David Byrne & Fatboy Slim “Please Don’t” (feat. Santigold)

David Byrne & Fatboy Slim Please Dont (feat. Santigold) favorite songs

Star songcraftsman David Byrne, who released a beautiful and underrated album with Brian Eno (Everything That Happens Will Happen Today) in 2008, is readying a release with none other than Fatboy Slim. In the introduction of Here Lies Love, Byrne says:

“The story I am interested in is about asking what drives a powerful person—what makes them tick? How do they make and then remake themselves? I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be great if—as this piece would be principally composed of clubby dance music—one could experience it in a club setting? Could one bring a ‘story’ and a kind of theater to the disco? Was that possible? If so, wouldn’t that be [pretty much] amazing!”

The result of this interesting little plot-bunny — a story fit for the opera, translated to the dance floor? A concept album about the life of the first Lady of the Phillipines, Imelda Marcos. You can read more about her story here.

The album’s first single, “Please Don’t” features vocals by Santigold and has been given away for free. That’s right, free David Byrne, Fatboy Slim and Santigold all in one. Here Lies Love is to be released 23 February 2010 on Todomundo/Nonesuch Records and will feature vocal contributions by Florence + The Machine, St. Vincent, Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper, Róisín Murphy, Sharon Jones, Sia, and of course, Santigold.

Sia – You’ve Changed

Sia Youve Changed listenYou sure have changed Sia. :)

Sorry, that was lame. Let’s start all over.

Sia, who happens to be one of my favorite artists ever, decided to give her fans a taste of what she’s been working on to follow up 2007’s Some People Have Real Problems. So yesterday, she Tweeted a download link of “You’ve Changed”, which will appear on her forthcoming album, We Are Born.

The first thing you will notice about “You’ve Changed” is that it is danceable (!!), something Sia hasn’t bothered to work with on Colour the Small One or Some People Have Real Problems. To be honest, she was probably too busy working on timeless modern classics like “Breathe Me” and “Soon We’ll Be Found” to worry about making you move your hips.

This change makes sense though, right? I mean, people don’t have real problems anymore, right? Let’s just dance. Continue reading →

Sia – Under The Milky Way (The Church Cover)

Sia Under The Milky Way (The Church Cover) coversRemember when the other day, you relaxed to the calm grooves of Kelley McRae? Wasn’t that a nice feeling? Wouldn’t you want to experience that feeling again?

Sia has covered The Church’s “Under The Milky Way” and added her own, silky-smooth take on the song, complete with her ambient vocals, a sliding guitar riff, glitzy synths, and a feature in a Lincoln car commercial. A nice take on a nice song, check it out. As blog Battery In Your Leg puts it, “consider this song Zero 7′d.” Continue reading →

Sia – Breathe Me

Don’t call this a “Throwback Thursday” post.

YouTube Preview Image
“Breathe Me” scored my favorite few minutes of premium cable television ever.

Today I’m remembering the power of the song. Over the years, I’ve talked about Sia’s “Breathe Me” quite a bit and everyone’s experiences with the song seem to differ from person to person. It’s one of my favorite songs to talk about for this very reason and it remains today, one of my favorite songs of all time.

Sia – Breathe Me

I’m sure you already guessed that I’d ask… what are you feelings towards “Breathe Me”?

The Bird and The Bee – Don’t Stop the Music (Rihanna Cover)

The Bird and The Bee Dont Stop the Music (Rihanna Cover) covers

I haven’t been a fan of The Bird and The Bee long. Maybe I still wouldn’t consider myself a fan, but I am appreciating what I’ve heard so far. But when I heard this cover, I just felt something inside me come alive.

You all know how I get with good covers, and this one certainly gets an A+ in my book. Even if The Bird and The Bee aren’t your thing, make sure to give this cover a listen. Rihanna’s “Don’t Stop the Music” sounds terrific over The Bird and The Bee’s atmospheric, Sia-esque instrumentation. Trust Me.

Catch their upcoming album Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future out Jan 27th. Continue reading →
