Parquet refers to the variety of hardwood floors that are arranged in geometric patterns instead of just the typical end-to-end lines. The most famous example of this probably being the court that the Boston Celtics play on. What all this has to do with a new Brooklyn via Texas band called Parquet Courts, I’m not entirely sure, but it does seem relevant by default.

Regardless, they have just released a video from a recent performance they did at a Brooklyn music venue called Death by Audio. As Pigeons and Planes points out, it’s not typical that a live video is the best introduction to a band, but in this case it just might be. As exemplified by the gentle moshing going on in the crowd, Parquet Courts do have a definite punk vibe to their music, but a tempered one. You’d leave such a mosh pit a little sweaty, but without a broken nose. Anywho, their excellent debut album, Light Up Gold, has been out since August of last year, but they’ve just been picking up internet hype in the past week or so. I’m in love with the album, and if this video doesn’t sell you on them, check out “Stoned and Starving.” We’re looking forward to hearing more from them as their buzz train continues to roll on out of Brooklyn.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
