Tonight’s LOST Will Be Unbelievably Amazing

Tonights LOST Will Be Unbelievably Amazing tv shows

OK, maybe we shouldn’t set expectations too high (like we did last week). But we probably should. Tonight’s episode, entitled “The Life And Death of Jeremy Bentham,” will finally reveal what the hell happened to Locke from when he pushed the donkey wheel to when he met his apparent death. It should be a contained, epic saga, and a Locke tour-de-force (perhaps another Terry O’Quinn Emmy nom will be in order). Mythological characters we love are all going to pop up. Questions will be answered. And the episode will be extended 6 minutes long, making it even more epic. The producers have said that this episode kind of serves as the finale to the first act of Season Five, and we Lost fans know how well this show ends its “acts.” Click on for some spoilery video clips, and an incredible fan-made video scored to The Killers’ “All These Things That I’ve Done.” Continue reading →

The Oxygen Festival Lineup is Looking Good

Since I’m in London right now, I’ve been stalking out as much UK music-related news as possible. Unfortunately for me, I leave in May and all the great stuff starts right after.

One of these is the Oxygen Festival — For some reason the website still thinks it’s 2008, so here’s what’s been announced for the lineup so far:

“Kings Of Leon, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Blur will headline this year’s Oxegen Festival with Bloc Party, Razorlight, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Pete Doherty, Elbow, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Script, Katy Perry, White Lies, Fight Like Apes and Pendulum performing throughout the weekend. Lily Allen, Keane, The Specials, Paulo Nutini, Wallis Bird, Digitalism, The Mars Volta, Swedish House Mafia, Miss Kittin And The Hacker, Crookers and Hockey are also being added to the bill.” — the-fly.co.uk

If you’re in Ireland this summer, definitely check this festival out! I wish I could. Oxegen Festival 2009 will occur at the Punchestown Racecourse in County Kildare Kildare Ireland from July 10th -12th, and general tickets go on sale on March 6th at 8am (GMT).

If anybody knows of any great festivals occurring in the next 2.5 months in the UK, please leave a note about it in the comments!

Coldplay and Bono Join Brandon Flowers For “All These Things That I’ve Done”

Coldplay and Bono Join Brandon Flowers For All These Things That Ive Done live music

This is one of those crappy Youtube videos that’s just going to make you jealous of people who were actually at this concert, but it’s DEFINITELY worth the post. Three of our generation’s biggest rock stars (all with correspondingly big egos) performed together the other night at a War Child benefit concert, playing arguably the Killers’ best song, “All These Things That I’ve Done.” A high-quality video has yet to surface, so now we’re stuck with 3 or 4 crummy ones on Youtube. Watch the video below (my personal favorite of the crap), and allow Chris Martin, Bono, and Brandon Flowers to make you wish you were at this concert. Oh, and Gary Barlow too. Thanks to twentyfourbit.com for the pic.

pmaCAST #7: The “Valentine’s Day 2009″ Episode

pmaCAST #7: The Valentines Day 2009 Episode mp3

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! You know I had to join in on the cheese and pull this week’s pmaCAST early with a Valentine’s Day-themed episode!  Hopefully some of you enjoy it enough to listen to it with someone special tonight. Just maybe.

Because I assume that 99.9% of the movie-going population will be watching some sort of chick flick (I’m not ashamed to admit that I liked He’s Just No That Into You, and will probably watch Confessions of a Shopoholic tonight), I wanted to structure this playlist like 99.9% of the chick flicks out there. So I’ve come up with a story that I hope would play out well in songs. Or maybe you want to see this as a hopeful soundtrack to some V-Day movie coming out in 2010. Either way, here it is…

Q&A Friday: Coachella. Giving Away Merriweather Post Pavilion on Vinyl.

Saw this at about 4am this morning. Was too tired to post it up then, so here you have it!

Q&A Friday: Coachella. Giving Away Merriweather Post Pavilion on Vinyl. giveaways

That is a fantastic lineup! I think I like it better than last year. Saturday is going to be AMAZING — Killers, Amy Winehouse, TV On The Radio, Fleet Foxes, MSTRKRFT! If I had to choose only one, that would be the day.

Do you guys have your tickets? I don’t. Wish me luck on nabbing 3-day passes before they sell out. What are your thoughts on the lineup? Everyone seems to be raving about it so far.

