MP3: MNDR – “Caligula (The Cold Mix)”

MNDR — apparently pronounced like "mander" — is Northern California singer Amanda Warner and electronic musician Peter Wade; together they’ve been making super-catchy electro-pop in New York for over a year. If you recall, MNDR was a key component of Mark Ronson's infectious "Bang Bang Bang" single, and we've also highlighted MNDR's stunning "I Go Away" track earlier this year. “Caligula (The Cold Mix)” is their latest offering –- the original appeared this July on a 12-inch but never made it to the internet.

The “cold mix” is cold indeed – Warner’s voice is distant, almost robotic, layered on top of itself and irresistible synth beats and drum machine. All in all, it’s the best four and a half minute tribute to a promiscuous Roman emperor in recent memory. After all, if the real Caligula lived today, what would he be more into than clubby electro-funk?
