Blog Wars: The Genius Playlist | Round 1, Battle 3

On Sunday The Music Slut and We All Want Someone To Shout For were both on the hot seat. It was a close one.  It started out with We All Want ahead by less than 5% and then things switched over to the Music Slut’s favor and sometime between then and now, things were tied 50/50 and We All Want Someone jump ahead by 8%. With 54% of the votes, We All Want Someone to Shout For moves ahead. Sorry Music Slut, you won’t make the second round of  this Blog War.

On this third battle, Ear Farm and The Culture of Me are taking on Lil Wayne’s “Dr. Carter.” I have a feeling we’re about to see two really ghetto playlists.

New Justice – We Are Your Friends (Disco Villains remix)

New Justice We Are Your Friends (Disco Villains remix) mp3

The blogosphere may be starving for new Justice material, but the remixes keep acomin’. I’m trying to refrain from posting every single one — but that Datsu remix was all the rage, and you know it. And now we have a remix worthy of its predecessor. Disco Villains haven’t been properly introduced here at Pretty Much Amazing, and I don’t know why. Must have slipped my mind. Better late than never, right?

I hear that there’s no introduction like a Justice introduction.

Listen/Download Justice’s “We Are Your Friends” remixed and reimagined by Disco Villains — it’s a fucking convulsive mess; and I mean that in a good way. Continue reading →

EW: SONGS ON THE VERGE

EW picks the Spring’s next big singles! But in my eyes, this list is crap, none of these will be “big”… because, well, Rihanna nor Chris Brown are on it.. also HOW can these be hits without Timbaland or T-Pain being involved? This is a little too confusing.

1. TEYANA TAYLOR – Google Me: Download | Link 2
Alright… maybe this song will make it.

2. SHE & HIM – Why Do You Let Me Stay Here
Indie crooner M. Ward + actress/singer/pixie Zooey Deschanel = one delightful country-pop ditty.

3. KATHLEEN EDWARDS – Buffalo
Gorgeous piano stunner from the gifted Canadian folkie.

4. SANTOGOLD – L.E.S. Artistes: Download | XXXChange RMX
Downtown cool filtered through spare, ragga-inspired backbeats.

5. HERCULES AND LOVE AFFAIR – Blind: Download
Indelible, horn-addled electro for the masses.

6. IDLE WARSHIP – Industry Diary
Rapper Talib Kweli and songstress Res take down the music biz, create superhot cut.

7. APES & ANDROIDS – Riverside: Download
Ambitious psych epic rife with squiggles and tambourines.

8. RAFTER – Love Time Now Please
Floaty, horn-filled kook-rock pastiche from the San Diego-based Friend of Sufjan.

9. ELF POWER – Spiral Stairs
Longtime Athens, Ga., collective produce pretty piece of jangle-pop fuzz.

10. SEAN GARRETT – Grippin’: Download | Link 2
Atlanta hip-hopper enlists Ludacris for sweet, synth-driven come-on.

New MP3s: Ludacris, Alicia Keys Remix; New Roots (Again)

Ludacris
1. Ludacris, Ultimate Satisfaction (Cabin Bwoy remix) MP3 | AUDIO
Ludacris’s “Ultimate Satisfaction” gets even more ultimate (or at least druggier) with a sample from Underworld’s “Born Slippy,” made famous by the classic heroin comedy Trainspotting.

2. Alicia Keys – Like You’ll Never See Me Again (Jony Rockstar Remix) MP3 | AUDIO
Here’s my favorite song off of As I Am given a little upbeat(ish) twist. It’s clean, cut and refreshing. I’ve been getting tired of the grime. Nice change.

3. The Roots feat. Mos Def, Styles P & Dice Raw – Rising Down (Hum Drum) MP3 | AUDIO
Damn, a third straight cut from The Roots’ upcoming Rising Down in stores April 29th. This one might be my favorite. Though “Birthday Girl” was quite a number.

4. Bloc Party vs. Ting Tings – Thats Not My Flux (Sunderland Mash) MP3 | AUDIO
Here’s a semi-new Bloc Party and Ting Tings mashup by DJ Sunderland. Its a pretty decent mashup, one of the best I’ve heard in a while. But nothing revolutionary. But enjoy anyway.
