The Best Pop Songs of the 2000s

I was thinking about this a lot the other night, and I think its time to being the great debate of the Best Pop Song of the 00s over to PMA. Before everyone starts mouthing off some obscure Scandinavian pop songs, here are a few rules.

1. The song had to have achieved notoriety from 2000-present.
2. It pains me to say this, but the song has to have been a nationwide (or worldwide) hit. The bigger, the better, in most cases.

Why? Because pop music is supposed to be universal. Everyone is supposed to enjoy it and love it and everyone can’t love something if they’ve never heard it before. Simple as that.

3. Only one song per artist. Pick their best single, if that helps.

I have a few submissions in mind. Read on to find out Continue reading →

Maroon 5’s remix album, Call and Response, is (in concept) very cool. There are various artists remixing M5 songs, with widely differing backgrounds. From Pharell to the Cool Kids; DJ Quik to Deerhoof, you get some serious hip hop credibility fused with indie style. Throw a little Mary J. Blige and Rihanna vocals on top of the already talented pool, and the end result is a surprisingly strong collaboration. Again, in concept- very cool. In practice? Well…

New Maroon 5 – Harder To Breathe (The Cool Kids Remix)

New Maroon 5 Harder To Breathe (The Cool Kids Remix) listen

This the best thing I've seen all day

You guys might not know this, but I’m actually a big, big fan of Maroon 5’s funky sound and “Harder To Breathe” is definitely my favorite M5 song ever (maybe it’s tied with their Rihanna collaboration) and the Cool Kids remixing and even jumping on this track is just insanely excited for a fan like me. Maroon 5’s upcoming remix album Call and Response is really shaping up to be worth buying! I’m really glad that A&M are making an effort to make this remix album interesting.

Oh and a reader left a comment on my Neptunes remixing Maroon 5 post linking to the Mark Ronson & Mary J. Blige remix of “Wake Up Call.” Thanks for that — I also noticed that I already had the track from a few months back, it completely slipped my mind.

Catch both remixes after the jump! Continue reading →

New Maroon 5 – She Will Be Loved (Neptunes Remix)

New Maroon 5 She Will Be Loved (Neptunes Remix) listen

“Pharrell Williams, Of Montreal, Deerhoof, David Banner and Paul Oakenfold are among the disparate names joining forces for the Maroon 5 remix album “Call & Response,” due Dec. 9 via A&M/Octone,” reported Billboard a few weeks ago. The article continued, “also contributing new versions are Swizz Beatz, Mark Ronson, the Roots’ Questlove, Cut Copy, Just Blaze and Tiesto among others.”

We’re finally getting the first taste of Call & Response with the Neptunes (Pharrell Williams) remixing a Maroon 5 classic, “She Will Be Loved”. The Neptunes make “She Will Be Love” sound a lot more RnB that it already was, and maybe that’s a bit too much. But take a look at the tracklisting, there will be some real killers on this album — my anticipated picks in bold!

1. “If I Never See Your Face Again” – Swizz Beats
2. “Wake Up Call” Feat. Mary J Blige – Mark Ronson
3. “Sunday Morning” – Questlove

4. “Makes Me Wonder” – Just Blaze
5. “This Love” – Tricky Stewart
6. “She Will Be Loved” – Pharrell Williams
7. “Shiver” – DJ Quik
8. “Wake Up Call” – David Banner
9. “Harder to Breathe” – Cool Kids
10. “Little Of Your Time” – Bloodshy and Avant
11. “Little Of Your Time” – of Montreal

12. “Goodnight Goodnight” – Deerhoof
13. “Not Falling Apart” – Tiesto
14. “Better That We Break” – Ali Shaheed Muhammad
15. “Secret” – DJ Premier
16. “Woman” – Sam Farrar of Phantom Planet
17. “This Love” – Cut Copy
18. “If I Never See Your Face Again” Feat. Rihanna – Paul Oakenfold

Lets Digest Some Top 40 Radio

Lets Digest Some Top 40 Radio mp3

Its about time we digest some pop radio. Let the hip-hop ringtone, err, song slaughter begin! No, but this is where I try to convince you Top 40 radio ain’t so bad.

The Top 20 has officially bored me, a guy can only take so much of Fergie, Timbaland, and Rihanna. I was certain these tired acts would disappear now that the summer’s over and the REAL music surfaced. I guess I was wrong. One of the only songs that still has me reaching for the volume dial is Maroon 5’s unbelievably catchy “Wake Up Call” sitting neatly at No. 10 between “Crank That” and “Ayo Technology”, naturally.

But in the obscure depths of the list hide some truly marvelous songs. At No. 24, Alicia Keys pledges her indefinite love for a nameless partner over thumping percussion on “No One”. A few spots down, Hollywood Records’ next Plain White T’s the Jonas Brothers crooning over high school heartbreak in the sleek, healthy, teen tune “SOS”. At No. 29, Justin Timberlake enlists Beyonce to help him grab his, count ‘em, sixth Top 40 single, and one of my favorite slow jams of 2007, “Until The End of Time”. And finally to sum up this most polished cut from modern radio, Santana’s new classic “Into The Night”, sung by Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger.

MP3 | Maroon 5 ft. Mary J. Blige – Wake Up Call (Mark Ronson Remix)
MP3 | Alicia Keys ft. Kanye West – No One (Remix)
MP3 | Justin Timberlake ft. Beyonce – Until The End Of Time (Sam 998899s
Sticking Edit)

MP3 | Jonas Brothers – SOS

UPDATE:

A 642-523 or a VCP-310 is not enough for ccda or even mcdst. You need an a+ in your microsoft certification to go ahead with mcse as well as other certifications.

Dayuuum That’s Hot

Dayuuum Thats Hot music

This isn’t really new or relevent in any way but I find myself trippin’ up my car speakers when Keyshia Cole’s newest, “Let It Go”, comes out on KIIS FM. The beat isn’t anything lucrative or inspiring but Keyshia’s voice is so unique and lullying that it makes me love the track. Lil Kim’s one, two, knock-out verse is a great touch. This song also introduces a new catchphrase that will haunt Top 40 radio for a while: “Dayuuum That’s Hot!”, but of course, its not gonna replace “Its Britney, bitch”.

And here are other Top 40 earworms:
