album.
Listen to the new tracks after the jump. Continue reading →
