Ryan Hemsworth has a name that could easily belong to a Jersey Shore alumnus or a frat brother or Miley Cyrus’s fiancé, but nope – it belongs to a Canadian electronic musician who crafts sample-heavy (but still completely original), dark, catchy pop. Check out “Charly Wingate,” with its “only money music and family important to me” refrain, percolating, stuttering instrumentals that recall Royksopp, pounding percussion, and undulating bass pulse. The attendant visuals, by Hector de la Vallee and Octave Abaji, are monochromatic but complex and fascinating. Check it out – Hemsworth’s Last Words EP is out August 21.
