MP3: New David Lynch - "Crazy Clown Time"

Because of course he did, reigning emperor of hipster nightmares David Lynch made a record called Crazy Clown Time, and the title track, as you might expect, sounds like all the demons in Canadian tuxedos, all the upward camera angles, all the teenagers with dark secrets – in short, all the things that scared the shit out of you – in his 90s TV series Twin Peaks distilled into seven terrifying and compellingly repetitive minutes.

Lynch borrows the scary-sexy wandering bassline from Angelo Badalamenti’s“The Pink Room” (part of the score for Lynch’s full-length Twin Peaks film, “Fire, Walk With Me”), throws on extra backwards guitar, and tells his listener exactly what “Crazy Clown Time” is, like a kid giving a confession to police or a Neil Young record you put on the wrong speed by accident. Take a listen.
