The Ravonettes “Heart of Stone”

The Ravonettes Heart of Stone mp3

The Raveonettes “Heart of Stone” takes the Danes’ customary ethereal, ghostly vocal harmonies and layers them over an echoey, twangy guitar line reminiscent of a western movie. It’s a sad song, but a fascinating one; intertwined vocals and a rhythm it’s easy to lose yourself in wrap you up from the first listen. “Heart of Stone” is like an endless highway, a black-and-white detective film – vaguely sinister but mostly transfixing.

The song’s music video is as dark, mysterious, and ornate as the song itself, with imagery akin to that dreamed up by Tim Burton – an animated Rube Goldberg machine of heartbreak. The Raveonettes – Bang!

The Raveonettes Bang! favorite songs

The opener off of Danish duo The Raveonettes’ forthcoming LP In And Out Of Control is not only worthy of the title but also the exclamation point. “Bang!” is a wonderful, addictive pop song with heart that is a perfect opener for the album. The structure will not surprise most, but the delivery is flawless.

“Bang!” has the effortlessness that a good summer-ending pop song like this needs. The delivery also allows for lines like “The way you kiss keeps me hanging on” and  “You’re as sweet as ice cream” to simply be cute and fun instead of cheesy. After three albums The Raveonettes are still impressively creating great music. In And Out Of Control comes out on October 6th.

The Raveonettes – Last Dance

The Raveonettes Last Dance listen

Drugs and overdosing seems to be the theme of 2009. Danish Duo, The Raveonettes tap into the touchy but prevalent subject in “Last Dance” (oh the infamous last dance). This track is definitely a pick-me-up. It has a hint of pop, airy vocals and kind of strays from the duo’s signature “dark rock” resonance. They preformed the song (along with most of their new album) at Lollapalooza in Chicago this August where it received much praise, having Spin Magazine has already acclaimed it to be “immaculate.”

In and Out of Control is turning heads by “giving away” their album (really, studio demos) as they record it via their twitter page. So, join the masses in getting exciting for their fourth “edited” studio album to drop – it should be a good one. Vice Records will be releasing the album in its entirety October 6. They kick off their North American tour at the start of October (the 2nd) in Austin, TX. Listen to “Last Dance” here Continue reading →
