Weezy and, oh yeah, Yeezy: GQs Men of the Year. uncategorized Kanye West and Lil Wayne are both “honored” in GQ’s inaugural Men of the Year issue, in newsstands everywhere, next week. Kanye is a Man of the Year for his “exceptional achievements”in 2007.

Lil’ Wayne was called a “workaholic” by GQ; he released various mixtapes in 2007 and appeared on such songs as “Barry Bonds” by Kanye West, “Duffle Bag Boys” by Playaz Circle, DJ Khaled’sLilwaynetrina “We Takin’ Over,” and Jay-Z’s “Hello Brooklyn.” Daft Punk was also cited by the magazine. I’m not sure what Daft Punk did to become “Men of the Year”, but I’m all for Kanye and Lil Wayne’s achievements. Kanye released the years best rap album, once again (oh yes, I went there), and Lil Wayne’s mixtapes and ultimately The Carter III where/will be amazing. Lil Wayne has hit his stride this year, releasing an unfathomable amount of new, fresh music that has changed rap forever. Weezy has a certain charisma to his voice that is not paralleled in recognizability, nor unparadox flow. I can, with much ease, say that Lil Wayne is the Best Rapper Alive.

Cue the backlash.

Kanye West ft Lil Wayne – Can’t Tell Me Nothing (Remix) (YSI)
Lil Wayne – Dough Is What I Got (YSI)

Lil Wayne has some of the best ghostwriters alive, period… If he is really even to be put in the same paragraph as today’s true talent, then ask yourself this; Why did his rhymes evolve nearly ten thousand fold between everyone of his old albums and the remixes he is constantly a part of now? He has stage presence and can deliver well but come on…. there is no way he is now just best rtapper period when the block was hot as an ice cube when he came out with that crap. I wish it was not the case, but lil wayne is one of the many benfactors of the infamous ghostwriters. In fact i heard he benefits from the anonymous three writers in Philly.
One more time I want to say that this really has been hard for me to take in that he has always been my favorite from the cash money scene. But there is no way he could ever step to likes of Andre 3000 or Kweli or Blackthought, MF Doom, and the list goes on of far more talented writers/ rhymers on any stage.

I heard Lil’ Wayne on a lot of records this year! I liked the one he did on Enrique Iglesias’ album. I like Barry Bonds for Kanye West’s album. His song with Chris Brown is good. He must have recorded hundreds of songs in 2006 and 2007 when we the public didn’t notice. And he sounds quite good on all of them. He has a very distinctive rap style to come from New Orleans. Plus, he’s very versatile, none of his songs with others sound the same.

I’ve been saying this shit a lot recently: weezy has never been, is not, nor will he ever be the greatest rapper alive. He’s currently the hottest in the mainstream, because the dude drops a new song every 3 minutes. And for everyone talking about his lyrics being the best ever, I’ve got a suggestion: LOOK EM UP. Listening to a weezy song, you hear a line thats some clever little simile or something, and its like “damn that dude is smart”. Look that shit up, though, and it doesn’t fucking make any sense. Just listen to a milli and it becomes clear. As to who the best rapper alive may be, you can’t make that assertion. It could be any number of people, including lupe, mos, talib, dre… i mean the shit goes on forever. So stop bickering. Weezy doesn’t suck, he’s a good performer. He is not, however, the greatest rapper alive.
