King Krule’s “Rock Bottom” isn’t only a great song about hitting rock bottom, it’s also very visual – close your eyes when you listen and you can easily imagine yourself listening to Archy Marshall sing about his trials and tribulations from the dingy, red-curtain-backed stage in a dark, super-seedy, David Lynch-ian bar. Or, you could just check out the video, in which Marshall performs from a dingy stage in a seedy bar while having the most surreally terrible day – hanging out with a cactus-faced matriarch who feeds him a gross-looking soup, wandering aimlessly among some modernist structures along a post-apocalyptic shoreline, getting attacked by some dudes and their dog, you know the deal. It’s awesome when one of your favorite songs of the year gets a great video. Check it out.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
