New Madonna – Miles Away (Thin White Duke Remix)

New Madonna Miles Away (Thin White Duke Remix) mp3

Jacques lu Cont, aka the Thin White Duke has remixed Madonna’s “Miles Away” off her latest album, Hard Candy. “Miles Away” was one of my favorite songs off the album and quite frankly, I expected more from the Confessions On A Dancefloor producer.

I do have to admit that this remix does have me tapping my toes a bit. It’s just not as good as I expected a Jacques lu Cont remix to be.

Check the remix out after the jump! Continue reading →

The Definitive Lady Gaga

The Definitive Lady Gaga listenLady Gaga will make her U.S. album debut tomorrow, October 28th with one of the most impressive dance-pop albums of the year, The Fame. I’ve had this album for quite a while now and it’s full of pretty damn great party music acompanying some very unexpected and lovely twists and turns.

I have been enjoying Lady Gaga’s music alone for quite a while now. It’s time I share the love, for those who don’t know who she is.

The Definitive Lady Gaga

1. Just Dance – This is the definitive Lady Gaga song. Gaga doesn’t hold back on this one. She gives us the sizzling synths and crackling breaks with one goal in mind: to make you dance.

YouTube Preview Image2. Beautiful Dirty Rich – Catching up with her massive global club hit “Just Dance,” Lady Gaga goes for the jugular with this rich kid goes bad confessional anthem. Gaga has nothing to be sorry about this ridiculously catchy, sharp-tongued tune. This really would have been my life song a couple of years ago.

YouTube Preview Image3. Poker Face – By the time you reach this song, you should know that Lady Gaga is a small goddess. “Poker Face” sounds like the product of a Robyn vs The Knife techno face-off.

4. The Fame – The album’s title track is just as stellar as the first three singles. This time we’re reminded of Madonna’s “Material Girl” and oddly, Hilary Duff’s “Dignity” comes to mind. Wherever the inspiration came from, it’s hard to ignore Lady Gaga’s immaculate song-craft and her seemingly unparalleled talent of creating infectious and addictive tracks with sweet dance-pop righteousness as their gold lining.

Cover Tuesday 17: Of Montreal & MGMT – Smeels Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana Cover)

Cover Tuesday 16 covers
Unless you can pull an awesome cover off!

Time for your weekly dose of covers. This week I have nice bunch of covers for you from Of Montreal and MGMT, Natasha Bedingfield, Mates of State, and the Cure.

Of Montreal & MGMT – Smeels Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana cover): This cover is only 4 days old, definitely the baby of this week’s batch. While on tour the unstoppable force that is Of Montreal and MGMT took a big risk and covered the most influential and beloved song of the 1990’s. When Kurt Cobain and co. first invisioned this song — I bet it sounded a lot like this in his head.

Natasha Bedingfield – Ray Of Light (Madonna cover): British songbird, Natasha Beddingfield recorded this cover for Radio 1’s 40th Anniversary compilation. I gotta say, she did a wonderful job singing this song. Ask any singer, or her Royal Mageness herself, “Ray of Light” is one tough song to sing. Thankfully, Natasha Bedingfield’s vocal range is incredible and suitable worth of “Ray of Light.” Very impressed.

Of Montreal – Crazy (Gnrals Barkley cover): Here’s another Of Montreal cover. They are quickly becoming my favorite cover band. This Gnarls Barkley cover is exquisite.

Mates Of State – California (Phantom Planet cover): This is such a great cover to an iconic song.

The Cure – Love Will Tear Us Apart (Joy Division cover): One of the many, many “Love WIll Tear Us Apart” covers, an done of the best.

Download these covers after the jump! Continue reading →

Cover Tuesday 15: is Back! Best Covers of Summer 2008

Cover Tuesday 15: is Back! Best Covers of Summer 2008 covers
Unless you can pull an awesome cover off!

I’ve read the emails and the comments — and even some freaky death threats. So, by popular demand, Cover Tuesday is back. Hopefully this will give you something to look forward to on Tuesdays again.

This summer has really been a good one for covers. I figured I’d so a mini-recap of the great new covers we all added (if not, do so now!) to our collections over the summer months. I’m taking about our two favorite MGMT songs being covered by some unlikely acts. Coldplay trying out dance pop. Vampire Weekend covering the only Fleetwood Mac song I like. Rihanna’s ode to Madonna. Madonna’s ode to ABBA. And Kinks going “violet.” Continue reading →

New Rihanna – Vogue (Madonna Cover)

Rihanna Fashion Rocks
It’s has been one huge fashion frenzy this week here in New York. I can’t imagine why… whatever. What I’m more interested in is this fantastic live rip of Rihanna performing her rendition of Madonna’s underground New York City gay club scene inspired “Vogue.” Rih Rih performed this little number at last Friday’s Fashion Rocks 5 (CBS aired Condé Nast Media Group’s 2-hour Fashion Rocks Special at Radio City Music Hall last night).

Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Duffy, Fergie, Justin Timberlake, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, and Mariah Carey joined Rihanna on stage to perform in honor of Condé Nast Media Group’s Fifth Anniversary of Fashion Rocks celebration.

‘New’ Madonna – Like An Angel Passing Through My Room (ABBA Cover)

Madonna
As if in time for Mama Mia’s theatrical release, this Music-era (or is it Ray of Light-era?) demo blasts its way through the internet, first hitting Madonna’s various fan forums and eventually to the trusty blogosphere. This ABBA cover is a bit underwhelming to say the least, you can see why this wasn’t ever released. But it’s nice to hear a ‘new’ Madonna non-hip hopity track.

PMA College Music Project: NYU – New York City, New York

PMA College Music Project: NYU New York City, New York college music project

Earlier this week I ran an idea passed everyone. To my endless gratitude and surprise, I received many submissions for the PMA College Music Project! Three from students who live or dwell with NYU students and have embraced the 10 quintessential NYU dorm party songs many times. I really hope more college students continue to email me with their School’s Top 10 songs played around the halls and at parties. I really want to keep this weekly feature up. Remember, emailing me makes you the Office PMA Ambassador of your respective school (doesn’t that sound fancy)!

Without further ado, here is NYU’s Top 10 Songs (According to 3 entries)

Bloc Party – Mercury
The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name
CSS – Left Behind
The Ting Tings – Shut Up And Let Me Go
MGMT – Electric Feel
Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes
Mystery Jets – Two Doors Down
Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl
The Ting Tings – Great DJ
Madonna – Give It 2 Me

Download: PMA College Music Project: NYU [60 MB .zip]

Does anyone else think NYU is totally obsessed with The Ting Tings? But we all know there’s nothing wrong with that. I also love the presence of the Best Worst Song of 2008 (“I Kissed a Girl”) and Madonna’s best song since she was a cowboy (“Give It 2 Me”).

New Britney Spears Album Release Date – Mid-December

Britney Spears

Britney Spears fans (like me) will have even more to look forward to this Christmas.

From The #1 Britney Spears Fansite BreatheHeavy.com:

“Britney Spears is definitely in the studio and working on a new album,” a source tells FoxNews.com. “[Britney] is working on a CD that Jive is expecting to get out by mid-December.”

According to the source, “the album is a follow-up to “Blackout… many of the same producers and writers will be on this one, too.” Fine by me; “Blackout” has been her best album to date in my opinion. Although I do love me some Indyzone.

But why the rush to put out an album? “One reason for the big push to put Britney back in stores is that she owes Jive a lot of money. If they can finish the album and get it out without incident, my guess is that Spears will go out on tour in 2009.”

Last month, Jive Records announced that they were going to stop releasing any more singles off Britney’s Blackout — leaving many fans kind of confused, arguing that Blackout still had many single-quality tracks up its sleeve. But the truth is that Britney’s been in the studio.

Here is what wiki has to say:

  • Music producers, JR Rotem and Sean Garrett, whom worked with Spears on her previous album, Blackout, told People that they are back in the studio with Spears. A source also told the magazine that she is in the experimental stages of a new album and Spears is trying to find the sound and direction she wants to go in.
  • Music producer, Guy Sigsworth spoke with the Los Angeles Times and said that he has signed on to work with Spears on her upcoming album due out later in the year. Sigsworth previously produced her single, Everytime in 2004.
  • Britney’s aunt, Chandra McGovern told Britain’s The Sun that Spears is working on a new album and could go head to head with Whitney Houston’s upcoming album.
  • Several reports have surfaced, that Spears could be in talks with George Maloof, owner of the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas to perform a string of shows at the resort’s Pearl Theater. Spears and Maloof have been seen on multiple occasions having dinner business meetings, were thought to be making plans for the performances.
  • This last piece of news/rumor is definitely something I am interested in. Last May I dished over $100 to go see Britney perform 5 songs at the House of Blues in Los Angeles — I will definitely travel to Vegas to see her put on a proper performance at the Palms

I hope all this news is accurate, a new Britney album will be friggen KILLER. Blackout is STILL on heavy-ish rotation on my iPod. Here’s some remixes and rarities you might like:
Britney Spears vs. Justice – I Just Wanna D.A.N.C.E. With You (Neon Coyote Remix)

But a few days after “Birthday Girl” leaked… “Rising Up” reassured us of the Roots’ talent.
  5. Death Cab For Cutie Possessing My Heart

Britney Spears vs Madonna – 4 Minutes To Break The Ice

Britney Spears vs Madonna 4 Minutes To Break The Ice mp3Britney Spears vs Madonna 4 Minutes To Break The Ice mp3

Here is a sweet mashup made by Chris over @ Chris-Picks. I was skeptical about the mash-up at first, but once I listened to it, I noticed that it was pretty great.

I guess this is what Britney would sound like if she worked with Timbaland.
