T-Pain & Kanye West – Flight School

T Pain & Kanye West Flight School listen

T-Pain & Kanye West – Flight School / The-Dream & Kanye West – Walking On The Moon

“Flight School” is GLC track featuring Kanye West and T-Pain, but this untagged version of the track is missing GLC’s verse. Until GLC decides to add his verse, you rappers out there: knock yourselves out. I can see tons of freestyles and remixes sprouting up over the next few weeks. If you got the skills, you really shouldn’t pass this up — the beat is sick and it features T-Pain and Kanye West making the most of their talent. I’m not the biggest fan of T-Pain, but Pain really shines through on “Flight School,” and we hear Kanye bringing us back to College Dropout.

We hear Kanye West rapping once again on The-Dream’s “Walking On The Moon,” the latest, and most appealing track to surface from his sophomore effort Love vs. Money. I’ll be honest, I didn’t even bother listening to The-Dream’s first album Love Hate, despite everyone’s inflated endorsement. But I might just listen to Love vs. Money — “Walking On The Moon” sounds especially great. Head over to the Mixtape Maestro and read all about it. Listen to the tracks below: Continue reading →

The Lonely Island – Incredibad Album Review

The Lonely Island Incredibad Album Review album reviews reviews 2

[rating:73/100]

Andy Samberg and company have finally released a full-length album- and it is just as funny, absurd, and car-shaking, rim-rocking, and pulse-pounding as you expected. So pop a cold Santana Lite and enter the world of Incredibad.

Let’s start off discussing the “greatest hits,” which comprise about half of the album. They are many- “Dick in A Box,” “Jizz in My Pants,” “Space Olympics,” “We Like Sportz” (recently released on YouTube, a sequel to “Just 2 Guyz”) and “Natalie’s Rap” to name a few. Of course, we then have the original SNL classic (”Lazy Sunday”) along with the newest hit (the T-Pain-boosted “I’m On A Boat”). Since all of these have corresponding music videos, you may be wondering what’s so fantastic about hearing them again in song form. You’ll be surprised- without the studio audience laughing, it’s easier to hear the slick production value, awesome beats, and more of the lyrics. “Sunday” sounds particularly impressive. All of the tracks that have previously aired on SNL or YouTube are funny, making Incredibad already a great album. Does the new material meet the challenge? Continue reading →

New T-Pain & Justin Timberlake – Can’t Believe It (Official Remix)

New T Pain & Justin Timberlake Cant Believe It (Official Remix) listen If you read this blog, you probably know I’m not really a T-Pain fan, but more of a T-Pain toleratee. Of all the Thr33 Ringz leaks I’ve heard so far, the lead single, “Can’t Believe It,” has been my favorite, by far. The hook is crazy-good.

Anyways, on this official remix, Lil Wayne’s been dropped and Justin Timberlake hops in his place — and I’m not afraid to admit that I’m digging the fuck out of this joint. JT sounds good on the vocoder — figures, as he a real singer.

Expect this one on the radio soon. “Can’t Believe It” has been very, very successful on the Urban radio formats, but this Justin Timberlake endorsement should help T-Pain’s song break into the Top 40 side of radio. Alternately, this remix is helping Justin Timberlake break into the Urban spectrum. Not that he’s a stranger to that or anything.

Download T-Pain and JT’s “Can’t Believe It” after the jump! Continue reading →

Q&A Friday: Which Fourth Quarter Release Are You Most Excited About?

This week’s Q&A Friday is brought to you by Starbucks Chocolate! If you answer the questsion, you are entering yourself to win a Starbucks Chocolate Gift Package! Remember to enter your name and email address in the given fields.

2008’s album sales have been anything but great, despite this year’s big releases, like Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. But, as usual, the fourth quarter of the year is filled with some blockbuster gems. We’ve already seen what affect high-profile, old-school rockers like AC/DC (784,000 sold in first week) and Metallica (sold 490,000 in 3 days) had on the fourth-quarter album charts. It doesnt end there, with releases by Beyonce, The Killers, Kanye West, and Britney Spears this winter, we’re in for one hell of a finale for music in 2008.

Here’s a release guide for the fourth quarter most exciting albums. Continue reading →

New T-Pain feat Kanye West – Therapy

New T Pain feat Kanye West Therapy listen

So this leaked over the festive weekend, but I was somewhat busy and a bit reluctant to post it. Call me crazy, but I just don’t think this song is very good. No doubt, this song as well as other songs off T-Pain’s Thr33 Ringz album are going to be inescapable radio hits early next year, but T-Pain has one problem.

