YACHT released their new album, Shangri-La yesterday on DFA Records. In honor of the album's release, the electro-pop duo have released a new video for first singles "Utopia" & "Dystopia". Sci-Fi fan and one half of YACHT, Claire L. Evans had this to say about the video:
Some might recognise the spatial environment of Utopia as being a 3D visualisation of the ideas of the radical architecture group Superstudio. Superstudio, founded in the late 1960s in Florence, Italy, essentially worked against their own discipline, arguing that architecture and design formalised unjust social divisions in concrete space and induced people to consume unnecessarily. Their vision of Utopia wasn't an ideal city or a perfectly organised arcology with room for everyone - it was a world without buildings, a life without objects. They dreamed of nomadic communities living the warm and human aspects of life on a vast, impersonal grid."
