Multitalented French singer and actress Stephanie Sokolinski, better known by her nom-de-dreampop Soko, recruited her friends Spike Jonze and Sam Spiegel to help her create a visual side to her ethereal new song “I Thought I Was An Alien,” the title track on her upcoming record.

The video, directed by and starring Soko herself and shot entirely on Jonze’s iPhone in Los Angeles, is as hazy and nostalgic and weird as the song itself – colorful washes, repetitive cuts, and all manner of filmic tricks enhance the dreamy quality of Soko’s voice and out-of-this-world guitar riffs as Jonze follows his subjects’ extraterrestrial love affair. Check it out.

The last we heard from Soko, she was a scorned woman on the quirky and great “I’ll Kill Her”. The chanteuse’s new album, I Thought I Was An Alien is out February 20, 2012.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
