N.E.R.D. – Soldier (ft. Santigold)

The boys of N.E.R.D. are back with their forthcoming album Instant Gratification. “Solider” — featuring Santigold — is the first possible single from the group’s new album. Pharrell and the boys have not confirmed if it will or will not be on the LP. They have been performing the song live for a while now, but we finally have a studio quality track to gratify our ears.

The single is different from the usual N.E.R.D sound, but still highly enjoyable. It’s rock/punk funky beat grows on you after a few listens (really, give this track a few listens before passing judgment). “Solider” captures the fact that N.E.R.D. has created their own niche in the music world, straying away from defined genes, which is why they have caught many people’s attention.

The band has a new female singer, Rhea, bringing a new light to their sound and growing excitement towards the upcoming album. Instant Gratification is due out in sometime in 2010. Listen to “Soldier” below: Continue reading →

Clipse x N.E.R.D. – I’m Good

“I’m Good” (featuring Pharrell and production by the Neptunes) is the new single from Clipse’s upcoming record Til The Casket Drops which is out in September. This is far from bad, but is it memorable? Hardly. It is nowhere near as good as Til The Casket Drops‘ first single, “Kinda Like A Big Deal” featuring KanYeezy. Let’s bring that out. While the entire American college-attending population was enjoying their spring break, N*E*R*D and Santigold put on a show in Panama City, Florida for MTV. Together the two buzzin’ acts performed a lively new song called “Soldier.” The song is drenched in exciting, fast-paced percussion and bouncy, jamming bass and Santigold absolutely KILLS it on the hook. It’s Sunday and I’m sort of bummed. Bummed because I can’t go here anymore and download wicked remixes every Sunday afternoon. I’m sure many people here feel the same way, so here’s to keeping the seat warm until Palm’s Out moves over to wordpress!

New Bloc Party, N.E.R.D. (+Santogold, ~The Strokes), Beck, and Death Cab Videos

Bloc Party have certainly proven that whenever they decide to drop a random single, the world listens (see:Flux, Mercury). Their latest hype-endeavor and second nudge at a new album, “Mercury” has successfully made its way into the front page of most of the music blogs out there (the ones I read anyway) — and don’t think it’s gonna stop, I have a feeling the band will announce a new album pretty soon. The video for “Mercury” was synonymously released with the single (I just waited to post it until I had enough videos that caught my attention to post about).

With all the hype surrounding this song, the inevitable has happened: plagiarism accusations. Hypeful has pointed out that This Just Happened pointed out (gotta love trackbacks) that “Mercury” bared “a striking resemblance” to “Shock The Monkeyâ€, by Peter Gabriel. Was Bloc Party inspired by a Monkey?

About a month or so ago Pharrell Williams, Santogold, and Julian Casablancas (of Strokes fame) recorded “My Drive Thru” for Converse’ 100 Year Chuck Taylor celebration. Now the music video dropped, and its friggin fantastic. Watch. ’nuff said.

I am thoroughly enjoying Beck’s Danger Mouse produced Modern Guilt, I have failed to post anything about it because of specific server issues, but I have already shared my love for “Orphans”, and now first single “Gamma Ray” has a video for all to watch. The video itself is stellar and fits the song like a glove.
