N.A.S.A. – Strange Enough (ft. Karen O, Ol’ Dirty Bastard & Fatlip) (Mr. Oizo Remix)

N.A.S.A. Strange Enough (ft. Karen O, Ol Dirty Bastard & Fatlip) (Mr. Oizo Remix) mp3
When I first heard Mr. Oizo’s remix of N.A.S.A.’s “Strange Enough,” I was a bit disappointed with the way his cuts seemed to delude Karen O’s fantastic hook on the song. By the second time around, Karen O’s hook felt deluded no longer — in fact, Mr. Oizo’s synth chops felt warm and joyous.

Indeed, it’s the choppy synth that really makes this remix shine. Only at first do they sound a bit awkward and ill-timed and it goes without saying that the discombobulation dies there. Mr. Oizo has always been a ball of fun and he has made this N.A.S.A. fan proud. Listen to his remix here Continue reading →

N.A.S.A. – Gifted ft. Kanye West, Santigold & Lykke Li (Steve Aoki Remix)

N.A.S.A. Gifted ft. Kanye West, Santigold & Lykke Li (Steve Aoki Remix) mp3
Much love for Steve Aoki, especially for his last remixes. He has already remixed one of my favorite singles of 08/09, “Spaceman” and now he’s here to sink his teeth into N.A.S.A. glorious debut single, “Gifted” featuring Kanye West, Santigold and Lykke Li.

His remix of “Gifted” is an erratic ode to Steve Aoki’s excellent live turntablism. If you’ve been to one of his sets, you can close your eyes and see yourself back at the show. And if you haven’t been to one of his shows, you’ve got yourself an excellent, fist-pumpin’, get-your-ass-on-the-door remix to jam to this weekend. Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day, part 3: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (N.A.S.A. Bloody Lobo Remix)

Because we are focusing more on upcoming musical releases around here, new remixes get the short end of the PMA stick, sadly. I am determined to devote one post a day on new remixes, instead of bunching 10+ remixes in bulk. That has become somewhat tacky. Click here to read all of our Remix-A-Day remixes.

Remix A Day, part 3: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Zero (N.A.S.A. Bloody Lobo Remix) mp3
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are really hitting hard with this whole “Zero” Remixes thing they have going on. A little while ago, MSTRKRFT remixed It’z Blitz‘ first single and now N.A.S.A. have dipped into the game. We have yet to hear Animal Collective’s remix of “Zero,” and we hope it’s better than this. Not that N.A.S.A.’s remix is bad; it’s definitely a major improvement on MSTRKRFT’s hot mess.

This remix really showcases N.A.S.A.’s abilities as pop producers. With only some exceptions, their album, The Spirit of Apollo, was a nod to hip hop. On rare occasions, like this remix or “Gifted,” we can see N.A.S.A.’s impeccable ear for pop-dance tunes. It almost makes you crave a N.A.S.A. production credit on Britney Spears’ next album. The Absolute Best Songs of 2009 (.25 of the way through)

Today is the 91st day of 2009, or (almost) exactly one quarter of the way through 2009. Is it too soon to start thinking of “Best Songs” honors? I don’t think so!

Before I get into the list, I want to set up some ground rules: The only songs eligible are songs that were released as singles in 2009 (Jan 1st – March 31st, in this case). This will really limit this initial list, as some of my favorite songs of the year have been non-single album tracks, like “Summertime Clothes” by Animal Collective, or “Dull Life” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Well, actually, I think that’s the only rule.

Let’s get on to the list, shall we? Continue reading →

Britney Spears “Circus” Officially Remixed + N.A.S.A., Mr. Oizo too

Britney Spears Circus Officially Remixed + N.A.S.A., Mr. Oizo too listen

Britney Spears – Circus (Villains Remix) / N.A.S.A. feat. M.I.A., Santogold, and Spankrock – Whatchadoin (Villains Remix)

I guess those remixes Diplo made for Britney’s “Circus” weren’t as officially as they were rumored to be. I guess it works out for the best — Villains’ remix of “Circus” is much more Saturday-Night-radio friendly and would fill up any dancefloor in a second. I’m definitely putting this one into my next party mix. While I’m at it, maybe I should add Villains remix of N.A.S.A.’s “Whatchudoin?” Listen to both after the jump Continue reading →

Oh No They Didn’t! Pitchfork gives N.A.S.A. a 1.6

Oh No They Didnt! Pitchfork gives N.A.S.A. a 1.6 interesting reads

Come on, Pitchfork. As Seth Myers would say, really?

Debate N.A.S.A.’s debut album, The Spirit of Apollo, all you want, but not even the harshest critics would go as low as a 1.6 for this PMA fave. To me, this is just another “statement review” that Pitchfork feels the need to make due to N.A.S.A.’s extremely positive buzz. But that’s just my opinion- maybe writer Tom Breihan just really hated the album. Give your thoughts on Pitchfork’s review in the comments. Click on for Tom Breihan’s harsh final paragraph.
