Fever Ray – Seven (The Twelves Remix), PMA Premiere
Fever Ray’s current single “Seven” is a smooth, filmy track about daydreaming in your youth… about suicide. At least that’s what I got from it. But despite it’s dark undertones, there’s no reason why “Seven” shouldn’t be a jam.

The Twelves – Nightvision (Daft Punk Cover)

“Nightvision” was a filler track on Daft Punk’s Discovery that ran for a minute and forty-five seconds, yet this Twelves track is credited with being a cover of that. Oh, I should also mention that this “cover” runs for nearly 5 minutes. What the Twelves have done here is create something new and full of life. I guess this could have easily been called a remix, but it is Cover Tuesday so we’ll go with that.

La Roux – In For The Kill + The Twelves
La Roux – In For The Kill / (The Twelves Remix)
Earlier this year I told you all to keep an eye out for La Roux. Her single “Quicksand” was pretty fantastic, and the next one, “In For The Kill” is just as great. “In For The Kill” continues what “Quicksand” started and runs with the same Robyn / Little Boots vibe that has brought her so much attention (and rightfully so). The Twelves have even taken an interest in La Roux. Their remix of “In For The Kill” slows things for a bit, until they’re ready to drop a retro beat over some whacky synths — I can easily pass for an MGMT song. Some Remixes on a Sunday #3
Continuing this from two Sundays ago.
It’s crazy how many great mixes you can across in a single week. These 10 were my favorite finds of the week. Big thanks to Ohh! Crapp, Fancy Sounds, Sundtrak, HypeM, and probably the biggest shout out goes to the people who send me their mixes!
On the last “Some Remixes on a Sunday” post, I focused a lot on movies. Mostly the films that I wanted to see. Since then, I have seen Frost/Nixon, The Wrestler, The Reader, Defiance, and Happy-Go-Lucky. I’m still DYING to watch Rachel Getting Married. For some reason, something gets in the way of me watching it at the theater whenever I decide to go out and watch it. And the torrent is nowhere to be found, a little less than a month away from the Oscars. It’s driving me nuts! I’m a sucker for contemp dramas — yes, I’m really pissed at the way Revolutionary Road was royally dissed on the Oscar nominations — so if any of your have some sort of Rachel Getting Married hook-up, pass it along, yeah?
I can’t really talk much, listening to this new Weezy track that’s sort of ridiculous. Weezy doing rock music is definitely not my cup of tea. More about it tomorrow. Till then, here are my favorite mixes of the week! Continue reading →

Alright, a lot of you left comments and emails asking me to podcast this years Best Remixes list, so here you have it. This is probably the only time I will have an episode of the pmaCAST be 100% remix. I know you have to be in a certain mood to listen to a remix, so I tend to steer clear from those in podcasts. Whatever the case, let me know how/if you like your remixes on your podcasts.

Pretty Much Amazing’s Best Remixes of 2008
Here’s the next installment of Pretty Much Amazing’s year-end list extravaganza. All of these remixes are top quality, hot-as-fuck, bad ass mixes that deserve to be heard again and again — even if they were whored by the Hype Machine enough.
