Holy Ghost! “On Board” (Friendly Fires Cover)

Holy Ghost! On Board (Friendly Fires Cover) listen

Brooklyn’s remix artists turned legit dance mongers, Holy Ghost! are trading covers with English dance rockers Friendly Fires for an upcoming split 12″. Holy Ghost! takes on Friendly Fires’ “On Board” from the band’s self-titled XL Recordings debut. In an unlikely move, Holy Ghost! actually toned Friendly Fires’ “On Board” down a few notches, swerving away from their signature DFA-riddled sound, but still sounding very DFA, naturally.

Listen to the original “On Board”, then listen to Holy Ghost’s take on it below:

New Friendly Fires – I’m Good, I’m Gone (Lykke Li Cover)

New Friendly Fires Im Good, Im Gone (Lykke Li Cover) covers

The Friendly Fires are my new obsession — just a little. I have really ignored any/all blogbuzz and hype, until now. But — get this! — I heard one of their songs on Gossip Girl, and I totally hearted it. One song led to another and next thing you know, a full-blown Friendly Fires orgy was going down in my ears.

This sudden Friendly Fires crotch rocket led me to start listening to the various amounts of blogbuzz the Friendly Fires get. Checking up on hypem and elbo, I stumbled upon Check The Availability and found the Friendly Fires covering the scandilovely Lykke Li. FF taking on “I’m Good, I’m Gone” — yeah, I know, it gave me goosebumps when I first read those words too.

Download Friendly Fire’s rendition of Lykke Li’s “I’m Good, I’m Gone” below

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 6

Gossip Girl beats 90210 once again and I’m quickly running out of reasons to keep this thing going.

Gossip Girl has displayed a menagerie of great music in the past — however, New Haven Can Wait’s musical playlist feels a little dull. One beautiful gem almost smothered by the selection of lackluster songs, is the Section Quartet’s arrangement of my favorite Muse song, “Time Is Running Out.”

This song alone is worth voting for Gossip Girl.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 6 listen

Gossip Girl – New Haven Can Wait (aired 10-13-2008 to 3.34 million viewers)
The Submarines – The Wake Up Song
The Friendly Fires – White Diamonds
The Duke Spirit – Wooden Heart
The Section Quartet – Time Is Running Out [if you have the mp3 PLEASE share. I want this so bad]
(Muse – Time Is Running Out)
Jamie Blake – Dragstrip Girl (who? what? where? sorry, I could not find an mp3 to share)

90210 has always done great with mixing up the Top 40 sounds (P!nk) while still keeping its indie-cred. 90210 has also pushed a couple of artists I’ve never listed to before (Senor Happy, Natalie Walker). A well rounded list, as per usual. Maybe this time, 90210′ comprehensiveness is enough to overthrow Gossip Girl’s undying charisma.
