Kleerup & Lykke Li – Until We Bleed

Kleerup & Lykke Li Until We Bleed listen

I know, I know, it seems like I’m trying to give you some sort of Lykke Li overload lately, but I can’t help that she is coming up with some great music lately. This one is a track Lykke Li did with Kleerup called “Until We Bleed.”

To be quite honest, I’m not the biggest Kleerup fan. Not because I don’t like the music, but mostly out of inexperience. But Lykke Li does sound amazing over a beat like this, I’ll give him that much (he also produced Robyn’s “With Every Heartbeat,” I especially liked that one). Give it a listen, you’ll be hooked. Poketknife remixes one of Lykke Li’s most beloved songs and it’s quite lovely. This remix kills me.

Pretty Much Amazing’s Best Albums of 2008

Pretty Much Amazings Best Albums of 2008 best of 2008
2008 was quite a year for music. Maybe it wasn’t as great as 2007, but we made due with what we had. I didn’t connect with an album in 2008 the way I connected with In Rainbows, or Neon Bible, or Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Those were albums that had me falling in love with every track listen after listen. However, the following twenty albums are my favorite albums of 2008 and ranking them was somewhat painful/futile — which is why we came to the conclusion that numbering year-end lists was completely sacrilegious and spat in the face of music lists everywhere.

After deciding to trash the option of numbering this list, I went with dividing my Top 20 albums into 3 categories: Big Albums by Big Names, Newcomers, and Eye Openers. Are you ready? Here are Pretty Much Amazing’s 20 Favorite Albums of 2008.

Leave your top albums in the comments, if you’d like! We’d love to hear them! Oh and if you have a blog and have posted a year end list, drop the link in the comments as well!

Ana’s Best Albums, Songs, and Movies of 2008

Anas Best Albums, Songs, and Movies of 2008 best of 2008

Best Album

Bon Iver – For Emma, Forever Ago: This album will never get old for me. It’s so simple and beautiful … or simply beautiful!

Girl Talk – Feed the Animals: I love nostalgia and so much of this album was a trip down memory lane … just fused with this year’s radio hits. Plus, anyone that can mix Jay-Z with Radiohead and not fuck it up deserves some cred.

MGMT – Oracular Spectacular: Is this not on anyone’s list?

Calexico – Carried to Dust: My first taste of Calexico and I was super impressed. I love the variety of influences and styles you hear in their songs.

Lykke Li – Youth Novels: It really didn’t take much for me to get into Lykke Li. I heard “Tonight” and instantly wanted more. It’s been love ever since.

Stereogum & team9 Present… MySplice III

Stereogum & team9 Present... MySplice III mp3

Stereogum and team9 have teamed up for a third year in a row to bring us their MySplice III mashup compilation. The mix includes 2008 blog staples like Bloc Party, Lykke Le, of Montreal, Beck, and Crystal Castles mashed with 2008’s ineluctable pop hits (Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kanye, Katy Perry). Oh, and they through in some oldies as well (Cyndi Lauper, Guns N’ Roses, etc).

I don’t know if you guys feel it too, but I can’t help but think this is the best MySplice yet.

Stream the whole thing here, and download the mp3s below the player.

Who/What is N.A.S.A.?

Got an email last night. It made me feel good. It made me feel this excitement I haven’t felt in a while.

N.A.S.A. (North America South America) is an international collective of musicians spanning a wide spectrum of musical genres, centered around Squeak E. Clean (Sam Spiegel) & DJ Zegon (Ze Gonzales). Sam & Ze met in April of 2003 at a friend’s studio & began making music together the following day. At first they sampled rare Brazilian records from the 60’s & 70’s to make tracks. However, what started as two crate diggers making music for the fun of it soon developed into something much bigger. Having forged a strong friendship through their passion for music, Sam & Ze decided to make a record with all of their heroes & favorite musicians. The idea was to bring people from different worlds together through their shared inspiration & love of music. Thus, N.A.S.A. was born. Soon Sam & Ze realized they could expand the concept to encompass an entire record. The idea is to ignore all of the boundaries & borders that are in place to keep people divided, such as musical genre, race, politics, geography, language, etc. As a result, they gathered the craziest and most eclectic collection of musicians ever assembled on one album in the hope that they can show, through music, that all those superficial divisions are an illusion.

N.A.S.A. proves we are all one race of human beings interested in collaboration and unity, ignoring preconceptions, and transcending genre definitions.

New Kanye West, Santogold & Lykke Li – Gifted

New Kanye West, Santogold & Lykke Li Gifted listen

Yeah, I know, the post title made me giddy too. Too bad I don’t know much about this track… but here’s what I do know:

1. Someone randomly emailed it to me, but it wasn’t like it’s hard to catch my attention when you put “Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li” in the email header.

2. “Gifted” will be featured on N.A.S.A.’s album, The Spirit of Apollo due mid February.

3. Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li on the same damn song! I should have just skipped to #3.

This song is crazy. Like, CRAZY crazy.