Anyway, so this week’s question is another easy one: Who are you most excited to see at Coachella (in person, or via AT&T’s Blue Room magic)? And if you’re feeling dirty: Do you not like the lineup? Who’s missing?

And this is the first time we don’t have a sponsor for a Q&A Friday. Big bummer [sad face]. Ok let me plug this real quick, so this doesn’t happen again:

Are you interested in promoting your new product or event in a way that engages thousands of young, savvy, music fans? Email me for more info!

Yeah, that’s how it works, guys. Oh but just because we don’t have a sponsor this time doesn’t mean I’m not giving anything away! I’m expecting a new vinyl order to come in today (it’s my new years resolution to collect as much vinyl as I can), and I’m going to have an extra copy of Merriweather Post Pavilion gathering dust, so I’m going to give it away here.

What’s Going On?

Whats Going On? gigs

In NY: The Bowery Ballroom is the place to be this week, with shows from The Rosebuds (Friday night), FRIGHTENED RABBIT (!) (Saturday night), and Department of Eagles (Monday night), and ANIMAL COLLECTIVE (Next Wednesday night). Granted, the Bowery is kind of the place to be every week.

But don’t think the Bowery is your only option this week! You’ve got Animal Collective playing their first NYC show of ‘09 at the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom on Tuesday. Also Tuesday, party to the music of Fucked Up at the Market Hotel. And don’t forget about the best show of the week, next Wednesday (January 21st) at the Bell House. Recap-rockers Previously On Lost will be playing their odes to Jack, Sawyer, Locke, etc. at their SEASON PREMIERE PARTY for the greatest television show on air. You’ll watch the two hour premiere event first, and then finish it off with an awesome concert.

And, the FLEET FOXES are playing SNL this week! How awesome is that?

The Real MTV- Music on MTV

The Real MTV Music on MTV listen

Here we go again, this time with music recaps of the most recent episodes of Gossip Girl and 90210, along with the second third of Chuck’s season two.

Starting with Gossip Girl’s fourteenth episode in season two, “In The Realm Of The Basses.” This annoyingly-titled episode contains one of the show’s best song selections to date- Department of Eagles’ catchy and beautiful “No One Does It Like You.” It also featured a song from the great rising band The Little Ones. Their song “Morning Tide” was stuck in my head for a while, and the song used on GG, “Like A Spoke on a Wheel,” is great as well. Another fantastic song used was “Who’s Crying” by The Temporary Thing. I’m going to check out more of their music right now.

OK, I’m back. It’s a guy named Andrew Gleason. He’s really good.

The list:

90210 had a good music week as well, with “Hello, Goodbye, Amen,” episode 12, featuring one of my favorite songs of 2008, “Spaceman.” By none other than Brandon Flowers and The Killers. The episode also used a Joshua Radin song, “The Fear That You Won’t Fall.” His music is always good for television shows like these. Continue reading →

Pretty Much Amazing’s Best Albums of 2008

Pretty Much Amazings Best Albums of 2008 best of 2008
2008 was quite a year for music. Maybe it wasn’t as great as 2007, but we made due with what we had. I didn’t connect with an album in 2008 the way I connected with In Rainbows, or Neon Bible, or Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Those were albums that had me falling in love with every track listen after listen. However, the following twenty albums are my favorite albums of 2008 and ranking them was somewhat painful/futile — which is why we came to the conclusion that numbering year-end lists was completely sacrilegious and spat in the face of music lists everywhere.

After deciding to trash the option of numbering this list, I went with dividing my Top 20 albums into 3 categories: Big Albums by Big Names, Newcomers, and Eye Openers. Are you ready? Here are Pretty Much Amazing’s 20 Favorite Albums of 2008.

Leave your top albums in the comments, if you’d like! We’d love to hear them! Oh and if you have a blog and have posted a year end list, drop the link in the comments as well!

Stereogum & team9 Present… MySplice III

Stereogum & team9 Present... MySplice III mp3

Stereogum and team9 have teamed up for a third year in a row to bring us their MySplice III mashup compilation. The mix includes 2008 blog staples like Bloc Party, Lykke Le, of Montreal, Beck, and Crystal Castles mashed with 2008’s ineluctable pop hits (Britney Spears, Rihanna, Kanye, Katy Perry). Oh, and they through in some oldies as well (Cyndi Lauper, Guns N’ Roses, etc).

I don’t know if you guys feel it too, but I can’t help but think this is the best MySplice yet.

Stream the whole thing here, and download the mp3s below the player.