This song is definitely one of the album’s highlights — Kanye West? — and it doesn’t come anywhere close to “Buy You A Drank” or “Bartender”, hell, it doesn’t even touch Ye’s and Pain’s last collaboration, “Good Life.”

On the bright side, this song does feature a snappy, bitchy Kanye West actually rapping. Though, I must admit, his jumping into the song does come off as a bit awkward. I think T-Pain’s attempt to balance this song out turned out to be somewhat disastrous.

Listen to “Therapy” here Continue reading →

New Timbaland ft. T-Pain & Missy Elliott – Talk That Shit

New Timbaland ft. T Pain & Missy Elliott Talk That Shit listen
I guess I posted this track a bit too soon earlier. This is the final product fully equipped with Missy Elliott. I am really feeling “Talk That Shit” — but one thing is still unclear, will “Talk That” be on Timbaland’s Shock Value 2 or Missy Elliott’s Block Party, or maybe even T-Pain’s Thr33 Rings.

As Musicology pointed out, Missy has two verses on the track indicating that the song may appear on her upcoming album. Listen to the track below: Continue reading →

New T-Pain and Chris Brown – Freeze

New T Pain and Chris Brown Freeze listenThe last time T-Pain and Chris Brown worked together, they were responsible for one of the most annoying songs of 2007 (only to be topped by Soulja Boy, of course). Though radio play (and yes, T-Pain) made “Kiss Kiss” unbearable, I forgave Chris Brown because of his excellent third and fourth singles (”With You” and “Forever”).

This time around Chris Brown is repaying T-Pain the favor and makes a not-so-subtle appearance on T-Pain’s on-and-off-again next single, “Freeze.” I talk a lot of smack about Kanye’s vocoder-fueled single — I can’t really say the same thing about T-Pain. He’s got that shit down. I just wouldn’t want to be their when the autotune spots.

With that said, this song’s production is pretty stellar (even the Justin Timberlake beat-boxing rip offs). This track is just missing the killer hook “Kiss Kiss” owned. Freeze, like me really doesn’t do it for me. Decide for yourself Continue reading →

New Timbaland and T-Pain – Talk

New Timbaland and T Pain Talk listen
Here is a semi-fresh Timbaland leak (the first of two, actually ;) ) — and I really like it. All of my friends really have a problem with Timbo, maybe it’s the way his joints climb the charts or tend to take over the radio, but I always catch myself sticking up for this guy. You say he’s some fluffy commercial fiend, I say he’s one of America’s greatest pop icons of the 21st Century. A true musical genius in my eyes.

I find myself listening to his 2007 album, Shock Value (instrumental version mostly) all the time. The lyrics are, undoubtedly, bullshit, but the music itself is too good to deny. The same goes with “Talk.” I’m not sure if this song will be featured on Timbaland’s highly anticipated Shock Value 2 or T-Pain’s next album.

Oh and T-Pain kills Timbo on his verse. Not that it’s hard or anything, but since when does T-Pain rap? Catch the song below: Continue reading →

THE OWNAGE IS BREAKING MY PLACENTA!!

I heard someone say that today \\ I thought it was insanely HIGHlarious, but if you think about it, it’s kind of gross — BUT it does accurately sum up what this post is all about though. Remember when I used to make these longass posts back in the day? I always thought it was fun chronicling the world of pretty much amazing music in one (not so)quick, pain-free post.

I get tons of emails from people telling me they read PMA at least twice a day — one personal actually said he would refresh the page ever-so-often to make sure he caught every update. SRSLY (yay an HRO word) guyz, that’s really and all, but totally unnecessary. For one, you can just subscribe to the daily email sent @ like 5am or whatever random time I set it send. Alternately, I can make this 18-in-One* posts (*I highly doubt it’s really going to be 18-in-One, that was just a sales pitch). BUT I do have a lot of remixes and semi-newly leaked stuff I’d like to share. As I write this, I am contemplating zipping every MP3 I will post today (I think it’s going to be a lot of MP3s), but that might take too much effort. If you want to download a large .zip file instead of “Right Click, Save As…”-ing every track you might want to listen to/download, leave me a comment and express your need for zipped technology.

