Remix-A-Day: U2 – Magnificent (Fred Falke Remix)

Because we are focusing more on upcoming musical releases around here, new remixes get the short end of the PMA stick, sadly. I am determined to devote one post a day on new remixes, instead of bunching 10+ remixes in bulk. That has become somewhat tacky. Click here to read all of our Remix-A-Day remixes.

Remix A Day: U2 Magnificent (Fred Falke Remix) mp3
Stellar remixes for U2 by bloghaus names. Here is Justice remixing “Get On Your Boots,” and look out for RAC’s remix of “Magnificent” soon.

Remix-A-Day, part 3: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (N.A.S.A. Bloody Lobo Remix)

Remix A Day, part 3: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Zero (N.A.S.A. Bloody Lobo Remix) mp3
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are really hitting hard with this whole “Zero” Remixes thing they have going on. A little while ago, MSTRKRFT remixed It’z Blitz‘ first single and now N.A.S.A. have dipped into the game. We have yet to hear Animal Collective’s remix of “Zero,” and we hope it’s better than this. Not that N.A.S.A.’s remix is bad; it’s definitely a major improvement on MSTRKRFT’s hot mess.

This remix really showcases N.A.S.A.’s abilities as pop producers. With only some exceptions, their album, The Spirit of Apollo, was a nod to hip hop. On rare occasions, like this remix or “Gifted,” we can see N.A.S.A.’s impeccable ear for pop-dance tunes. It almost makes you crave a N.A.S.A. production credit on Britney Spears’ next album. Remix-A-Day, part 2: DOOM – Gazillion Ear (Thom Yorke Remix)

If you haven’t heard DOOM’s new album, you are certainly missing out. “Gazillion Ear” was always one of my favorite DOOM tracks, and Thom Yorke transforming it into what could easily be Radiohead’s most experimental b-side ever. It’s a marvelous remix, even if it does sound like it was made for Radiohead’s upcoming LP — I have found that emcees doing their thing over Radiohead works quite well. Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day: Lady Gaga – Poker Face (Pete Rock Remix)

Remix A Day: Lady Gaga Poker Face (Pete Rock Remix) mp3
Hip Hop legend Pete Rock, who has worked with the likes of A Tribe Called Quest, the Roots, and Mary J. Blidge, has decided to remix pop’s history-making newbie superstar. Pete turned Lady GaGa’s synth-licking “Poker Face” into an instant 80’s throwback. GaGa fans will probably hate this, Pete Rock fans will appreciate this. I am stuck somewhere in between. Remix A Day: Lykke Li Little Bit (Villains Remix) mp3

This is Sexy Friday treat indeed.

The Villains, who have been KILLING it lately, have finally remixed Lykke Li’s “Little Bit.” The song has already seen many great remixes in the past from Death To The Throne, Gigamesh, CSS, and Loving Hand and now it’s time to add Villains to the list. I guarentee that this one will be playing everywhere this weekend.

Previously remixed by Villains: Britney Spears’ “Circus” and Bloc Party’s “Ares.” Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day: Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero (MSTRKRFT Remix)

This song is not yet cleared for download, but you can stream it below, thanks to IMEEM and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Earlier today we reviewed MSTRKRFT’s album, Fist of God, and gave it a middle-of-the-road 5 and a half bulb rating. Needless to say, we weren’t very impressed with the new album. The sticky trend continues with their remix of the YYYs’ new single, “Zero” (as if it needs more hype). Sadly, MSTRKRFT keep marketing themselves as the poor man’s Justice. It’s definitely not a good look for the Canadian duo. Hopefully they will shake it off with their future material.

I’ll be up front. I didn’t like this remix much — mostly for the reasons written above, but also because I hear that Animal Collective remixed the same song. Sorry MSTRKRFT, but you just don’t measure up. But before you flick this remix away, take a listen and decide if it you like it Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day: Bat For Lashes – Daniel (Death Metal Disco Scene Remix)

We <3 Bat For Lashes: from 8-bulb glory to hitting the dancefloor

Remix A Day: Bat For Lashes Daniel (Death Metal Disco Scene Remix) mp3You will notice a trend in the remixes that I post up, they are a lot simpler than the big productions you hear a lot. These kinds of remixes are most appreciated when the song in the hot seat is great on its own and needs no remix to validate it. This is the case for Bat For Lashes’ “Daniel” and Death Metal Disco Scene do a wonderful job at crafting an understated and enjoyable remix.

The remix plays heavily with shakers, rattlers, and string arrangements. It also does amazing work accenting Natasha Khan’s voice as well as one of the most memorable piece of lyric in 2009: When I first saw you, I knew that you had a flame in your heart. Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day: The Killers – Spaceman (Steve Aoki & The Bloody Beetroots Remix)

Remix A Day: The Killers Spaceman (Steve Aoki & The Bloody Beetroots Remix) mp3
A remix a day keeps the doctor away, and the doctor lalala-LOVES this remix

I always thought that “Spaceman” was a fantastically danceable second single. Sure, it was Killers danceable, but danceable nonetheless. As enjoyable it was to rock out to “Spaceman,” what Steve Aoki and The Bloody Beetroots have done with it is nothing short of a godsend. Continue reading →
