On July 1st, Radiohead’s From The Basement live performance will be broadcast by the BBC. The special will be the first time the band has performed songs from this year’s The King of Limbs. A five-minute teaser for the TV special was released recently and showed the band perform a brand new song called “Staircase”.

The new song is sure to reignite rumors that there is a sequel to King of Limbs coming later this year. A few months ago the band went on the record and said they had no plans to such a “sequel”. But then again, before announcing KoL, they said they wouldn’t record albums anymore.

“Staircase” sounds more like the jazzier, atmospheric, Flying Lotus-inspired first half of The King of Limbs than the heavier, melodic and more substantial second half. It was surely recorded around the same time as the album, and will probably see a one-off release like “Supercolider”/”The Butcher” did earlier this year.
