Chiddy Bang has remixed the first single from Gorillaz’ forthcoming Plastic Beach LP, “Stylo” and puts Mos Def’s unfortunately weak contribution to shame. Xaphoon Jones also let the erratic original simmer down on his smooth, slow-burning backing track.

Chiddy Bang’s “Opposite of Adults” (also known as “Kids”), the MGMT-sampling, career-launching summer scorcher from The Swelly Express, is finally getting a proper release, and with some justice, Chiddy Bang will see the commercial success they deserve.
Chiddy Bang is hitting up the UK first (you lucky bastards) with the Opposite of Adults EP, which is out on February 22nd. Parlophone, has posted up the official music video for “Opposite of Adults” on their YouTube channel. “The Swelly Express” is the true story of two college kids (Chidera Anamege and Xaphoon Jones) from Philly who rocked some parties at Drexel and quickly gained the attention of “the industry”. The music and lyrics were inspired by many boring trips on the Chinatown bus (they have wifi now!) on the way to meet “big wigs” in NYC. After a bunch of nice dinners and some free drinks for these 2 underage kids, Chiddy Bang decided to make a mixtape. PMA is proud to present this mixtape with OnSMASH and Crooks & Castles.

Chiddy Bang are hitting the scene hard with their upcoming mixtape, The Swelly Express, due 10/29. PMA is proud to premiere another cut off the mixtape called “All Things Go.”
Chiddy Bang describe The Swelly Express as the true story of a journey of two college kids breaking into the “music biz.” The mixtapes’ lyrics and music will bare this journey in mind, which is clearly evident in both “Decline” and especially “All Things Go.”
Sample-based hip-hop has always been my favorite (Kanye West, most Jay-Z, A Kid Named Cudi) and Xaphoon Jones has always had an ear for implementing an “indie” sample buried withing scathing bass. “All Things Go” samples Sufjan Steven’s “Chicago” — one of my personal favorite songs of all time. We knew Xaphoon Jones first as the producer and the sampling mastermind behind the quickly rising Chiddy Bang. Chiddy Bang owe most of the publicity they get to the tight, slick samples this guy has crafted for them. Like a musical pickpocket, Xaphoon Jones showed us that he has an ear for contemporary music and making it work in unconventional environments. With his debut eponymous mixtape, Xaphoon pushes passed the boundaries we thought he had and dips into soulful Motown favorites, East Coast Rap, and Reggae.

Last week, I premiered a new Chiddy Bang cut from Xaphoon Jones’ upcoming mixtape, available tomorrow exclusively through PMA. Xaphoon does all the production and sampling on PMA favorites Chiddy Bang and he’s branching out and breaking down into infectious bouts of bmore club on his upcoming, Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. 1. His mixtape also touches on Motown hits, old school rap, and new school blog hits.
On this newest sneak peak, two of the loudest voices of our generation are pinned head to head, Jaydiohead style. However, Xaphoon’s added drum loops and synths sound a lot better and Minty Fresh Beats’ ever did. Listen to “Reckoner” and “Touch The Sky” blend together effortlessly in “Testify.”

It’s been a hot minute, but I’m here to present a brand new Chiddy Bang track! “Pro’s Freestyle” can be found on Xaphoon Jones‘ upcoming mixtape. For those of you who don’t know, Xaphoon is the mastermind behind Chiddy Bang’s tight production and signature sampling. The Chiddy Bang producer will release his mixtape, The Xaphoon Jones Mixtape Vol. 1 exclusively through Pretty Much Amazing on September 1st.
Aside from this slick new Chiddy Bang track, The Xaphoon Jones Mixtape features original remixes and mashups of big names like MGMT, Radiohead, Kanye West, Passion Pit and classics like Bob Marley, Led Zepplin, and Marvin Gaye.
This mixtape pushes my growing interest in B-more club music, infusing it effectively with old-school Motown and modern hits, this side of Pitchfork.
