Toronto electro-pop outfit Austra, lead by Katie Stelmanis, released a short EP earlier this year called Habitat - we shared the title track with you back in May. Now the group have put out a video for EP cut "Hulluu," where Stelmanis and co. seem to mimic the Knife. For one, there's barely any vocals that accompany the ominous, foreboding production, but when there is, it finds Stelmanis delivering in a raspy voice that's equally haunting. The video, directed by Zeesy Powers, follows choreographer/dancer Emily Law dancing by herself surrounded by a black backdrop.
"I knew that I wanted the video for 'Hulluu' to focus on movement," said Stelmanis about the vidveo. "I've known Emily since I was 12 and she is the best dancer/waacker in Toronto so I definitely wanted her to be a part of it. Zeesy is a super-talented artist who I used to live with and collaborate with all the time making soundtracks for her performance art pieces (and who was actually the one to encourage me to start performing my own music in the first place)."
It appears we owe Powers a debt of gratitude then. Watch the video below; Habitat EP is out now via Paper Bag.
