MSTRKRFT – Heartbreaker (ft. John Legend)

MSTRKRFT Heartbreaker (ft. John Legend) listen
“Heartbreaker” is MSTRKRFT’s newest single from their Fist of God album. Featuring vocals by the very talented John Legend, “Heartbreaker” is an instant highlight on the album.

A highlight it may be, but by the song’s end, “Heartbreaker” is still a bit stale and monotonous. This sounds a lot less like a MSTRKRFT single and more like MSTRKRFT’s attempt at remixing John Legend. Continue reading →

MSTRKRFT – Fist of God Album Review

MSTRKRFT – Fist of God Album Review album reviews reviews 2
[rating:55/100]

Make sure to catch MP3-freebie, “Click Click” featuring E-40. You’ll find the download within the review

Rest in peace, A, E, I, O and U. Text speak has entered the mainstream. There is no place for vowels in this fast-paced modern world – especially, it seems, in the world of electro house, if Canadian collective MSTRKRFT (“Master-kraft”) is anything to go by. Obviously, Jesse F. Keeler (Death From Above 1979) and producer Al-P (girlsareshort) are prepared to spare the superfluous when it comes to the moniker of their brainchild. It’s just too bad they didn’t take the same particular approach to their latest release, Fist of God, which somehow manages to be mediocre, despite boasting some impressive guest spots. New MSTRKRFT and Simian Mobile Disco

New MSTRKRFT and Simian Mobile Disco listen

MSTRKRFT – Click Click (ft. E-40)

Last year, “Vuvuvu” and “Bounce” had MSTRKRFT fans aching for the rest of the new album. This MSTRKFRT has listened to the album and is sort of disappointed. Fist of God may not be what I hoped it would be, but it’s not bad by any means. It still has some bangers in there. “Click Click” is a great proof of that. I could have done without the E-40 feature, or maybe E could have just picked it up a bit. But at the end of the day, “Click Click” and the rest of Fist of God will make for hot, sweaty fun on the floor. Continue reading →

Q&A Friday: Coachella. Giving Away Merriweather Post Pavilion on Vinyl.

Saw this at about 4am this morning. Was too tired to post it up then, so here you have it!

Q&A Friday: Coachella. Giving Away Merriweather Post Pavilion on Vinyl. giveaways

That is a fantastic lineup! I think I like it better than last year. Saturday is going to be AMAZING — Killers, Amy Winehouse, TV On The Radio, Fleet Foxes, MSTRKRFT! If I had to choose only one, that would be the day.

Do you guys have your tickets? I don’t. Wish me luck on nabbing 3-day passes before they sell out. What are your thoughts on the lineup? Everyone seems to be raving about it so far.

Anyway, so this week’s question is another easy one: Who are you most excited to see at Coachella (in person, or via AT&T’s Blue Room magic)? And if you’re feeling dirty: Do you not like the lineup? Who’s missing?

And this is the first time we don’t have a sponsor for a Q&A Friday. Big bummer [sad face]. Ok let me plug this real quick, so this doesn’t happen again:

Are you interested in promoting your new product or event in a way that engages thousands of young, savvy, music fans? Email me for more info!

Yeah, that’s how it works, guys. Oh but just because we don’t have a sponsor this time doesn’t mean I’m not giving anything away! I’m expecting a new vinyl order to come in today (it’s my new years resolution to collect as much vinyl as I can), and I’m going to have an extra copy of Merriweather Post Pavilion gathering dust, so I’m going to give it away here.

MSTRKRFT – Bounce (A-Trak Remix)

MSTRKRFT Bounce (A Trak Remix) mp3

Ah, the long awaited “Bounce” remix by DJ A-Trak has finally hit the internet. It seems people were generally split between love and hate when MSTRKFT’s “Bounce” first it the web. I really wouldn’t say I hated it — but I really wasn’t impressed at all. The first few remixes of “Bounce” weren’t so bad, but A-Trak definitely takes the cake. Continue reading →

John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (MSTRKRFT Remix)

MSTRKFRT
Before this remix, I didn’t even know John Legend and Andre 3K had collaborated. I’m glad I caught wind of this joint! Remix or not, “Green Light” is a fantastic song! For a very long time, I have thought that Andre 3000 is one of the best MCs in the game today. All I’m waiting for is another fantastic, hard-hitting, non-soundtrack Outkast album.

Also, MSTRKRFT are really getting themselves around in the whole popish urban scene aren’t they? I really loved their Usher “Love In This Club” remix and their Kylie Minogue “Wow” remix. I wasn’t a huge fan of their Jesse McCartney “Leavin’” remix though. Their next pop music conquest? It better be Rihanna’s phantasmagoric new single “Disturbia”, or maybe Ne-Yo’s equally fantastic “Closer”. That would really, really make me happy.

John Legend and Andre 3000 – Green Light (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Usher – Love In This Club (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Kylie – Wow (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Jesse McCartney – Leavin’ (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Rihanna – Disturbia (MSTRKRFT Remix) Please?
Ne-Yo – Closer (MSTRKRFT Remix) Or This One?

PMA Gotta Love The BPM Podcast #1 August 2008 listen

I’ve kept this blog up through some tough times and it will keep on coming — now with a monthly podcast! I’ve wanted to do a Pretty Much Amazing podcast for quite a while now, but I’ve wanted it to be different than all the other podcasts. So what’s a blog to do? Pretty Much Amazing hooked up with Just Jace — a SICK DJ from Omaha, NE to create Gotta Love The BPM. In a sense the PMA Podcast is more like a series of mini DJ sets. Well I’m going to stop trying to sell this thing to you, so on to the first Pretty Much Amazing Podcast! Download away.
