Check Out: Ava Luna - "PRPL"

Ava Luna effortlessly fuse a punk aesthetic with r&b and soul music.

Ava Luna has been one of my favorite bands since I saw them by accident at CMJ 2010. I think it's something about their somehow-effortless conglomeration of soul, R&B, and funk vibes with a decidedly punk taste for distortion and heavy bass (seriously, have you heard "Clips"?). They're putting out another record, Electric Balloon, in a few weeks, and you can stream "PRPL" now - it's a dialed-down ballad that shows off Felicia Douglass's sublime vocals and the rest of the band's ambitious experiments with rhythm and minimalism. You can pick up the album in a record store starting March 4.