E=MC²: Mariah vs Mimi

Mariah Carey E=MC2

Really, there are two types of Mariah. There is the Mariah who warbled power ballads and insidious dance tunes throughout most of the 90s before going a bit crazy (Britney is so behind the times) and making the biggest comeback this side of Take That. Then there is Mimi Mariah, who insists on having guest rappers on everything and going all a bit hip hop. Which granted, has served her just as well in recent years as her old jeans and sweater on a swing in videos persona, but has left me colder than a witches tit in November. Mariah launched onto the scene back in 1990 with the epic debut single Vision of Love, which perfectly showcased her astounding vocal range and showed that she could (co)write a melodic tune up with the best of them. I fell instantly in love. I spent a fortune on importing her debut album (which i later retitled Visions) and devoured the mix of balladry (Love Takes Time, I Don’t Wanna Cry) and pure pop tunes (All In Your Mind remains an all time fave along with funktastic There’s Got To Be A Way). Her second album barely a year later was more of the same leading off with 70s inspired Emotions, more ballads (Can’t Let Go) and the excellent spiritual follow up to There’s Got To Be A Way, Make It Happen. Once again, this song showed that Mariah could pull off a bit of restraint and rule the dancefloor in a way that was completely more acceptable than say, Celine doing Misled (though i like that song too…). I was all ready for Mariah to release the highlight of her second album, You’re So Cold, (a down and dirty slice of prince-esque pop) but instead she released a cover of I’ll Be There with Trey Lorenz which actually sealed her fate as an international superstar. Her next few albums in retrospect, were a slow and subtle shift to the more hip hop orientated sound she would come to adopt, but kept the pop sensibilities that I loved. Tracks like Hero, Dreamlover, Fantasy and my all time fave Mariah song, Always Be My Baby, competed with Whitney, Janet and Deborah for space on my cd player and often won out. Add into this one of the most enduring Christmas songs in recent memory to be released and I was convinced I would be a Mariah fan for life…

Then Butterfly came along and my interest started to wane ever so slightly. Honey was the first lead off single of hers that I abandoned in a ridiculously short amount of time, and her duet with Brian McKnight (Whenever You Call) was the only track on the album I kept coming back to on a regular basis. A similar tale happened with Rainbow. It was only the nostalgia of treacly ballad Thank God I’ve Found You that held my interest. What was going on? True, I was going through a big indie college rock phase, but hey I was still spinning Deborah and Kylie, and worshiping at the altar of Steps so it couldn’t be that my pop had fizzled out. Still, I had invested so much time in Mariah and she had provided so much enjoyment for me, that i owed it to her to be a bit more faithful (unlike Janet she hasn’t burned all her bridges with me :P ). Unfortunately Glitter was a big old mess, but the single Through The Rain was a return to form that I appreciated (even though Charmbracelet was still too hip hop heavy for my liking). Then the whole world liked Mariah again thanks to her emancipation and once again, I was left pondering why one of my favourite acts had experienced such a fall from grace from me…

E=MC2

Mariah Carey E=MC2

..Until now. Mariah’s latest album is probably my favourite album of hers since Daydream. It’s by no means in the classic Mariah mode of old that I adore, but maybe I am mature enough now to accept that she has moved on and so must I. Or perhaps there is enough hint of it in this body of work that it is completely appealing to my nostalgic side. Lead off single Touch My Body is a tongue in cheek slinky groove that wisely keeps Mariah at the centre of the song and hangs back from Timbaland style over production that can overpower lesser artists. It’s the reliance on guest rappers and artists that once again do nothing for me – Migrate with T-Pain (who?), the reggae flavoured (but not in a good Jesse/Shayne way) Cruise Control and frankly boring Side Effects could all be left off the album to create a much tighter collection of tunes. I think it was PPG who heard that the very We Belong Together sounding sob fest Bye Bye could be the second single. From an accountants point of view, this is probably a good choice. It’s a lovely tune, with a gorgeous restrained vocal from Mariah and a lovely lilting melody. I have no problem with this as a single. It’s just that there are a few other songs that could easily be stronger and better single choices. I Stay In Love is probably the most 90s Mariah song here – there is some lovely piano and she starts off the song using the lower register of her voice, which I absolutely adore. It’s an incredibly pretty song that sticks in your head and makes me fall in love with her all over again. Plus it makes me want to hug Darren incredibly tightly and that’s always a good thing. The incredible That Chick takes inspiration from Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall and is a song so brimming with potential (both remix and radio) that I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a massive smash all over the world this summer. (And a funky little choreographed dance routine wouldn’t go amiss either). Taking me back to the days of perfect summer pop grooves like Make It Happen and Always Be My Baby continues with the very lovely I’ll Be Lovin You Long Time. O.O.C is a club banger in the same way that So Cold should’ve been (though it doesn’t really need the annoying bloke rant behind the groove!) I have to say I am preferring Mariahs 70s and 80s influences much more than her hip hop vibes and that is what is making this album work for me in a big way.
