Because of course he did, The Streets’ Mike Skinner recruited Rob Harvey of now-defunct British alt-rockers The Music and together, under the inscrutable title Scrooge and Marley (as in Ebenezer and Bob?), they churned out a charmingly adult-contemporary Christmas song, “I Don’t Want It To Be Me.” Except it’s not really about Christmas – it’s about the holiday season’s high frequency of domestic disputes.
At first glance this sounds like a good time – Mike Skinner, he of excellent beats! Rob Harvey, he of sensuous voice! Unique and interesting subject matter! – and then you get into the jingle bells and glittery snowfall sounds. Alas, if you’re looking for something thematic to provide some variation to your Christmas playlist, this might not be it. But if you’re looking for a song to sandwich between some caroling classics, “I Don’t Want It To Be Me” is probably right up your alley.
