Music From Gossip Girl: Season 3, Episode 7

Music From Gossip Girl: Season 3, Episode 7 musicSo I didn’t do a Music From Gossip Girl post last week because I didn’t really like last week’s episode nor its music selection. This week’s episode was a lot better, and Alex Pastavas threw in a tune by one of my favorite new (and broken-up :( ) bands, the Harlem Shakes. Last night’s episode also featured tunes by the ever-impressive Delta Spirit.

Make sure to read this week’s recap over at the delicious Daily Intel @ NY Mag, but before you do, check out this week’s Gossip Girl playlist.

pmaCAST #14: Yes, I Love Fred Falke Remixes

pmaCAST #13 The Twist on Natural Law Episode mp3

DOWNLOAD: MP3 / iTUNES

And here is the fourteenth installment of the pmaCAST, a bi-monthly playlist that I hope will enrich and soundtrack your week. This week I went with a digital vibe that I have been shaking off for a while now. It has caught up with me, and has now permeated through the pmaCAST. I use some all-time favorites (Belle & Sebastien, LCD Soundsystem, Roisin Murphy, Daft Punk, Peaches) as well as some new-found loves (Fred Falke, obiously, everyone else).

I’m not going to upload and post up all of the tracks like I did last time, but I will put up a few tracks featured on this weeks’ playlist that I think will make your life a lot less sucky.

Ratatat – Lex
MEN – Credit Card Babie$
The Pragmatic – You Blame Me
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Push The Envelope

Please (HEART) these songs if you enjoyed them!

Most Listened To…, Week Ending 5/30/2009

Most Listened To..., Week Ending 5/30/2009 feature

If you’re anything like me, you are a tiny bit obsessive compulsive when it comes to charts and numbers (and iTunes organization, album art work, et al). If you’re anything like me, you will agree with me when I say that cutting-edge innovations like FixTunes (they created a discount code for any readers that would like to purchase FixTunes. It’ll give you $5 off the purchase price. Discount code: D3968) and Last.fm are utterly indispensable and essential.

I look at my Last.fm stats often and connect every music outlet I use to my account. I starting using the account in December of 2008, despite opening it in October of 2007. Since December, I’ve made to make every listen count, whether it be on my iPod, iPhone, at home, or in the car. As you might have already guessed, almost every moment in my life is attached to some sort of group of songs. I want document each week’s listening achievements. Take this journey with me.

This last week was obviously not spent listening to music non-stop. Blame Memorial Day Weekend, too little work (I thoroughly enjoy putting work off by listening to my favorite tunes), and having a little bit too much fun. Nevertheless, I have nothing to be ashamed of. Brill new releases by Passion Pit (237 plays), Phoenix (146 plays),  and Grizzly Bear (185 plays) are among my most listened to albums of the week, though I will admit that most of these listens are due to my incessant need to put certain songs on repeat! Case and point –  Continue reading →

Daft Punk Remix Album To Be Released May 20

Daft Punk Remix Album To Be Released May 20 mp3
What’s this? I got this in the mail today…

What started as a vague idea planted as a seed into the minds of a few individuals has now sprouted into a full-blown project ignoring geographical borders and cultural differences through an internet-based cooperation between a group of influential music blogs who set their minds on creating a remix album for Daft Punk’s infamous third album Human After All (2005). The idea was born from the sense that the official but strictly limited remix compilation Human After All: Remixes (2006), which was only available for Japanese consumers, did not completely satisfy fans of the band and remix aficionados. Therefore we are now proud to present:

Remix After All

Peaches x Simian Mobile Disco – Talk To Me / More

Peaches x Simian Mobile Disco Talk To Me / More listen

Peaches – Talk To Me

[rating:78/100]
“Why Don’t You Talk To Me?” shrieks Peaches over a Simian Mobile Disco produced beat. The Canadian-native is notoriously known for embracing and popularizing buzz words like “hermaphrodite envy” and “fatherfucker” and for teaching us to “Fuck The Pain Away.” While the record doesn’t provide for a juicy installment to the Peaches vernacular, Nisker has effectively recorded my favorite new single of the Spring. With “Talk To Me,” Peaches ventures into the world of modern electro-lady pop, or defining it, I should say. Peaches’ powerful, heart-wrenching vocals pierce right through what is one of SMD’s most reverent and solid productions to date. By the sounds of Little Boots’ latest demos, “Talk To Me” is the sound she is trying so hard to master. Little Boots might have to step aside because Peaches is back with what is shaping up to be one hell of an album on May 4th overseas. It’s called I Feel Cream and it’s going to shake things up. Listen to it below: Continue reading →

pmaCAST #8 The “Gimme That Hot, Hot Love” Episode

pmaCAST #8 The Gimme That Hot, Hot Love Episode mp3

Radiohead opens up this week’s podcast with a double introduction. Three Leaves and a Head’s remix of “Reckoner” is a marvelous set of lulling, dramatic pianos and snaps. It leads in stealthily to In Rainbows‘ crackling and GRAMMY-famous “15 Step.” Regina Spektor follows Radiohead with an early demo of the beautiful “Samson.” This song is easily my favorite song off her album, Begin To Hope. From an established pop elite to a poppy act that has plenty of potential, I proudly play Asteroid Galaxy Tour’s “Around The Bend.”

If you listen closely, you’ll notice that this episode’s title is derived from “Around The Bend.” It’s just a great song. From here on, things get a bit heavier, you’ll notice I continue/close the pmaCAST with a handful of remixes. This podcast couldn’t be possible without RCRD LBL and Notes From A Different Kitchen who so graciously provided us with tracks that were vital to this podcast.

Radiohead – Reckoner (Three Leaves and a Head Remix)

New MGMT vs. Soulwax vs. Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs. Peaches

New MGMT vs. Soulwax vs. Yeah Yeah Yeahs vs. Peaches mp3

Yeah, I know everyone is up to here with all these MGMT remixes and covers going around in some type of endless cycle, but this was just too good to ignore! Shout out to am.fm.pm for this joint, which according to them, is only a couple weeks old. Unbeknownst to Pretty Much Amazing, DJ/Producer Eve Massacre has, apparently, been killing the scene since day one. Maybe with a little more publicity, she can become the next mini blog-phenom, not unlike Immuzikation.

Take a listen to “Fuck the Kids” below: Continue reading →

Proving Electronic Music Makes You Happy (vol. 1)

Proving Electronic Music Makes You Happy (vol. 1) mp3

Happiness is just a chemical balance somewhere in your brain, right? Right. Well I am completely convinced that Electronica creates a chemical imbalance in your brain, causing extreme happiness — a state of ecstasy even. This new series is closely related to my “Proving That Pop-Punk Makes You Happy” series, if you fail to see that, well frankly, you’re an idiot.
