Best Album of 2002 Poll

Best Albums of 00 | 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 | 08 | 09

Continuing in our quest to find the best albums of the 2000s, we look at the greatest albums released in 2002. A very fine year in music. As always, we depend on your votes to help us come closer to our verdict of the best album of the last 10 years, in the mean time, we will outline your favorite and our favorite albums of each year.

For 2002’s list, I turned to the Village Voice and their righteous Pazz & Jop Poll, surveying nearly 700 critics. I also went through a few Year-end lists presented by The Onion’s AV Club.

Please vote for the album you think was the best in 2002. If your choice isn’t on here, we’d love to see it in the comments section (though, we’d appreciate if you’d vote for your favorite on the list anyway). Here are 2002’s finalists:

A. The Streets: Original Pirate Material
B. Coldplay: A Rush Of Blood To The Head
C. Missy Elliott: Under Construction
D. Wilco: Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
E. Beck: Sea Change
F. Sigur Rós: ()
G. The Roots: Phrenology
H. Queens of the Stone Age: Songs for the Deaf
I. Spoon: Kill The Moonlight
J. Iron & Wine: The Creek Drank The Cradle

Best Songs of the Decade (2000-2009)

I wasn’t going to do this. Working on the Best Albums of the 2000s was going to be enough work. But after reading through some pretty great lists by Pitchfork, I Guess I’m Floating and Gorilla vs Bear, I was reminded of something very important — although the album is the most vital instrument a musician has at his disposal to get an idea or feeling across to listeners, we can’t undermine the importance of a song. A song gives you small doses of relief, comfort, or what have you, minutes at a time.

I gave a fair amount of thought into this list, but for the most part, I knew how it would turn out. This list is mine and mine alone; I am inviting you to my world where I don’t need to explain myself or answer to anyone. But as always, I encourage you all to leave your thoughts and your personal picks in the comment section.

I would like to end with… well, I can’t really say it better than Connor from IGIF. The last 10 years have been the biggest of my life, especially my life as a music lover, so these next 120 songs are the songs that have shaped and molded me into whoever I am today. That’s as personal as it gets.

Q&A Friday: Which Fourth Quarter Release Are You Most Excited About?

This week’s Q&A Friday is brought to you by Starbucks Chocolate! If you answer the questsion, you are entering yourself to win a Starbucks Chocolate Gift Package! Remember to enter your name and email address in the given fields.

2008’s album sales have been anything but great, despite this year’s big releases, like Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. But, as usual, the fourth quarter of the year is filled with some blockbuster gems. We’ve already seen what affect high-profile, old-school rockers like AC/DC (784,000 sold in first week) and Metallica (sold 490,000 in 3 days) had on the fourth-quarter album charts. It doesnt end there, with releases by Beyonce, The Killers, Kanye West, and Britney Spears this winter, we’re in for one hell of a finale for music in 2008.

Here’s a release guide for the fourth quarter most exciting albums. Continue reading →

New Timbaland ft. T-Pain & Missy Elliott – Talk That Shit

New Timbaland ft. T Pain & Missy Elliott Talk That Shit listen
I guess I posted this track a bit too soon earlier. This is the final product fully equipped with Missy Elliott. I am really feeling “Talk That Shit” — but one thing is still unclear, will “Talk That” be on Timbaland’s Shock Value 2 or Missy Elliott’s Block Party, or maybe even T-Pain’s Thr33 Rings.

As Musicology pointed out, Missy has two verses on the track indicating that the song may appear on her upcoming album. Listen to the track below: Continue reading →

New Music – Best Best (Part 2)

New Music Best Best (Part 2) mp3

Here’s the alternate part to Missy Elliott’s Best Best” produced by Mikey Bo. It’s okay, but I’m definitely not feeling this one at all. I think the original is better, this part sounds too remixed.

New Music – Best Best

New Music Best Best mp3

Missy Elliott is recording her 7th album, and here is the first single from it, titled “Best Best“. It’s a really cool track, the verses sound awesome with the use of repeating the last word in each line. It’s a slower and softer track compared to some of her other stuff that she’s done.

New Music – Bad Girl (feat. Missy Elliott)

New Music Bad Girl (feat. Missy Elliott) mp3

Danity Kane’s 2nd single from their sophomore album, “Welcome To The Dollhouse” has now been confirmed to be “Bad GIrl” featuring Missy Elliott. I think it’s a good choice, but I thought it was going to be Pretty Boy.

New Music: 5 New Janet Jackson Tracks

New Music: 5 New Janet Jackson Tracks mp3

One of the hottest pop & R&B stars, Janet Jackson, is releasing her 10th Studio Album, Discipline, on February 26th. 5 tracks have been leaked earlier today, titled “2Nite”, “The 1″, “So Much Betta”, “Rollercoaster”, and “Greatest X”. I posted a clip of “2Nite” a couple of days ago and the full version is way better, with a catchy tune you won’t get out of your head. Missy Elliott is featured in “The 1″ a song with a slower beat. “So Much Betta” is a cool and catchy song with the lyrics ‘Tired Of Being #2/ I Can Do What She Can’t Do/ So Much Betta _______/ I’m For You’. In “Rollercoaster“, Janet is singing how this guy is making her love go up and down on a rollercoaster. A great song if you want to listen to something different. However, if you’re a sucker for slower songs, “Greatest X” is perfect for you. It’s a slower-tempo song with great lyrics.
