Radiohead Internet Drama

Read all about it @ Rawkblog.

I’m a huge Radiohead fan, but I’m tired of their games, to be honest. But like I said before… as long as they keep leaking new music, I can’t really complain.

Radiohead – These Are My Twisted Words

Radiohead These Are My Twisted Words listen

Hmm, Stereogum posted up another new Radiohead song. This one’s called “These Are My Twisted Words.”

Can’t tell you how bent I am over Radiohead’s decision to not make any new albums, but release singular songs, or unstructured EPs. But if this means that we get a new Radiohead song every week, I might not mind all that much.

I must note that neither of the new songs stand out very much in a year full of great music, and especially not in Radiohead’s own discography. Nonetheless, “Harry Patch” and “These Are My Twisted Words” are definitely worth a listen. Continue reading →

Radiohead – Harry Patch (In Memory Of)

Radiohead – Harry Patch (In Memory Of) listen
I could honestly care less about Harry Patch, the last living UK World War 1 Veteran (damn, man), but now that Radiohead made a song in his honor, I feel like I love the guy. Making it even more special, “Harry Patch (In Memory Of)” holds the first beautiful minutes of recorded post-In Rainbows material for Radiohead. It’s string-laden and slow. I could only hope someone records something like this when I die.

Listen to it here, and buy it at Waste. It’s for a worthy cause, not one I particularly care about, but I’m sure its worthy in some way. Continue reading →

Radiohead – Wonderwall (Oasis Cover)

Radiohead Wonderwall (Oasis Cover) covers
Those of us that grew up in the brief era when Oasis was the shit and Wonderwall plagued the airwaves, might find this brief parody a little offensive. Especially when Thom Yorke seems to forget the lyrics and begins to mumble almost incomprehensibly.

But hey, it’s Radiohead, so I guess it makes it ok. They might be one of a very select few bands that can get away with covering, and simultaneously ‘taking a piss’ (as our English friends would say) on such a 90’s classic. Much thanks to WAWSTSF for unearthing it for us. Continue reading →

Best Albums of 2000 Poll

As you know, I like lists. All kinds of lists. But my favorite are musically inclined lists. The end of the decade is approaching rather quickly, and with lists on my mind, I’ve been thinking about something I think a you all ought to be thinking about. The best albums of the 2000s. What were the first great albums of this millennium? Jeff Lind is down for the task of finding out. But he won’t do it alone.

From now up until late December, we will try to figure out what have been the best albums of the 00s, by year. This will amount to a total of 10 albums, one from each year, to keep things even. This is how it will work — for each year, Jeff and I will pick one album as our favorite, but we will also hold a poll for you all to vote on to find the PMA Readers’ choice for best album. Hopefully we will decide on two distinct albums to remember that given year.

We will be starting off with the year 2000. I have drawn up a list of 10 albums released in the year 2000 (in the US). This list was derived from various year-end lists from publications like: Village Voice Pazz & Jop Poll, Pitchfork, Mojo and Metacritic. Please select the album you think was the best in 2000. If your choice isn’t on here, we’d love to see it in the comments section (though, we’d appreciate if you’d vote for your favorite on the list anyway).

A. OutKast – Stankonia
B. Radiohead – Kid A
C. Modest Mouse – The Moon And Antarctica
D. Yo La Tengo – And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out
E. Eminem – The Marshall Mathers LP
F. PJ Harvey – Stories From The City, Stories From The Sea
G. The New Pornographers – Mass Romantic
H. Primal Scream – XTRMNTR
I. Aimee Mann – Bachelor No. 2
J. Sleater-Kinney – All Hands On The Bad One

Dozens of your favorite music artists have banded together to help Mark Mulcahy (former Miracle Legion front man) continue to make music while raising his 3-year-old twins, after the tragic death of his wife. Artists like Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, and The National are contributing covers of songs written by Mulcahy in the compilation Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs of Mark Mulcahy which is out 9/29. Stereogum reports that “An additional 20 tracks from folks like A.C. Newman, Buffalo Tom and Laura Veirs will be released digitally. Also expect concerts to coincide with the release. Max Tannone: Jaydiohead (Jay-Z x Radiohead) – The Encore

Max Tannone: Jaydiohead (Jay Z x Radiohead) The Encore favorite songs
Talented producer Max Tannone (formerly known as Minty Fresh Beats), who was responsible for the critically acclaimed Jay-Z/Radiohead mash-up album Jaydiohead, has returned with an encore. This five-song encore, once again, finds two of the most prolific artists of our time clashing note by note, in utterly beautiful symmetry.

Is it just me, or does Jaydiohead + The Encore need mass market exposure, a la Collision Course? Hopefully not.

1. Jaydiohead – Air Roc
2. Jaydiohead – Life There
3. Jaydiohead – Reckoner’s Encore
4. Jaydiohead – Song and Cry
5. Jaydiohead – December Backdrifts

As you might have already guessed, almost every moment in my life is attached to some sort of group of songs. I want document each week’s listening achievements. Take this journey with me.
