Last week, She & Him stopped by the BBC and performed a life set that included this gorgeous little number. After gushing over the live version of “Thieves”, my good friends at Pop Librarian and Tsururadio pointed me to the wonderful studio recording.
It isn’t known if this recording of “Thieves” is the final version that we will be listening to on Volume Two, but it’s wholly satisfying nonetheless. Zooey Deschanel (She) and M. Ward (Him) stopped by BBC and played a lovely live session, which included “Thieves” — a brand new track that will appear on She & Him’s forthcoming Volume Two.
Zooey’s hearty and almost choked up vocals sound absolutely wonderful on this live rendition of will most definitely be a standout on their second record. Joanna Newsom will release her highly anticipated follow-up to 2006’s polarizing and gorgeous Ys. Have One On Me will be release February 23rd on Drag City in 3xCD, 3xLP and digitally. I’m still feeling under the weather, but news of She & Him’s Volume Two and the arrival of its first single, “In The Sun” has me feeling better already. Indie darling Zooey Deschanel (She) and M. Ward’s (Him) 2008 collaborative debut, Volume One, was the perfect summer album, and if “In The Sun” is any indication of what the two have in store for us, Volume Two should walk into its predecessor’s footsteps nicely.

Whodathunk that the super cute girl half of She & Him, Zooey Deschanel, was such a cotton advocate? Adorable Zooey (yeah, I love her) lent her voice to Cotton’s The Fabric of My Life campaign. The song is called “Fabric of My Life.” Similiar songs were also recorded by GRAMMY honorees Miranda Lambert and Jazmine Sullivan for the campaign.
While Zooey Deschanel’s song is my favorite, I cannot ignore country vixen Miranda Lambert or Jazmine Sullivan’s Philly soul, for that matter. It’s pretty great that Cotton is embracing 3 extremely diverse rhythms of music and working them into a single campaign. I’ve got to give it up to ad campaign songs in 2009. I’ve got to admit that when I heard that M Ward and that chick from Elf were hooking up to give birth to indie-pop outfit She & Him, I think I died a little inside. Then I heard She & Him’s Volume One. Try and find a better beach, summer-fun album in 2008. You just couldn’t. Zooey Deschanel has since become one of my favorite people — she’s adorable. Her songs are always endearing, always sad, and always hooky; and not a single artless moment is found in M Ward’s clever musical arrangements.
She & Him recently took part in that Sweethearts 09 Valentine’s Day compilation I keep pimping out. I do so for a reason, folks — the compilation is fucking brilliant! Just drop by your local Starbucks (I know you were just there this morning!) and drop the $12.95 for this thing.
