pmaCAST #14: Yes, I Love Fred Falke Remixes

And here is the fourteenth installment of the pmaCAST, a bi-monthly playlist that I hope will enrich and soundtrack your week. This week I went with a digital vibe that I have been shaking off for a while now. It has caught up with me, and has now permeated through the pmaCAST. I use some all-time favorites (Belle & Sebastien, LCD Soundsystem, Roisin Murphy, Daft Punk, Peaches) as well as some new-found loves (Fred Falke, obiously, everyone else).
I’m not going to upload and post up all of the tracks like I did last time, but I will put up a few tracks featured on this weeks’ playlist that I think will make your life a lot less sucky.
Ratatat – Lex
MEN – Credit Card Babie$
The Pragmatic – You Blame Me
The Asteroids Galaxy Tour – Push The Envelope
Please (HEART) these songs if you enjoyed them!
Read on for the full tracklist. Continue reading →

Remix-A-Day: U2 – Magnificent (Fred Falke Remix)
Because we are focusing more on upcoming musical releases around here, new remixes get the short end of the PMA stick, sadly. I am determined to devote one post a day on new remixes, instead of bunching 10+ remixes in bulk. That has become somewhat tacky. Click here to read all of our Remix-A-Day remixes.

Stellar remixes for U2 by bloghaus names. Here is Justice remixing “Get On Your Boots,” and look out for RAC’s remix of “Magnificent” soon.

U2 – Get On Your Boots (Justice Remix)

[rating:88/100]
Justice took one of my ten favorite singles of 2008 so far (no, that was not an April Fools joke, I love “Boots,” don’t lose all respect for me please), and made it into something completely new, original, different, and awesome.
Rather than taking “Boots” and turning it into a club-banger, Justice instead chose to change the song’s dynamic, adding soulful piano, horns, and looped Bono. So now, instead of being an awkward-groovy-rock-Radiohead imitation by Bono and company, “Get On Your Boots” is a funkadelic, toe-tapping, head-bopping show-stopper. Continue reading →

U2 Announce Dates For 360 Tour

U2 will be playing tons and tons of shows on a cool, “innovative” stage that will apparently rotate and give all fans an unobstructed view. The “360″ tour is running through Europe and the U.S.A., and whether you liked No Line or not, I’m guessing you’ll love the U2 live experience. Everyone else does.
Click on for tour dates and locations…the tour’s website hypes up affordable ticket prices as well. Continue reading →

U2 – No Line On The Horizon Album Review

[rating:57/100]
“You’ve got to balance being relevant and commenting on something that’s happening today with trying to attain timelessness,” said U2 guitarist the Edge back in the 1990s. And he’s right- that’s exactly what such a powerful, classic, monumental rock band needs to do: find a way to always sound the same, yet experiment with new musical ideas and trends. And with No Line On The Horizon, U2 continues their long, loooong streak of making this formula work. They make the music both timely and timeless.

Hmmm…Pitchfork Gives U2 A 4.2

Not quite sure what to make of this one.I’m surprised P4K didn’t give them a U.2.
Their critic Ryan Dombal calls No Line On The Horizon a “a defensive gesture, and a rather pitiful one at that.”
U2 has been getting both a lot of love and, well, a lot of more love lately.
What do you guys think? Have you heard No Line On The Horizon yet (if not, it’s streaming on U2’s MySpace)? Does it deserve praise or criticism?
PMA’s review will be up very shortly, probably early in this week.

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 2.28.09

Ha… yeah, that’s a Cobra Snake pic on PMA. **Cherry Popping Sound**
I’ve been ignoring posting most remixes in favor of artists who demand more hype than they’ve been getting, and I will continue to do so, but I thought that now that it’s officially the weekend and that most of you are heading out to some party soon, you might want to grab a few of these. Oh and I understand that it’s already past 9pm on the EAST COAST! My bad! I will make sure to post the next Saturday Night Party Music Planner a bit earlier!
Anyway, let’s start off with an incredible remix of Eminem’s infuriatingly catchy “Crack A Bottle,” yeah? Cool… Continue reading →

Get On Your Spidey-Suits

Just like Kanye’s VH1 Storytellers, this will also be epic.
The much-rumored Julie Taymor/Bono collaboration on a Spiderman broadway show was finally confirmed a few days ago by Pitchfork.
Called “Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark,” the musical could either be great or terrible. Taymor is slated to direct, and Bono (along with The Edge) will write the music and lyrics. Let’s just hope that they don’t take the show too seriously (think Spider-Man 2, the best of the three movies). Taymor has an excellent resume, with her Broadway show The Lion King and her movie Across The Universe (although Videogum would beg to differ).
Previews will start on January 16, 2010, and the show’s opening night will be February 18. In all likelihood, the talented Evan Rachel Wood (who so well-covered The Beatles in ATU) will play Mary Jane.
Pitchfork really does put it best: “Even if this thing turns out to be a shit sandwich, it will most definitely be a spectacularly over-the-top shit sandwich.”
In my gut, I don’t think it will be a shit sandwich. How about you?

Listen To U2’s Album Today!

That’s right: No Line On The Horizon is live on U2’s Myspace as you read this. Two tracks in, it sounds like vintage U2 to me- I’m thinking this will be a pretty well-received album, if that wasn’t already evidenced by Rolling Stones’ five-star review. Check out the album HERE (make sure to click on No Line’s album cover) and let PMA know what you think!
Thanks to Pop Candy for the tip.
