Honestly, I didn’t expect anything this fresh from Kid CuDi. Personal expectations for his debut Man On The Moon: The End Of Day were low. I wrote him off as just another blog fad, riding the electro wave to its crash with the Crookers remix of megahit ‘Day N Nite’, and overshadowed by a star-studded guest list and production on ‘Make Her Say’ without proving anything about his own artistic merit – of which I believed he had none. His flow was too awkward, too much of a pale imitation of his producer and mentor, Kanye West (and we all know by now the world only needs one Kanye West). But after giving the album a solid listen and more, the music has spoken and I’ve had a change of heart: CuDi is for real. Continue reading →

Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness (ft. MGMT & RATATAT)

Kid Cudi Pursuit of Happiness (ft. MGMT & RATATAT) listen

Kid Cudi has been burning up everybody’s radar since his exceptional mixtape hit the web last summer. His chart-topping single, “Day N Nite” has catapulted Kid Cudi to superstardom. Expectations for his debut album, Man on the Moon: The End of Day, were reaching monumental levels at this point.

Because of his affiliation with hip-hop genius Kanye West, we all (I included) came to expect a 2009 College Dropout from Kid Cudi. Not surprisingly, the album leaked before its September 15th release date, and after a handful of listens (4 so far), it misses the bar set by Kanye’s debut album. Man On The Moon is on a whole other playing field, setting up bars of its own. A bar that fellow newcomers Wale and Drake now must meet, and to be frank, a bar they probably cannot hang onto with the longevity proposed by Man on the Moon.

The third official single off the record, “Pursuit of Happiness,” was produced by electronic duo Ratatat and features Brooklyn superheroes MGMT. The beat is smooth and slick — props Ratatat. It wraps itself nicely around Kid Cudi’s painstaking lyrics and MGMT’s subdued vocal contributions.

Man on the Moon: The End of Day is out September 15th and a deluxe edition with a DVD will also be released. Catch Ratatat and Cudi performing “Pursuit of Happiness” on “The Late Night Show With David Letterman” tomorrow (Tuesday). Listen to the track here: Continue reading →

pmaCAST #14: Yes, I Love Fred Falke Remixes

pmaCAST #13 The Twist on Natural Law Episode mp3

DOWNLOAD: MP3 / iTUNES

And here is the fourteenth installment of the pmaCAST, a bi-monthly playlist that I hope will enrich and soundtrack your week. This week I went with a digital vibe that I have been shaking off for a while now. It has caught up with me, and has now permeated through the pmaCAST. I use some all-time favorites (Belle & Sebastien, LCD Soundsystem, Roisin Murphy, Daft Punk, Peaches) as well as some new-found loves (Fred Falke, obiously, everyone else).

I’m not going to upload and post up all of the tracks like I did last time, but I will put up a few tracks featured on this weeks’ playlist that I think will make your life a lot less sucky.

Ratatat – Lex
MEN – Credit Card Babie$
The Pragmatic – You Blame Me
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Push The Envelope

Please (HEART) these songs if you enjoyed them!

Read on for the full tracklist. Continue reading →

Ratatat – Mirando (Animal Collective Remix)

Ratatat Mirando (Animal Collective Remix) mp3

Fuck yeah! Much love to GvsB for throwing the mp3 of this one around. Apparently, word of this epic mix was heard a while back (probably when “Mirando” was still relevent), but AC was caught up with the whole creating the best album of 2009 and related responsibilities. But now it’s here, ready for it’s Hype Machine fame. All of these DJs are probably prepping their “My Girls” remixes right now, but here is AC showing you  how it’s done. This is a 10-minute monster.

Grab it in its vinyl-tastic form: the 12″ version will be released on XL; order it here. Grab the mp3 version below Continue reading →

Blog Wars: The Genius Playlist | Round 1, Battle 3

On Sunday The Music Slut and We All Want Someone To Shout For were both on the hot seat. It was a close one.  It started out with We All Want ahead by less than 5% and then things switched over to the Music Slut’s favor and sometime between then and now, things were tied 50/50 and We All Want Someone jump ahead by 8%. With 54% of the votes, We All Want Someone to Shout For moves ahead. Sorry Music Slut, you won’t make the second round of  this Blog War.

On this third battle, Ear Farm and The Culture of Me are taking on Lil Wayne’s “Dr. Carter.” I have a feeling we’re about to see two really ghetto playlists.

Some Remixes on a Sunday

Some Remixes on a Sunday listen

flickr.com/yeahyeahwhatever

It’s Sunday and I’m sort of bummed. Bummed because I can’t go here anymore and download wicked remixes every Sunday afternoon. I’m sure many people here feel the same way, so here’s to keeping the seat warm until Palm’s Out moves over to wordpress!

PS: Wordpress is THE shit. And if you’re still on blogger, go die you need to move your butt over to Wordpress ASAP. You don’t have a single excuse. Hosting is CHEAP (~$10/month) and a domain is even CHEAPER (~10/year). Why are you still on Nazi-Blogger?? While you’re thinking this over, here are some remixes I’ve been feeling lately. Hello and welcome to the first ever Blog Wars hosted by Pretty Much Amazing! This is the first of hopefully many Blog Wars to come. Here is the complete list of participating blogs:
