Long Live Hot Girls (A Mixtape)
Words and Artwork by Dan McGrath (aka Knatterjak)
Well, its that time of year again. The wonderful summer weather is quickly becoming a thing of the past, everyday I find myself stuck behind a school bus in an Irish Catholic neighborhood, and another hope crushing, tear inducing, life raping season of football is right around the corner (I am a Buffalo Bills fan). But all is well… because nothing can take away the 2 most important things this world has to offer: Great Music and Hot Girls. I dedicate this mix to the wonderful women and titillating tunes that get me through my workday… which consists of tons weed whacking and mowing lawns. Thank heavens for the 200k education I just finished…
All kidding aside, I actually love the fall and am in no way the pessimistic male chauvinist bastard that wrote the paragraph above… although my job really does suck.
Enjoy. Continue reading →

Robyn – Because Of Boys / A Cause Des Garcons (Yelle Cover)

As promised, here is Robyn covering my favorite Yelle track “A Cause Des Garcons” or “Because of Boys.” I love Robyn and all, but her cover of “A Cause Des Garcons” doesn’t come close to Yelle’s cover of “Who’s That Girl.” But at least we have a better idea of what we’ve been jamming out to every time we listen to “A Cause Des Garcons.”
I kid. I’m very glad iTunes made this happen. This was the second pair of singles released through their Foreign Exchange series. First up was +44 and Wir sind Helden. I have high hopes for possibly future installments.

Yelle – Qui Est Cette Fille/Who’s That Girl (Robyn Cover)

epic photo by serhio. isn’t that shirt fuckin’ fantastic?! click to enlarge
My favorite femme parisienne, Yelle, (also known as Julie Budet) is part of iTunes’ inspired Foreign Exchange series. iTunes commissioned Yelle and Robyn to do each other for the world to enjoy. First up is Yelle covering Robyn’s “Who’s That Girl,” or “Qui Est Cette Fille.” My French is a little rusty, but as far as I can tell, Yelle’s version is exceptionally great. She made Robyn and her fans proud.

We Heart Electro Laydees
The recent uprising of solo female electro artists has not gone unnoticed in our world. Yelle is a French girl with blistering dance floor gems, whereas Robyn’s latest album is perhaps the peak of the genre. Also featured is Roisin Murphy’s You Know Me Better from her embarrassingly unheard of LP, Overpowered (the best pop album since Ray Of Light), Stefy’s man-hating slice of magnificence and internet favorite Lykke Li.

Speaking of Roisin Murphy, check out her videos in a rather splendid youtubeular fashion here and here. Tell me please, is she not the best music video artist of the 2000s so far?
