The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name (RAC Remix), PMA Premiere

The Ting Tings Thats Not My Name (RAC Remix), PMA Premiere mp3

It’s no secret that my ears have a major crush on RAC’s remixes. This is PMA’s 13th post on André Allen Anjos’s Remix Artist Collective, so I figured it should be something special. Over the last few months, Andre and I have become GTalk buddies and he has shared a few remixes with me, and for record label-related reasons, I’m not allowed to share most of them. This Ting Tings remix, I’ve had since late May, and I am just now getting clearance to share it with everyone else.

This remix of “That’s Not My Name” is coming just in time for the single’s resurgence in the US, but for the rest of the radio-boycotting population, this remix will give us a fresh new way to look at a 2008 favorite.

Florence and The Machine – Girl With One Eye

Florence and The Machine Girl With One Eye listen
I’ve spent the better part of the last 12 hours listening to Florence and the Machine’s full-length debut album, Lungs. The album is a tour de force that matches the releases of her soulful British peers Amy, Adele, and Duffy.

With the Ting Tings’ “That’s Not My Name” climbing American radio charts week after week, and Florence and the Machine’s cool indie vibe, and commercial appeal on the rise, don’t expect the Female British Invasion to stop anytime soon.

“Girl With One Eye” is an unapologetically big pop number packed with silky, raw, soulful blues without losing an ounce of charm. Listen to “Girl With One Eye” here Continue reading →

The Ting Tings – Great DJ (Acoustic Version)

The Ting Tings Great DJ (Acoustic Version) listen

Like Lady GaGa, The Ting Tings sound surprisingly great acoustic. Of course, we all heard something like this go down at Yo Gabba Gabba! a few months ago when The Ting Tings made an almost-acoustic rendition of Altered Image’s “Happy Birthday (To You).” But hearing their synthed out “Great DJ” go acoustic is a whole other experience entirely.

Props to Persona Sauna for this one! Continue reading →

Pretty Much Amazing’s Best Albums of 2008

Pretty Much Amazings Best Albums of 2008 best of 2008
2008 was quite a year for music. Maybe it wasn’t as great as 2007, but we made due with what we had. I didn’t connect with an album in 2008 the way I connected with In Rainbows, or Neon Bible, or Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Those were albums that had me falling in love with every track listen after listen. However, the following twenty albums are my favorite albums of 2008 and ranking them was somewhat painful/futile — which is why we came to the conclusion that numbering year-end lists was completely sacrilegious and spat in the face of music lists everywhere.

After deciding to trash the option of numbering this list, I went with dividing my Top 20 albums into 3 categories: Big Albums by Big Names, Newcomers, and Eye Openers. Are you ready? Here are Pretty Much Amazing’s 20 Favorite Albums of 2008.

Leave your top albums in the comments, if you’d like! We’d love to hear them! Oh and if you have a blog and have posted a year end list, drop the link in the comments as well!

New Estelle & Kanye vs The Ting Tings – Shut Up, American Boy (The Hood Internet Remix)

New Estelle & Kanye vs The Ting Tings Shut Up, American Boy (The Hood Internet Remix) mp3

The Hood Internet have just dropped their Mixtape Volume Three and it’s hotter than ever (you can download it here)! I’ve always like these guys and their style, it’s a bit smoother than other mashup DJs, like Immuzikation, and it’s not as erratic as, say, Girl Talk.

The whole mixtape is pretty damn good, but their mashup of Estelle’s “American Boy” and the Ting Tings’ “Shut Up And Let Me Go” is stellar! I just had to share it.

Download “Shut Up, American Boy” here Continue reading →

SPIN.com’s Top 25 MGMT Remixes

SPIN.com chooses its Top 25 MGMT Remixes. I like them:

  • “All My Children” (MGMT vs. LCD Soundsystem), Immuzikation
Immuzikation, a.ka. Athens, Georgia’s Alfredo P. Lapuz, Jr., is the mash-up man of the moment, and this extended massaging of LCD’s “All My Friends” (basically a mash-up of Steve Reich and New Order, anyway) with MGMT’s “Kids” is a fascinating mix of aging hipster regret and childlike hipster nostalgia. The soundtrack to a changing of the guard? (DOWNLOAD MP3)
  • “Nasty Feel,” MGMT vs. Justice vs. Notorious B.I.G.
Brooklyn duo ddpesh modestly describe their music as “Daft Punk plus Premier’s beats divided by the Chemical Brothers” (um, good luck with that, fellas). But this hilariously ingenious mash-up of Biggie’s “Nasty Boy” with Justice’s remix of MGMT’s white-soul wafer “Electric Feel” gets a damn sight closer than anything they’ve ever done before. Never thought I’d hear Frank White “freekin’ these bitches like Jodeci” over the hackey-sack slow jam of the year. (DOWNLOAD MP3)
  • “Kids” (We Don’t Care EP version), MGMT
The original, cheaply made version sounds like actual guileless kids stumbling into magic — the singing’s less affected, the drama less studio-enhanced, and when the vocals kick in after the electro breakdown and sound of children playing with about minute left to go, you honestly stop caring for a second what the hell they mean by a family of trees wanting to be haunted! New Ting Tings – Happy Birthday (Updated Link)

New Ting Tings Happy Birthday (Updated Link) listenI really don’t understand why so many artists are appearing on Nickelodeon’s silly (and quite boring) kid’s show Yo Gabba Gabba! For whatever reason, many artists have made special and memorable appearances on the show, and now the runaway indie hits, the Ting Tings, have been added to the ever-expanding list of talented musicians extending their artistry to our culture’s most cherished children’s songs. This time, the Ting Tings are putting their sweet twist on “Happy Birthday.”

I wonder if Warner Bros. made any money off of that performance?

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 1

Last season, I held a Gossip Girl vs Chuck Music Showdown, but doesn’t Gossip Girl vs 90210 make much more sense? Yeah, I thought so too. Gossip Girl and 90210 both premiered on Monday (9.01) and Tuesday (9.02) respectively. Here’s the music that I managed to track down from both shows.

Gossip Girl
So far Gossip Girl’s music doesn’t really reflect on its soundtrack at all.
Gossip Girl – Summer, Kind of Wonderful 9.01.08
Shwayze – Buzzin’
Motion City Soundtrack – Fell In Love Without You (Acoustic)
Lady GaGa – Paparazzi
The Windupdeads – Reverse Of Shade
Jem – Crazy
Teyana Taylor – Google Me

90210
In my humble opinion, 90210 fuckin’ creams Gossip Girl — music-wise, GG is still mah show bitches.
90210 – We’re Not In Kansas Anymore 9.02.08
The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name
Adele – Chasing Pavements
MGMT – Time To Pretend
Coldplay – Viva La Vida
Tilly And The Wall – Beat Control
Tilly And The Wall – Pot Kettle Black
Colby O’Donis – What You Got
The Offspring – Your Gonna Go Far, Kid

But now you get to vote! Woot.
