Atlas Sound x Panda Bear – Walkabout

It goes without saying that when artists like Atlas Sound and Panda Bear come together and create music, it’s going to be mind bendingly magnificent. “Walkabout” sounds exactly like you think it would sound like: unlike anything you could have ever imagined. The song is buoyant and electronic. The imaginative production and stellar harmonies rival those so perfectly executed on Merriweather Post Pavilion (which happens to be another product of Panda Bear).
“Walkabout” will definitely be on my mind when the time comes to update my list of favorite songs of the year. Listen to it here. Continue reading →

Panda Bear, Burial & Grouper Remixes by Phaseone

Props to Gorilla vs Bear from shining some light on St. Louis’ Phaseone. Phaseone’s heavy, menacing vibes remind us of Burial (ironically), Boxcutter and Daedelus. Now, I’ve only heard three of Phaseone’s remixes, but so far, they’ve been stunning. This guy might be onto something great. I’ll keep you posted.
For now, I have three beautiful remixes to share. The first is a masterful rework of Panda Bear’s glorious “I’m Not” (speaking of Panda Bear, have you listened to Merriweather Post Pavilion? Ohmygod). The second is a remix of Burial’s 2007 masterpiece, “Archangel.” The last one is a remix of “Heavy Water” by the sadly underrated (even by PMA) Grouper.

New Panda Bear – Boneless (Notwist Remix)

Here we have a new Panda Bear track called “Boneless” — no not really. Panda Bear remixed the Notwist’s already fantastic “Boneless” but with it’s chops and edits, the remix has been rendered unrecognizable. This new remix bares little (if any) ressemblance to the original, so we can easily call it a new Panda Bear song ala iGIF.Â
Check out this medium quality webrip of this new Panda Bear track / Notwist remix below — if you wan’t the real thing, you can dish out the cash for a 7″ here. Continue reading →

You Oughtta Know: The Dodos

The Dodos are a two-piece band out of San Fransisco, California, who create beautiful, hypnotizing songs and beats. The hooks are catchy and memorable, and the sound is different and unique. The band tends to clash styles of bands we’ve heard before and turn them into something fresh- you can’t help but think of Band of Horses, Panda Bear, and Animal Collective when you are listening to the Dodos. Still, I’m not a huge fan of Panda Bear or Animal Collective, but still find myself transfixed by this new band’s songs. Their cd, Visiter, has received tons of praise, notably from Pitchfork, and is available now.
You can check out a few songs (my personal favorite is “Fools”) and tour dates on their MYSPACE.
Then comment on what you think of this new “buzz band!”

Breaking: Panda Bear remixed by XXXChange!
Panda Bear approached the release of his 2007 solo album, Person Pitch, like a dance album, with almost all of its tracks being released as vinyl singles leading up to the album’s release. Now Panda has given the album’s lead track “Comfy in Nautica” to XXXChange (SpankRock, Kid Sister, Amanda Blank) to actually make it into a full-on dance floor smash.
